The solution is cynicism. If everything and everyone sucks, then it's a lot easier to think highly of yourself.

I think my avatar sums up my thoughts ("Why yes, I am awesome" if it's too small to read). I have the opposite problem; My sense of self-worth is so high it's stratospheric.

I know I have flaws but I just don't dwell on them, they're only as big of a problem as you let them become, and if you respect yourself then it makes it more likely that others will reciprocate it.

I lost my self esteem and got depressed really bad since (soon year ago) I lost my ability to draw, write and play percussion to a nerve problem on my right hand that now threatens my ability to play games now. I been in line for pscylogicial help for 8 months and I been trough 2 specialist doctors.

And for short note. I received several awards and stipends for my Art and I have been steaming off my feelings with it since I was 3 and been in private-artschool since I was 4.
I played percussion for 3 years in 6 months I went to B-level orchestra and in 6 months from there I was on A level orchestra. Now I am practicing to play something else.

Call me angsty whining teen and Ill bash your face in with my Mini-laptop that I am fully reliant now in school.

I hide all this behind hard shell cover that makes me look like strong determinded person who's master in hes class. And all I am half worthless cripple.

At least I have reason to say I suck at something. That Is why I tell other people too feel better.

But I think many people think they are bad even they are having bretty good standing in things.

P.S Sorry for the personal rant.

I dunno, I don't think that highly of myself, but I'm happy. Good body, average looks, and I'm doing well at school, so I'm satisfied.

+ I just got a puppy, which makes me feel even better.

A really common occurrence I've noticed here on the Escapist is people complaining about how much they suck. Are self esteem issues something inherent amongst nerds/gamers, or do we just have an over-representation of angsty teens?

Anyway, I was wondering about the flipside of this. The Escapees who think that they're actually awesome.

So Escapist, do you think you are awesome? And why?
I'm awesome. Just Cause. 2.

There is no problem that a sufficiently inflated ego will not neatly allow you to ignore! Anyone who has read enough of my writing to generate a mental image of me will tell you that crippling self-esteem issues are not personality characteristics that I evince.

To put it lightly, I am well aware of just how inherently awesome I am (because I decided that I was, whee!).

Yeah...

Calumon: Ummm... No, should I?
Because I'm sleepy and tired, I'm quoting what seems to be the exact same story I had with my self esteem issues.
Wow, wouldn't have guessed you also took anti depressants!
I can never imagine you guys as low shelf esteem people. I mean you're always so cheerful(well at least Calumon is).

Yep. I'm not sure why, when I was living full-time in England and certainly through a lot of my teens, I was angsty and had the rudimentary self esteem issues. But now, hell, I don't think I'm awesome, I know I am! It may be that a different country, change of scenery, the fact that I'm in the best shape I can possibly be and am absolutely living the dream but nowadays I can look in the mirror and love what I see.

...and I'm genuinely not even arrogant to talk to. So FML? Fuck no!

I used to, then I just thought, 'what's the point?' and seemed to numb myself against it. Other people might not like the way I look, but it's not their choice.
And I'm the 'ugly friend' but still managed to get a boyfriend. So yeah, it's not all that bad.

I don't really worry about it. I used to have really low self esteem but I kind of grew out of it. Ah, being an awkward teen...

I used to have very low self-esteem. It's still not that great now but much better than it used to be.

Also I'm awesome because I think more long-term than most.

Well... I adopted Calumon from the cold streets of Birmingham around the time they were working. I actually made a few threads talking about my anti depressants, one when I had my Crisis Core avatar (If you remember that you memory is unbelievable) and another in which apparently I was acting normally when I thought my anti depressants were to blame.

NO! They weren't, and while I'm glad I'm off them and would recommend that no-one takes them unless they see a psychiatrist and after 3 separate 1 hour long sessions he gives you a note saying "Give this to some person in some shop to get some happy pills." Then, and ONLY then should you take them.

Calumon: I have a better cure! Ratchet and Clank, Anime and HUGS! ^^
