APB anyone played it yet?

The gameplay is buggy and inconsistent, and the All-Points matchmaking is shit at best. During my five hours of Action District, I was constantly thrown up against people who had rocket launchers and fully automatic weapons while I was stuck with a pea shooter and some twigs. In addition, the game crashes often, and the lag correction (since you ARE in an MMO) is non-existent.

On the plus side, the combat was decent, the car chases were wonderful, and the design aspects were absolutely top-notch.

I won't be picking it up on launch, but I will be checking it out a few months down the line.

I pre-ordered it yesterday, and it says that we have play time between the 12th and 19th June....but nothing is happening, their official site is down, and any forum talk i've seen is of no help....has anyone played it? How do i get my pre-order play time?

I've been playing it for a couple of hours now, and i like it. It's like a GTA MMO. I joined with 3 more experienced players for a few hours and we ended up in a few decent scraps. It's obvious that like guild wars there will be those who will obsess over the game and be out of the league of the rest of us casual gamers, but i like how there are clear objectives, and group based rumbles. I hope the missions are going to improve as i go up the levels, but over all i was having fun...and that's what counts isn't it?

The game is definitely better played with people on your side. It can get very hectic and chaotic... I love it. My heart races in this game, I haven't had that happen in years. But yeah, I really hope the Escapist users that's going to play this game can formulate a clan... cause I suck on my own.

APB = Real Sandbox based MMO...

i'll bite...if you want a real sandbox mmo, eve online is your only choice. the rest are like rpgs, but for 5 thousand players, not 1-8 players.

as far as i know it's both the standard 30 days subscription for the dedicated player and an x amount of game hours for the casual one. kinda confusing, but it's either one, not one or the other or both.


first article i read about it blew me away (november 2009). recently there has been a lot of stories about how shit it is. and frankly, i guess an amount of shittyness is acceptable, for the first month of an MMO.

but you guys convinced me to buy it asap, because most of you that played it said it was fun. you know, fun...what a game was ALL about back when most dev companies weren't money hungry whores. like huckleberryhound said, it's a GTA (until san andreas, not the brown stuff) style cops and robbers. don't know about you guys, but playing GTA i always thought about exactly what they're making, except the factions part which is awesome.

I usually end up with another three guys in a car tearing along the financial district on the way to a drop off, hanging out the window looking for the red names to shoot....i like ramming them with a car if they kill me haha. It's nice to join a group that know what they are doing, it's really exciting.

My only gripe would be that the chat system is too hard to use in-game. If they could just attach it to the "t" button or something, or use the guildwars system it'd be su much more useful.

Yeah, I still haven't figured how to map the controls to how I play an FPS. The C is to toggle crouch, while I'm always pressing CTRL and throwing a grenade which gives me away and I die. Again.

And I haven't had the time to chat, wanted to with some of the Enforcers kicking my butt saying Good Game and all that. Especially considering I actually nailed the guy in the head with the SCAR when he had an SMG... the only kill I got and he wiped me.

Sadly I'm on the American servers... I don't think they'll let me play on the European ones. Your red velvet fence is very nice, though.

If I can I'll probably reboot as an Enforcer. Criminal isn't my bag, way too much... maybe when I get better I'll give it a shot, but it's definitely a massacre for me. Then again, Enforcer probably won't help either.

As for my fashion, I figured that since I'm not doing so good... I might as well paint a bullseye on my back. With a dollar sign in the middle.

I'll update if I can... I sincerely doubt it though, which sucks. A lot of the guys on the Escapist that's interested in this is probably on those servers. Guess random is the way to go for now.

EVE Online was sandbox game? Strange, because with all the emptiness and void I was staring at, I didn't think it as a sandbox game, more like an interstellar game of Crysis where everything is cut out in zones.

But I digress, it is a Sandbox game, just not a very fun one for me. Everything looked like a copy/paste of everything else, that is opinion however.
