My mom is terrible at most games, but one thing I can't figure out is how she got so good at pokemon pinball. She bought it for my brother and me, and we had fun with it for a while, and when we stopped playing, she picked it up, and managed to hit one point short of a trillion. She now sits very resolutely at the top of the score board for Sapphire.
My mom got obsessed with pokemon pinball as well, only it was the original title. The scoring system must be different, though, because I've played a single game for six hours straight and got five billion points. Can you save a game, or something with the new ones?

Also, my mom's introduction to video games was Banjo Kazooe for the N64. We were about halfway through and she wanted to play, so we gave her the controller, told her about the basic controls, then promptly got her to jump into a pit of lava. We spent another five minutes laughing at that. While most people would be turned away from games because of this, she started a new file and ended up being the first person in our house to beat the game, and at 2 am no less.
Yeah, not having fake buttons seems like it would help a lot in evolution.

Do you still have to travel to different locations?
Now she usually sticks to puzzle games, but she is crazy good at them.
The new one allows you to save your game. It took her quite a while to max out the score.
Personally, I think that takes some of the fun out of getting a high score, but I have reloaded plenty of games when something went bad, so I'm not the best person to criticize that.

Just wondering, did you complete the pokedex?
I think I was a bit unclear. The new one just lets you save, turn off the game, and come back to it. It doesn't let you keep separate files. In answer to your question, yes, we did complete it.
Never mind, then. You could do that with the original as well.

You're better than me though, because I only got half way there. Have you ever played the original one? I would like to know if it seems easier or harder, and I haven't played any of the sequels.
I played the old one after getting pretty good at the new one, and the old one is definitely harder.
How so? I know getting to different places was crazy hard, and that the unsymetrical red field was harder than the blue field, but was there anything that stood out to you?
The thing that sticks out in my mind is evolution. It's a good way to rack up points, and your pokemon doesn't get tired in the new one, and that really made it frustrating in the old one.

both my parents do still, ( remember they are grand parents now) Mother sticks largely with NES, or my brothers old 2600...though when she moves out here to be closer to my boys, I'm forcing her ass onto the 360 for ME..

My father plays the newer systems, mostly Madden, NCAA, and the likes.

My mum simply can't play games. She is terrible at them, and because she knows it, the only time she touches a console is when it needs to be moved.

My dad used to be a hardcore gamer, he was ace and I adored him...now...he's just not into them any more.

Both my parents used to play games. That's how I got started. We used to play Atari and eventually NES, (Mario, Wizards & Warriors). They both got less interested right before the SNES era, though my Mom does have a Wii now, and my Dad has always played sports games with me.

Hrm... my mum used to play games back when we first got a PC (ours is a family that has never owned consoles). She enjoyed them for quite a long time, we played Commander Keen, Alladin and the like together.

Then, came along Civ 2. That game got her addicted to the point that she pretty much spent a week straight playing it, before finally realising just how much time she has wasted. Since then she's rarely ever played any games. She does enjoy watching them sometimes - if she finds the artistic direction good enough - now that I have a PS3, she has been on occasion coerced into a round or two of Little Big Planet or Guitar Hero 4.

my mom played Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past and beat it. She's mostly into Civ4 and Fire Emblem... she doesn't claim to be good at either. But she's beaten them both at least a dozen times.

My dad thinks the same. My mum isn't so anti-games, but she doesn't like to play them. I got her so far to try WoW though, it was quite the trainwreck to watch, not to mention funny. She got as far as level 2 before giving up, too many things to keep track off according to her, on level 2...hehe. Her mind would've blown then if I asked her to raidlead, or play EVE Online.
But even though my dad hates games, he used to play the RTS Netstorm: Islands at War with me when I was 12 or something. If I failed a level he tried it, and the other way around. If I passed an uber difficult level I called him at work to explain what I did. Quite fun times. A couple of years later I let him try Rise of Nations, he freaked out due to (as my mum) the many things he had to keep track off. And yet they both call games childish, simple little toys...

Mom: Am i the bug?
Me: No, your the human.
Mom: How do i turn?
Me: Use the analog stick.
Mom: I am!
Me: The other one.
Mom: I have to use two?! *sets down controller and walks away*
This pretty much describes my mother's attempts at most games. Anything arcade-y and simple though is good for her though (Tetris, Bejeweled etc).

I recently discovered that she does not support the introduction of an R 18 rating of video games. I worry about her sometimes.

My dad just sees video games as ridiculous. If you have leisure time, he thinks you should spend it reading a non-fiction book, or if you must a novel.

My mother was able to play God of War, and was actually quite good at it.

Actually, that's a lie. My Mom is more of a casual gamer. She and my Dad are both fans of BigFishGames's distribution network. its mostly puzzle games, but she can't hold a controller to save her life.

Oh well. I still love her, regardless.

I've played with a couple of gamer mums over the years I spent on WoW but never in an fps. I've vsed my mate's 65 year old grandfather at CoD4 though. I play the game competitively and he wiped the floor with me. I guess going to Vietnam can help you play FPS games or he just naturally had the reflexes of a mongoose. The old bast*rd. :p

at least your parent's don't like them because there is 'too many things to keep of' whereas my mum thinks that they cause CHILDREN (not people) to be stuck inside when they should be outside playing, then dies the whole 'i never had that growing up' argument.

My mum plays on the Wii occasionally and has been known to attempt Guitar Hero. She also plays Peggle quite a bit.

Ahh, my grandma used to play Tony Hawks Pro Skater, Metroid Prime, Super Mario Sunshine and the rest of my Gamecube libary. However, she completely sucked at all of them, usually lasting about 5 seconds.

my mom used to play half life, she sometimes plays diablo 2 and is planning on playing diablo 3, Oblivion, she plays maplestory, played fable 2, plays the whole slew of "casual games." So why yes, she does play video games.
