This would bee acceptable in a free-to-play game. Not so in a pay-to-play.

I won't be trying this.
Agreed. I was interested in this game, but now, I think I'll just say "Fuck it".
They could have just made the fee mandatory part of the subscription and you'd never have known, but because they decided you let you choose between paying or having ads, you decide to avoid the game completely.

How does that make any sense?

but dont fucking add voice adds that will blare over my teammates in the middle of an intense game,
Except that ads can only happen when you transition from one area to another, and so can never happen during an actual gaming moment.
The Official fourms say "When joining a new zone, and after 3 hours of game play in that zone"
Uh, no they say

1) You start up the game and enter the social district.
2) You will hear a short audio ad.
3 You stay in social for 2 hours and then switch to an action district.
4) Upon entering the action district you will NOT hear an ad.
5) You play in the action district for 5 hours and do not hear any ads.
6) You exit the game.
7) You start up the game at a later time and enter a district.
8) You will hear a short audio ad.

I came into this thread totally against it, but having read opinions and actually how it's done, I really can't see any problem, it's a short ad during the loading screen, which you can just mute your headset for if you're truly offended, it NEVER gets in the way of the game, and I think their main mistake was offering people the chance to 'buy out'.

If they had just done the ads, people wouldn't have gone half as nuts. In the end, I feel they should have just taken the honest, upfront route and charged as much as they needed to turn a profit, in the monthly fee, then stripped out all adds, extras, etc.

People REALLY don't mind paying for a good game, even monthly, they just don't like being pecked at like vultures.

Not so much about being screwed, its about feeling screwed, and this feels like they're trying to squeeze every nickel and dime out, even if it works out cheaper than WOW etc.

On a side note, did they consider real ads on the car stereos? Wouldn't have been remotely immersion breaking, as car radios DO have ads, and you could have done them more often with a captive audience.
