I wonder if people are aware that most mmos cost more per month than apb...
If that's the case I wish I could pay less per month on WoW if it meant listening to one ad every three hours. Heck that's motivation if anything *to* play APB personally were I into that kind of game. Not to mention from reading this it sounds like the ad is played through the headset during a loading screen so you can just take your headset off and grab a drink or something.

The only ads I hate are the animated online ones that cause any video I'm trying to watch to stutter and become unwatchable.

This would bee acceptable in a free-to-play game. Not so in a pay-to-play.

I won't be trying this.
This.

Except mine is preordered and the game is fantastic(with friends)

But RTW has lied a lot. First, no monthly fees. Now there is a monthly fee, fine I'm okay with that. but dont fucking add voice adds that will blare over my teammates in the middle of an intense game, a game i've paid 50 dollars for, and am paying 9.99 a month for. It's outrageous.

This is an EA backed game, i was hoping they would have enough money backing them so they wouldn't pull this crap.

Top this ontop of the 32-bit constraints (they purposely make the game look shitty on a 32 bit operating system, all you do is remove a few files and the constraint is lifted, meaning they threw it in there JUST for that, while they promote windows 7 62)

There are already billboards and signs all over APB advertising stuff, which im honestly fine with, seeing real products on a sign in a game is pretty cool, and it doesn't get in my way.

And people wonder why gamers pirate? It's not enough for gamers to pay for a game, then a subscription but they have to pay to get rid of ads as well? Rediculous.

This and that Verizon ad in Alan Wake are just the worst kind of in-game advertising. And this is pay to play! They want you to pay even more cash just to not be hassled by Pepsi commercials every so often. Still though, it's not like they're spamming you with ads. Once every three hours. Sure, it kills immersion (why would Pepsi be advertising on a police radio feed?), but there's worse ways to do it (Alan Wake).

Im so sick of the rage at these ads. People need to lose their sense of self-entitlement.

The payment plan, currently is:

-infinite, free social distric play
-50 hours of action district play out of the box
-you can purchase 20 more action district hours for $8
OR
-you can subscribe (like WoW) for $10/month

As for these terrible, intrusive ads that everyone hates so much:

"You will receive a short audio ad once every 3 hours. HOWEVER ads will only be heard when first entering a district.

So for example:

1) You start up the game and enter the social district.
2) You will hear a short audio ad.
3 You stay in social for 2 hours and then switch to an action district.
4) Upon entering the action district you will NOT hear an ad.
5) You play in the action district for 5 hours and do not hear any ads.
6) You exit the game.
7) You start up the game at a later time and enter a district.
8) You will hear a short audio ad. "

- a post by Toxico, the NA community officer from RTW

So in short, you will hear these ads for around 30 seconds per play session, assuming you dont switch districts every 3 hours. These things are ment to pay for the VOIP system, which you can disable and not hear the ads anyway.

This game is freaking amazing. More fun than any other MMOG I've ever played. But even RTW has to pay the bills somehow people...welcome to the real world.

They have been changing their payment conditions too much lately. The game is starting to sound like something else completely than it was announced.

The game doesn't have a monthly fee in the strict sense. Instead it lets you buy hours of playtime (which roll over I believe), so you're always getting your money's worth. (It does have a monthly fee OPTION, but why bother? There are times when you want to sleep/play other games...)

I honestly don't see the problem with this. If the VOIP is being provided by a third party it was probably one of their conditions for provision. One ad every three hours, and only when you cross zones, seems to me to be an extremely better alternative than having to pay more by default to play without the ads.

Besides, you just KNOW someone is going to invent an Adblocker mod for it eventually, so WHY ARE PEOPLE COMPLAINING?

Wait, I forgot: complaining is easier than thinking.

people complain about advertising, but honestly, is it really that big a deal? it's either that or pay extra, and i'd rather have the ads, its not like they interfere with the game if they only happen once on map change per 3 hours

I guess i'm the only one that doesn't think this is a huge hairy deal. I mean, it's underhanded, but it's not like they stole your first born children. Either ignore the ad, or pay what, 5 dollars to never hear one again?

Everyone has such a privelidged attitude these days.

At least they HAVE built in VOIP

Those devs are idiots. If you're competing with WoW, anything bad you do, even if it's just an ad every 3 hours, is going to make your loss inevitable.

But they are not competing with WoW. Since when is a third-person shooter game trying to steal RPG fans?

So they are charging to remove adverts, on a pay to play game, that is really OTT

While they aren't similar, they are both mmos, so a lot of people will still lump them together into the same genre.

Well they should pay some money to Vivox so this doesn't happpen. Problem solved :D

@Everyone who thinks people are being whiny about it. I agree with you. It's just to solve the whiners it's simple. But I don't know why people are shitting bricks about this when you can clearly shit bricks about WoW microtransactions.

If they use a 3rd party adserver then the ads can be blocked using a hosts file. If they are using rootkit-like tactics or are bypassing DNS resolution then you can block the IP range of the advertiser in your router or DMZ.

If they are using first party served ads then I wouldn't use the in-game voice chat. Just tell your party members you are deaf, thats what I do in DDO.
