So I am from the UK (England if you want to be picky) and have seen a few of the Captain America trailers now and I find myself not really giving a crap. Iron man was good. hulk remake was ok. Thor was really good but Captain America do not care. maybe it is because it IS Captain America and like I have said i am not from America and maybe the whole reason alot of people like him is because of the whole America thing.

Maybe its because most WW2 movies to come out of hollywood are just "and then America came and won all by themselves. yay America!!" and I hate that.

For the record this IS NOT a rant about America or WW2 i am well aware that without them Britain could not have lasted much longer than we did and i know alot of American's died as well.

Anyway what do you guys think. About Captain America not the war.

Edit: some people seem to have Misunderstood me. I am NOT saying that i hate Captain America. I do not hate him because he is American. I do not hate him full stop! I am simply indifferent, the trailers have looked medioca to me (that is just my opinion) and wanted to know if it was just me who did not care or if it was a cutural thing. Again this is not random America hate. i have nothing against Americans. Ok. now can people please stop saying that i hate the damn thing purly because he is American. I just asked if being american was a part of the appeal of Captin America. if I offended anyone a i am sorry. If i did not make myslef clear then i am sorry. OK!!!!

I haven't seen that much of it, but to me a superhero movie is a superhero movie. I mean, of course there are differences, but I don't really care that the guy is from and a symbol of America. Actually, a lot of other superheroes are too, but they're ever so slightly less obvious about it. From what I've seen, I think I'll enjoy it.

I'm Dutch by the way.

It's not offensive to love your country. If they made a British, Russian or other version it wouldn't be bothersome.

I'm going to see it because it's got an interesting aesthetic, a likable star (F4 movies were terrible, but Chris Evans himself isn't a bad actor), an incredible villain (seriously, has Hugo Weaving ever not been awesome?), and a good director. I am an American so that may make my points a bit harder to swallow in context, but with the cast and crew they have assembled I wouldn't be an iota less excited if it were a Union Jack movie.

What's this Captain America you speak of?

I have little patience for American comic/superhero culture in general. I loved Iron Man and Batman, but that's about it. There's way too much crap floating around for me to get really interested in superhero movies.

I am Canadian and am looking forward to the Captain America movie. Mostly because it is the next part of the Avengers build-up which has gone really well so far, and I hope the quality of the films continues. But also because Captain America represents the American ideal, and whatever I might feel about the US government, or foreign/trade policy, or the nation on a day to day basis, that ideal is noble and an inspiration to the world.

Let's be honest, how many World War II movies from Hollywood or Britain come right out and say, "without the Soviet Union, the Nazis probably would have won"?

I mean, I also love James Bond, who represents a type of British ideal, and I can do so without dwelling on the history of British imperialism. This isn't much different from that.

I'm American as well and I'd have to agree, the movie doesn't hold much appeal to me. I have no problem with the superhero himself, but the movie just doesn't really interest me. I don't mind that he's American (obviously) but the fact that he is labeled as the "American superhero" wouldn't make me like him more than Captain Britain or whatever.

The shield is pretty cool though.

Captain America is not exactly my favourite super hero, but I have nothing against him either.
So while I'm not as excited for this movie as I was for, say, Thor or First Class, I will still definitely go see it. Because it is Marvel.

I think most people outside of the USA don't really care about American comic book characters.
AFAIK most Europeans were raised on Franco-Belgian comics. (Asterix, Lucky Luke, Tintin)

I'm British, and I'm kinda looking forward to it, just because it looks like a decent superhero movie. Also the fact that a lot (well, nearly all) of the city scenes were shot in Manchester, and having visited the set on a day off from Uni, I'd like to see it on screen.

Feh, nationalist icons never really gain much popularity outside their host country. That's not the point of them if you think about it. Just hope they don't do Captain Britain and Captain Canada.

Because frankly, that would be a level of patronising that simply isn't done any more.

That said, however, from the trailers it does actually look like it might be one of the better recent superhero flicks.

I am from the USA, and I personally never really cared that much about Captain America as a character. I don't really know him all that well either, just never got into him that much. He's low on my list of favorite Avengers. But I still want to see the movie though. Just because he's not my favorite, doesn't mean I wont still enjoy it.

Captain America is the worst superhero ever, not because of the America thing but because he is fucking useless. He is just a man with a shield, other superhero's have either powers or technology. He has neither

I just dont get why people just don't shoot him yes he has a shield but it only protects his body and half the time hes busy throwing it, not to mention hes wearing bright blue white and red in a war zone with a huge target shield saying please shoot at me

sorry I just have a hard time taking him seriously

They do have a Captain Britain.

OT: The movie may be good, but I've never really been interested in Captain America.

I've actually always liked the character (Canadian, by the way), but I can definitely understand why people from other countries may not, if they think that is how American see themselves. I'd say it's more of an ideal, what Americans aspire to be...but they're actually like Tony Stark, cocky, drunk, thinks he's important, and rich enough that he makes himself important.

I'm British and I actually quite like modern Captain America. Old Captain America was all about American exceptionalism hands-down, no questions patriotism. Modern Captain America is more about standing up for the American ideal of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" and falls out with the US Government at least in some stories.

Its how the character is treated, he doesn't have to be a tool of the US government and sometimes he's a little more interesting than that. Its a bit similar to Superman who gets misinterpreted by people who don't know the character very well.
