It's not offensive to love your country. If they made a British, Russian or other version it wouldn't be bothersome.
But they have kind of...Captain Britain, Colossus,etc... Sure they aren't as big, well Captain Britain is kinda big, but eh....

As an American myself, I think it looks dope.

He is Captain America so I can see why some people wouldn't be interested.

Having said that if they make a Captain Britain or Union Jack movie I'd see it.

I think most people outside of the USA don't really care about American comic book characters.
AFAIK most Europeans were raised on Franco-Belgian comics. (Asterix, Lucky Luke, Tintin)
If by 'European' you mean France and Belgium.
I'm from Germany and I've got most Asterix and Lucky Luke books and my older brother has a large collection of Tintin books. No kid from my generation ever read a Batman or Spiderman comic.
The Asterix books have been translated into 100 languages, 9 animated movies and 4 live action movies... they are pretty popular over here.

What's the problem?

Americans like James Bond even though he fights for "Queen and Country".

Some people really have nothing but prejudiced hate for America, but those guys are pathetic losers.
And everyone loves Tony Stark, he fights for the US and is very American. Every single one of my friends absolutely loves him, me included.

You'll find that most people don't have any kind of prejudice about Americans. We just get sick of the 'in yo face' patriotism that some films/comics/series, whatever, throw around.

Cap A is colossal dick. He has 0 personality beyond "I must fight for my country. GOD FUCKING BLESS AMERICA... FUCK YEA!"

I won't be watching it because I don't think I could stomach the patriotism.

But then Hugo Weaving may convince me otherwise.... I'll wait.

Also this.
Wut.

Iron Man is the patriotic 'AMERICA FUCK YEAH' character, Cap' on the other has fought against the US gov't on multiple occasions. He stands for the ideal US, not the one we live in. He goes on rants about how corrupt our government is, in one of the most recent crisis-crossover (Civil War) he was a fugitive and was eventually arrested.

Please stop making yourself look like an ass.
You see, I've been suspended for less than that... much less.

I'm sure the mods here just pick who they want to suspend out of a hat.

Anyway. The point I was making was nothing to do with the government. I never said Cap loves the government did I? Are you going to argue that he isn't overly patriotic? Because his costume, mannerism and ideology would like a word with you.

Such a patriotic uniform.

He is patriotic, but not in the flag-waving jingoistic sense. He has a love for certain American ideals. He believes in freedom. Is that a solely American idea?

You say you love Iron Man, when he embodies the: "I must fight for my country. GOD FUCKING BLESS AMERICA... FUCK YEA!"

Whereas Cap' embodies the: "I must fight for freedom, everyone's freedom!"

Onserve Captain Britian.

I know someone has almost undoubtedly send you a pic of him already, but what the hell, here's another.

Admittedly his costume is pretty pimp, but I still don't care for him, just like I don't care for Captain America.

I never really liked the character for whatever reason, but I am looking forward to the movie. The idea of a Hero who isn't really super powered, just the absolute height of mundane human ability in nigh every way, is very interesting. I'm American, but really, I don't think I would be offended even if I were not. Mainly because Captain America is supposed to embody the ideals of America, and say what you will about the execution (I do all the time), the ideals are wonderful.

Show me a super hero movie embodying the plucky determination of the Brits, or the Nobel sacrifice of the Russians and I would be almost as enthusiastic. Yes, almost, there is a bit of appeal in the patriotism. It's fine for me to be proud of my country, because Ill criticize it the second I need to, and I think no less of any other country because of it.

I think the movie looks pretty good. I'm an avid comic book reader (especially Marvel) and I still don't care about Captain America as a character. I know he's like iconic and such but I really just don't care that much about him as a character overall. He's not bad, but there are so many more I care about. I will definitely see this movie. I think it'll meet up with Iron Man (another character I don't care for.) There was something missing in Thor for me. Was a good movie, I won't deny but something just wasn't there.

I usually look forward to super hero movies but I really don't give a crap about this one for whatever reason.

I might go see it if it gets really good reviews, maybe.

Clearly you hate America and just wish to disguise your little rant.

oka, I'm joking, I saw the edit. Honestly, I'm American and i'm not even bothered by it. I was never big into captain America, but probably cause my grandfather was a WW2 vet and when he told me his war heroics, I just knew captain America was never going to live up.

But eh, looks like an alright summer flick I suppose. and its just nice to see something thats not T3:DotM being advertised.

I care about Cap, not as an American though. I care because he's one of the Avengers, and he's also an interesting hero in his own right.
Also also, once again, it builds up to the Avengers. So, squee on that!!!

LOL

Misinformation much.

That's not Captain America. Captain America is the identity. Not the person beneath it. That image is of Steve Rogers as Nomad.

is Captain America.... Yes, now you mention it. Not overly patriotic in the slightest. Not enough Eagle.

Stark is really more of a I enjoy this country, I get to be a dick here because I'm rich. I surprisingly respect that honesty.

Cap A may realistic represent what America aspires to be. But the way it's presented has everyone else thinking that it's the way America sees itself. That's what is grating.
LOL

Putting the cart before the horse much.

The fact is, Cap has always been the temperamental freedom-loving hippie he remains to this day. What, because he changes his name and puts on a different costume, all of a sudden, his personality is going to change?

Kinda funny how all you have to do is slap an American flag on something and all of a sudden it's "patriotic".

Any idiot who takes the time to read up on the source material (or fuck, just watch the movies) understands that Tony Stark is the stalwart hero of capitalism, eagerly stomping out insurgents through the power of individualism and other Ayn Randian crap.

Also, Steve Rogers is the version being played in the movies, so your argument's fucked there too.

I never cared for him. Hit outfit looks dumb and that shield is somehow a boomerang.

I remember the first Captain America movie I saw, boy did he suck. Like the freakin' President he's rescuing had to save him. ~.~

I think the source material does not have a lot of potential, but it can be made into a good movie, the question is whether it was turned into one or not.

What also bugs me about the trailer's is Hugo Weaving's voice, or the lack thereof. In the three trailers so far we only heard one line "Captain, we are much alike", and to me it sounds as if they forced a German accent onto Weaving's awesome voice, which would be a huge mistake by the director, and where such mistakes can be found, there are others surely hiding.
