i'm located in the US, and i have no interest in this captain america. i don't know anything about him, but i don't care for patriots, and i care even less about super patriots, which is what it sounds like. actually kinda grossed out by the idea. i'll be avoiding the movie out of pure principle.

EDIT: from reading the post above me, i take it i'm wrong about this guy. but whatever, maybe he'd be allright if he was called something else, but his image just resonates with a foul response in my psyche.

Here's something awesome for you. Look at that picture. Now look at this video:
And thou shalt never see Agent Smith in the same light again.

Oh come on, you know that Iron Man is too busy nailing hot chicks and tinkering away with his toys rather than be some soldier for the US government.

It's not offensive to love your country. If they made a British, Russian or other version it wouldn't be bothersome.
There IS a British version

As you can see, Badass.

I couldn't care less. Not because of the American bit, just the fact it's a super hero movie. Unless it's Batman or Static(I can dream, can't I?) I don't give a monkey's.

It looks no different to me than the new X Men, Green Lantern or Thor movies and seeing as I don't have the monies, I'm not going to waste the stuff I have on something that doesn't immediately interest me.

I think i'm going to like it, for many reasons, like it looking badass, and it being about WWII,
and i kind of like the whole idea with captain amercia.

Also, i've never read, or seen anything with Cpt. America so it's also so that i can learn something about him.

Ps. i'm from Denmark

AFAIK most Europeans were raised on Franco-Belgian comics. (Asterix, Lucky Luke, Tintin)
I think that's the case with me. I was never interested in comics; I read a batman one at age 12, couldn't enjoy it or take it seriously, and after one last try with spiderman in 2007, (I think) I never read a comic again. I don't understand the appeal; it is after all essentially a more complicated picture book. I don't know anyone in England that reads comics either; it doesn't seem to have the same standing in Europe.

I'm really looking forward to it, I never was one for comics but i do like the super hero movies as of late.
The green lantern was the only let down, and even then that was pretty good. interested to see how this comes out, looks quite dark, very... watchmen esk in a sense.

My apologies, guess its just how the words are written. Nothing against you or what you wrote. Just some topics annoy me more than most and it made me rant even though it wasnt the point of your thread - and we know how america likes to rewrite history in its movies.

As for Captain America, it will be a movie that could be good, Red Skull looks awesome. Dont think its out yet so will wait for the reviews. But all i have heard is positive stuff so far. Also everyone is a happy for nazi's getting there asses kicked in a movies.
Up until WWII, the United States had a policy of isolationism and neutrality. Think Sweden. America's main interest was not fighting the German side of things, it was fighting the Japanese side of things. Which the United States continued to do for a few months after V-E Day.

I think we can both agree that neither side of the ocean teaches WWII history well enough, and tends to bias their own involvement.

I love Captain America but that's because he's a nerd that gets turned super hero. It's like a childhood fantasy made true via comics.

Not a big Captain America fan myself, but I enjoyed Thor and First class quite a bit.

Plus, I need to end the summer with a decent superhero movie after the disaster that was The Green Lantern.

And Italian! (Dylan Dog, Martin Mystere, Tex, and something that supposedly doesn't exist in America - ridiculously popular Disney comics).

Personally, Captain America is one of those aspects of US comics that I never quite got, but apparently there's a good WWII story to tell, possibly with Iron-Man-calibre production, so I'll probably go see it. Though I'm definitely not as excited about him as I was about Thor and First Class.

What's the problem?

Americans like James Bond even though he fights for "Queen and Country".

Some people really have nothing but prejudiced hate for America, but those guys are pathetic losers.

I'm British and i like captain America, and it kind of pisses me off that people that don't know anything about the comic's just dismiss him due to the the whole American thing. Seriously if the only thing putting you off this film is the main character's nationality, that's fucking stupid.

To be fair, Captain America has always been poked fun at in the Marvel comics. His love for all things American is always dialed up to 11, something all characters and villians point out and have a good laugh about. Marvel have been entirely faithful to their characters so far, so we can expect them to continue their poking in the movie.

Regardless, they made an entirely new English love interest for the Cap'n in the film. Plus, I'm pretty sure I saw a source about these guys being included in the film - including the always brilliant English sniper Pinky Pinkerton.

Well, if Captain America bothers you, you must REALLY be bothered by Superman. I mean, he does stand for Truth Justice and the American way.
Ah, now, this man speaks the truth. Captain America is often a target for jokes, but Superman is always straight faced about it. To him, America truly is a shining beacon of hope and prosperity - something which is made worse because everyone fucking agrees with him.

Comapre Superman being all over-patriotic and gushy with Captain America being silly and witty.

Well...it's Captain -America- and you're from England, so...there's your answer I guess. Besides it's much less about America and much more about the action in a movie like this, so I'd still give it a shot (no pun intended) just for that. Plus it's not about America "doing all the work" it's about one guy stomping on Nazi faces and shooting them with a .45.
