Apparantly, I am a degenerate of society.

Not all rap is bad but still, the majority just makes me cringe as the rap industry seems to be made of up people who cant rap, cant write, cant sing and are just plain terrible. Take this new Jay-Z song 'Forever Young'. Take an OK retro song, have it resung by some barely-known white guy and if that wasn't bad enough suddenly Jay-Z suddenly starts rapping and is completely out of time with the rest of the song and is throwing out some of the worst rhymes I've ever heard in such and annoying dreary voice,it really makes me wonder how he could ever become so rich and famous.

I don't dislike rap, I just don't like most of it. Because it was played waaaaaaay to much around me.

I don't dislike the people that listen to it either, as long as they respect (or ignore, whatever) my taste in music, as I ignore (or respect,) theirs.

There exist good rap songs, but like other genres, most rap is bad, and unlike other genres, bad rap isn't music.

I hate gangsta rap, I feel that all it's about is "bustin' a cap" and "inserting a penis into ladies' behinds" and also every song's the same. I don't have a problem with people listening to that, but I despise them when they start acting all gangsta. I do like some other stuff though, like Hilltop Hoods or Atmosphere. But I mostly listen to indie and old rock so yeah...

Really, why do people critisize a genre so much that they will refuse to listen to it at all? Eminem and Jay-Z have done some amazing songs, such as "Stan", "Empire state of mind" and "'Till I collapse"

And let's not forget the classics. Who can't remember Run-DMC, MC hammer and sir mix-a-lot?

The point of this post is; not ALL rap music is bad. RnB, however, is the real scum of society :)
Don't worry, most of the people on internet forums like these who hate rap music do so because they don't/can't/won't dance. Oh well, it just means more women for us :]

And what's wrong with R&B?

While I don't hate ALL rap music, I absolutely despise gangster rap. That kind just makes me shake my head in disgust before I switch to blaring various forms or metal/punk/goth/whathaveyou from my computer speakers.

Yeah, I hate all the violence and material excess. Disgusting.

And then I go play MW2 for a couple hours on my 42" HDTV.

Degenerate to society? According to who? (or is it whom, I really have no idea). I think that status is normally reserved for the lower end of the criminal spectrum, thieves, sex offenders, you get the idea. A term not usually applied to people who listen to mainstream hip-hop.

Same here. It's all the same to me.

Rap is good when it is poetic and poignant. When it is disposable and misogynistic then it loses most of its credibility in my opinion.

The feelings I have against rap lovers, or RnB fans doesn't come from the music itself, which I can sometimes enjoy, it comes from the sub culture most of them seem to be a part of. I've never had someone listening to Slipknot on their phone decide it would be funny to punch me in the face for example. Or when on a bus, I never hear metal or rock blaring loudly trying to annoy the other people on the bus, always Rap and RnB.

Those styles of music, generally I might add, not exclusively, seem to appeal to the least respectful, self obsessed, ignorant members of our modern society. Music cannot be blamed for the way people are, but people will still generalise based on the minority which get the most attention based on the bad things they do.

Games are exactly the same, one person may play GTA4 then decide to go kill a prostitute, now chances are that guy was inclined to do that sort of thing anyway, but the masses will make the connection and brand the game, and others who play it, as something terrible.
This is pretty much how I feel. After all, i've never seen a metalhead going around being an asshole to complete strangers for no reason but you can bet your ass that I've seen fans of rap music doing that.
That's probably got far more to do with metalheads being gigantic pussies than genuinly being nice people, from my experience metal is pretty popular umong date rapists, school shooters, and those weird guys who live with their mum and date 14 year old girls.

All that generalization is bullshit, obviously, just like your generalization is bullshit.
It's not just blind generalisation, it's personal experience. Any people in my life that have caused trouble towards me or anyone I know has been some asshole, rap music loving "gangsta". An asshole who, by the way, doesn't have the balls to do or say anything unless he's got a group of friends backing him up the whole time. So I'd say you've got your gigantic pussies right there.

Couldn't the whole idea that rap is disposable be changed if it was broadcasted in a different way?
I don't know. The only Rap/Hip Hop I find entertaining is what I'd call "gimmicky". Rap usually doesn't have melody and tends to be repetitive. So I wouldn't really see the value of revisiting these tracks 10 years later. Maybe I'm listening to Rap the wrong way. :)

Although I'm not a fan of the genre, I will freely admit there are some good... well, I was going to write "songs" but is it songs if they don't sing? Well, there are some good ones, anyway.

my music taste is wide ranging and my cd collection is like looking at a music library, but I cannot stand rap. That says nothing about the people who do listen to it though. It annoys me more though when rap artists destroy perfectly good music like numb by linkin park.

Rap artists are invisible to me until they put their obscure stamp on other bands music. It's like dj's manipulating classical music, it just shouldn't be done. everyone is entitled to their opinion and tastes so long as it doesn't throew mine back down my teeth and make me throw up.

I acknowledge rap's right to exist so long as I don't have to listen to it. You are not a degenerate because you listen to rap music.

I don't think that all people who listen to rap are degenerates, but I do hate rap. The last time I ever took an interest in rap, was the early 00's then it all basically turned to shit. I can listen to some, it just depends on the song the artist means shit to me for the most part.
Yeah that's what it's like for me I used to like rap but I rarely like it now.

This, this, a thousand times this.

But you're not a degenerate unless you act like a 'Rapstar'

Fairly simple I guess. :p

I think there's a difference between classic rap that actually addressed issues and modern ***** Rap, which sucks.

I really dislike a lot of rap music, but there's a few nuggets of gold in the muddy river of mediocrity.
I just try to avoid generalisations in relation to music.
