I am a year under 16, and I am never really obnoxious on a mic. Of course, there is rarely any time that I use it unless my friends are over and we decide to play with peoples' heads.

And that is only on MW2.

This is why I only play on 18+ age servers. My patience with the younger gamers ran out about a year ago.

Depends. I know tons of kids on X-Box Live who are respectful and mature...

but I also know guys in their 20's who act like bratty children on a playground. In fact, I'd say I've encountered more disrespectful adults than kids.

Set a limit at age 17. I know way too many spazzy kids from age 16 down who don't deserve to broadcast their loud and often irrelevant thoughts.

That's awfully unfair of you to say. While most little kids are annoying, most adults are, too.Take a look at any MW2 or Halo game, and you're going to find immature, vulgar, idiots of all shapes and sizes. It has little to do with age anymore, grown men still act like overly competitive children in online games, so there's not much point in just attacking the children, especially by calling them "midgets," which is pretty immature in itself.

I like kids alot. I was one myself a long time ago far, dar away. BUT I don't think they need to be playing Halo 3 with the big boys and girls. 12-yr-old Timmy does not be needing to shooting 20-yr-old Dave in the face when he doesn't even know what the word "SLagged" means.

i've been running into this in splinter cell, where id almost rather have no talking at all then talking to someone whos voice is so high pitched its almost a dog whistle of cursing and name calling, i dont know if its the mic causing it or not but my voice has never been that high

Through hard won experience I have learned that nobody on XBL has anything to say that is worth hearing unless they have made it to my friends list. I'm sure there are quality people lumped in with the rest, but considering the sheer number of times it was asserted that I enjoy sex with men and whatnot, I'm content to simply assume that every time that little speaker icon pops up, I won't be missing out if I left my headset on the floor.

Also, I would like to point out a few things: I do not care how high or drunk you are when you play. This is not an achievment worthy of anyone's attention. Second, there are far better insults than making erronious allegations regarding my (or my mother's) sexual activities. Third, threats from a stranger on the internet arising from a game hold absolutely no weight in the minds of anyone. If these three things stopped occuring, I might actually listen to what people have to say.

When I was eleven, there weren't many games to play online. I was 14 when quakeworld launched. At the time, VOIP was a pipe dream for most (thanks to pitifully low broadband market penetration) and thus you were never subjected to such sillyness. Plus, even though I was limited to text chat, I refrained from the sillyness so many of the children partake in these days. Thus, using my own activity as a child playing games as a benchmark, I feel I'm perfectly within my rights to not listen to such people unless they prove they are worthy of my attention. If they don't care enough to do so, then I can't be bothered to listen.

Kids are no more annoying than other people who chat non-stop in online games. They tend to behave better on the whole than your typical "adult gamer" who is non-stop throwing cusswords over the mike.

Thank god for mute buttons in games that support them though.

No matter how many annoying kids are using a mic, a total age restriction is just not fair, there will always be some decent kids online, and they should not be punished because of the "Unsilent majority bigmouths". Mute button solves the screaming kid issue for me anyway.
