Red Dead Redemption - Splinter Cell Conviction - Left 4 Dead 2. I enjoyed all these titles beyond what you can imagine

No. Not anymore. Been disappointed a few too many times. You get all hyped up about some upcoming release and then it turns out to be just another game. Or it just vanishes into the aether and never gets released. Or it turns out to be an unmitigated turd.

No, the proof of the pudding in is the eating. These days the pure childlike glee comes when I'm playing the game.

And that suits me just fine.

Once in a great while, I'll run across a game which actually seems to be doing something reasonably differently and cool. Like running across Okami for the first time.

Aside from that, for the vast majority of games, nah. Shallow, inferior clones. This is what happens when game creation becomes more of a trade than a craft.

Pokemon Heart Gold, I got it today and it's awesome! Hehe, I've got loadsa stuff now thanks to going out for a run this afternoon racking up over 1000 Watts :p.

However, it may be in part due to great nostalgic value that I was excited.

Depends on the game. Don't get as excited as I used to get when I was younger but yeah a little bit of me does. Looking forward to new vegas a lot at the moment, and the final gears of war game. I prefer to think I have more realistic expectations these days. Well, most of the time anyway :)

I can't wait for war for cybertron, but that's mainly for nostalgia though

when i was a kid i got obsessed with WWF No Mercy on N64, opening it up on christmas day was such a great feeling for me, i played it with my brothers constantly. THe closest to that I've been since then was probably guitar hero 2 when that first came out. I don't get that excited about games any more

I remember being SOOOO excited for Wind Waker. I warmed up by playing the Director's Cut of Ocarina of Time (the cows in Jabu Jabu still give me nightmares). The game was great, but it didn't live up to the insane hype.

Nowadays I'm only super mega-excited about new Bethesda games- and I see I'm not the only one here! Oblivion was a bit of a letdown because it dumbed the game down so much since Morrowind, but I've put in my couple hundred hours and replayed it using OOO's mod. Fallout 3 was actually better than Oblivion IMO, so I'm MEGATON EXCITED about New Vegas.

Oh, and I can't ******* wait until the new Elder Scrolls 5 comes out!!!

I used to be, but not anymore. Hype ruins everything. No game that comes out will be the perfect gold-encrusted jewel of Arabia that the PR says it will, and there's only disappointment.
What I do now is completely ignore initial game reviews, I don't buy any gaming magazines and if a game grabs my attention I'll do some research on it and buy it pre-owned.
Except maybe for Pokemon Black and White. But only that!

I'll get excited for a new game when a new one actually comes out.

I'm getting tired of the same rinse and repeat titles that flood the market. How many FPS/RTS/(J)RPG/Adventure/Action/Racing titles can you play before you realize it's all the same six titles recycled and retold by a new developer? I hate that statement "Like [Insert famous title here] but different."

Yes, before you say it, there are great games out there. There are a lot of games that are complete rip-offs of other titles that are done so well you're willing to over look the fact that it's really just a revamp of Serious Sam or something. I'm not excited for it, I just decide to play this one over that one because I like the graphics or whatever.

I'd really like to see a new title, a new type of game that does things differently. Not just a revamp of an existing genre, but one that forces a new genre to be considered. When that happens, I'll get excited again.

Usually, my obsessions don't work out so well, since I set my expections way too high. But I have to say, Mass Effect 2 actually met, and EXCEEDED, my expectations. One of my favorite games of all time.
I'm not saying it's a bad game, and I am a fan-boy of the series... But Mass Effect 2 seemed phenomenally dumbed-down in comparison to it's predecessor.

I'm talking about mega-uber-super excited for something. Just like you were in your childhood days. Is there any new games out there you were just DYING to play.
Not really. The industry has certainly fallen into the mainstream niche and is pretty far entrenched in franchised releases and safe gameplay bets revolving around third person action, first person shooting, or some equally hackneyed combination of the set without a shred of genuine ingenuity to justify it's status as a supposedly new game.

Halo, God of War, Zelda, it's all the same old mix feeding on the low expectations of fanboys. It's turned what used to be good and fun into a hardcore, casual, or some equally insipidly marketed spin that just serves as a distraction from, rather than an exposition of, this little thing we call life.

That being said, there is one exception: Deus Ex Human Revolution. It's the only game this generation to have any sort of meaningful point behind it about an issue that will probably end as the biggest our species has ever faced. It's the only thing that I can hold up as a step in the right direction for the industry, and the only thing, apart from a few time wasters (fable 3, mechwarrior) that I'm showing any actual interest for.

Dead Space 2. It's going to be great! Otherwise, Tenchu 2. Loved the original, and the sequel certainly did not disappoint! Oh, and all of the Metal Gear games.

Oh, absolutely. Just in the past few months, two stirling examples came up--God of War 3 and Super Mario Galaxy 2. Before that was Dragon Age: Origins, and all three of those titles have met or exceeded my expectations. SMG2 blew my expectations out of the water and sailed on to be even more awesome than the first. Way back when, Super Smash Bros Brawl had my hopes all kinds of in a twist, and that was worth it as well. And with Nintendo listing a working title new Zelda to hit shelves in Japan late this year, I am trying not to get too excited for it once a release date for North America is announced, but that's not exactly possible, as I just lit up a bit over mentioning it.

I was insanely hyped for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Now, being a PC gamer you might understand what eventually happened...
