I'm going to open your eyes to an amazing, overlooked 90's video game on the PS1 called APE ESCAPE. It..was my childhood video game, and it was brilliant. I picked it up again a few weeks ago to see if it was just nostalgia filter, and I can confirm that it is still as brilliant as it ever was. So, did any other Escapists actually play this game? If so, what did you think of it?

Oh, and if you haven't got it, GO NOW AND PURCHASE IT. There are a few copies on the interwebs I do believe. You'll need an original PS1 memory card if you want to save, though.

Fuck yeah I played it!

My favourite platformer of the PS1 era, even above Crash and Spyro.

It was the first game to use the analog sticks exclusively, I mean come on, how fucking awesome was it to run around with the left stick and control an RC car with right?

And the music? The music was awesome.

I thought everyone had. I think it was a pretty huge hit back then.

I remember back when me and my cousins would boot the game up and smash it in one sitting because we didnt have memory cards. It was amazing.

Current Gen Ape Escapse game now please.

Hell yes, I played it. Fucking amazing it was too. Also got me used to the Dualshock Analog sticks as well, which I hadn't used up until Ape Escape.

Of course I did! Along with it's sequels.

I remember the first time I played the game I was wondering why I couldn't move at all. I was so used to playing games using the D-Pad I never actually thought to use the analog sticks for about ten minutes. :/

I hope that game comes out on the PSN soon. That game was a classic.

YES
I've played both Ape escape 3 and Ape escape: Pumped & Primed. Both were amazing games though the latter I had to play a japanese version so I had literally no idea what has happening at the time. Sadly never played the original :c

That was one of the first games I got when I had a PS1. I remember playing the heck out of that game. I never did beat it thought which makes me a little sad.

I have it on the PSP and the second one on PS2. I think it holds up today because it was a more original game, using unique gadgets to capture the monkeys, my favourite gadget is the skyblade, the green thing you swing around to get onto higher ledges

It's still a classic in my book for just the mechanics alone. I don't miss using the right stick for the camera when I got a center camera and look button.

I still ponder why not many games do this and have a mechanic that uses the right stick. I can see a good 3D arena beat'em up working well with it.

I remember getting stuck in the swimming tutorial because I didn't know you could click the sticks and I had no fucking idea what the game wanted me to do. After that it was all good.

My opinion is mostly like all the others, it introduced me to analog sticks and I loved the duck out of it.. Or should I say I loved the MONKEY out of it?... Sorry..

Hell yes. I own the PSP remake and remember playing the original a long time ago. Also have the second. Never played the third but it looked pretty cool, even if they story was kinda, well completely fucking retarded.

I've rapped over the soundtrack.

Seriously, that game might have made me interested in Hiphop (the good kind).

It was one of the defining games of my childhood, easily. And the music and atmosphere was perfect.

Played Ape Escape, Ape Escape 2, Ape Escape: Pumped and Primed, and Ape Escape 3 all as they came out growing up, it has it's place in my childhood for sure.

Wish they would make an Ape Escape 4 instead of these crappy Ape spinoffs like Ape Quest and Ape Academy, though.
