I'll vote for the latter.Angerwing said:A really common occurrence I've noticed here on the Escapist is people complaining about how much they suck. Are self esteem issues something inherent amongst nerds/gamers, or do we just have an over-representation of angsty teens?
I think it's because of the high percentage of teenagers here. I think a recent poll put the amount of under 19 year olds well over 50%.Generic Gamer said:Nah, I'm happy with my life, life's good.
But yeah, whole lotta wangst on here. You either get used to it or leave I guess.
Oh lord, you just reminded me of the huge amount of wangst in that book, it was so sweet when he got put in his place like that.Generic Gamer said:Oh wow, I was sure that if I got a reply it'd be a flame!Outright Villainy said:I think it's because of the high percentage of teenagers here. Still bloody annoying though.
Yeah, I think in almost every case it is a teen angst thing. I think that quote from the fifth Harry Potter book summed it up well (so sue me, nerd here!)
"You know, this is precisely why I loathed being a teacher! Young people are so infernally convinced that they are absolutely right about everything. Has it not occurred to you, my poor puffed-up popinjay that there might be an excellent reason why the headmaster of Hogwarts is not confiding every tiny detail of his plans to you? Have you never paused, while feeling hard-done-by, to note that following Dumbledore's orders has never yet lead you into harm? No. No, like all young people, you are quite sure that you alone feel and think, you alone recognise danger, you alone are the only one clever enough to realise what the Dark Lord may be planning..."
Never thought I'd say this, but epic Harry Potter reference"You know, this is precisely why I loathed being a teacher! Oh fucking hell, I laughed pretty hard at that. Well done sir!Generic Gamer said:"Harry, would you like some coffee and a round of toas-"Outright Villainy said:Oh lord, you just reminded me of the huge amount of wangst in that book, it was so sweet when he got put in his place like that.
I think Rowling broke her caps lock or something and just ran with it...
"YOU WEREN'T THERE! I HAVE SEEN THE FACE OF DEATH!!!"
I got over a less serious case of that by realzing that people don't care. There caught up in their own lifes to much to.D Bones said:I have a HORRIBLE self-esteem. Absolutely life-altering. It sucks really bad. I gotta take pills and shit and it's still bad.
I feel like everyone is watching me in public and judging every thing that I do. It's no fun, so I stay at home a lot of the time.
