Civilization 5 is pretty damm exciting for me.
Me also! I got civ:Rev from a Sam's club clearence for like 10 bucks and I still play that game but it always felt a little shallow because I remebered playing civ3 with my friend and the fact that is a a console adaptation always made me feel a little jipped. (I always play it when I want a quick easy game of civ though). So I looked around for the newest civ and I got the one with every expansion pack in it. Awesome game, I might even play it when I'm done here. So a couple months after I got the complete civ 4 I see a civ 5 preview in GI. That got me really excited. I'm a little sceptical about the street fighter esque leader vs leader battle things but I don't think theyll be required if you don't want to do them.

Another game I got excited about was Fallout 3. It lived up to it's expectations for me but I can't wait for New Vegas since I always thought the first two were better games and New Vegas is being made by the same people for the most part.

The last game I was super excited for was Pokemon SoulSilver. Before that it was Resistance 2.

Apart from those two games, I haven't been truly excited for a game. Those are also pretty much the only games I've gotten on release day.

Bioshock 2. And it was good. Not as good as the original, but I still loved it.
Now I'm waiting for the new Fallout. Never heard of the series before but bought it because I loved Oblivion and I dig post-nuclear stuff, so yes, I bought it.

Gears of War 3, Halo Reach, and Fable 3 are games that I am really excited about this year...I've enjoyed every game in their respective series so far and at least for the first two these will (maybe) be the final installments in their series so I can't wait to see what happens.

No. I don't get excited for games ever since they released Spore.

Yeah...I think it has to do with age or something...

I haven't really been that excited for a game for a while. Probably too much exposure

There've been four games I've been extremely hyped over; to the point where I watched a vairety of videos on them, researched all minor details, read any articles and counted down the days after pre-ordering months in advance - informing everyone how amazing those games would be:

They are:

. Fable II
. Modern Warfare 2
. Gears of War 2
. Final Fantasy XIII

Fable II was a major disappointment, thought not in itself a bad game - my expectations were set sky high. Modern Warfare 2 was even worse just because it actually was a bad game...someone on my Xbox Live friends list is still slightly annoyed at how greatly I hyped this game to them - eventually the hype I built made them buy it on release day only to be as disappointed as I was.

However both Gears and Final Fantasy in some way exceeded my expectations; maybe because I attempted not to get as hyped over them, because I was so hyped for Fable II (and Gears was released a few weeks later), and by the time FFXIII was released I'd learnt my lesson.

I know I was very excited about playing Assassin's Creed II and Halo 3: ODST
Modern Warefare 2 umm kinda but not super much because I was getting my butt kicked by my friends in CoD4
Borderlands only cuz I was getting it free to review for the school paper
but other than that, or since the end of 09 I mean, I've been too busy and preoccupied really...

I got OBSESSED with Mass Effect 2. Funny, how I thought that Mass Effect 1 was only a pretty good game, not amazing, but pretty good. But yeah, I got obsessed. I followed everything about it, I preordered the collectors edition for 100 dollars(Though I used gift cards from birthday and ended up paying only 20 bucks), and I counted down the days. I even told my mom to call me when it arrived.

Usually, my obsessions don't work out so well, since I set my expections way too high. But I have to say, Mass Effect 2 actually met, and EXCEEDED, my expectations. One of my favorite games of all time.
Same, apart from the collector's edition thing, money still being an issue. But I pre-ordered it as soon as I could, and ran down to the shop between lectures to pick it up. I tried replaying the 1st one though, and realised that the gameplay didn't absorb me at all - it was pretty much entirely the story, and attached sense of scale that had me obsessing. And yes, expectations exceeded after massive excitement!

Also, Arkham Asylum. I was excited, but ultimately prepared to be let down in some way or other, adaptations between 2 mediums traditionally not being brilliant. But I started playing that, and was reminded several hours later that I should probably eat something at some point during the day. Then I discovered the challenge maps!
I really, really liked Arkham Asylum...

EDIT: Oh, and Pokemon Soul Silver, combining massive nostalgia with enormously improved gameplay mechanics. It made me so happy when I heard about it, I regressed to the emotional state of my 10 year old self for the following 3 days. The fact that I slept in when it was delivered to me a day early by mistake really pissed me off.

Upcoming games for which I'm a little over-excited: Halo Reach, Gears of War 3, and Mass effect 3. Oh, and Super Scribblenauts.(Loved the first, but hadn't hyped too much beforehand. Now there's a new one coming, with adjectives, and a control system that actually works!)

Im currently really excited about Demon's Souls, i decided to wait for european release rather than importing.

I was amazingly excited about Aion, i played it for a couple months in which time my love of the game never died but my belief that it could keep me interested when i hit 50 waned.

Funny story about my first time ever playing Aion actually:

I was sat on an Aion forum counting down to closed beta time and someone posted a thread with a video about some guy electrocuting himself on power cables, i being the funny funny man i am decide to edit a freeze frame of that video with a little RPG humor.

Anyway, about an hour later the game is finally out for closed beta and i rush to log into the game.
I get in and i start building my character when 5 minutes later when my character is finished and i hit create.. my power supply explodes.

I still believe that was some kind of divine retribution.

Was pretty massively hyped for Red Dead Redemption lately, asides from the various glitches, I haven't been disappointed. =)
