Oh God... why did I come here?!

I can only hope that spider silk conducts electricity, that's all I'm saying.

I think the spiders are rather close to the house and its a trick of perspective that makes them look like fist size monstrosities strung between power cables in the distance.

U no liek me?

You know what would actually make that picture cute? If the big puppy-dog eyes were actually puppy-dog eyes and not black, soulless pools from which I can see the depths of the abyss of hell itself.

Dammit, I was at least expecting something that would be scary to people other than those who're massively arachnophobic. Jeez, it's just some spiders.

I don't understand why arachnophobia is so prevelant. That video was actually pretty boring, once the initial wonder at such an awesomely large web passed.
Spiders used to be more dangerous to humans - thats why we evolved an inbuilt fear of them. I think there are only four things a newborn is capable of being scared of - spiders, snakes, loud noises and heights.
I think it's progframmed into most people from birth, Gorillas are afraid of them too, and snakes.

I have no idea why, most things that live can be smashed by a Gorilla.

Plus some spiders are adapted to deal with large apes, see the funnel web pic i posted, it's adapted to inject venom through thick skinned apes and mammals rather than to grip and envomate small rodents and bugs.

... I .. found it somewhat cute and fascinating.

But at the same time, horrifying and very creepy.
Of course, luckily I don't live there with spiders hovering over my head.

Please. Is that supposed to be spider related scaryness?

Help...
Jesus now THAT scared me. I literally leaned back in my seat shocked.
Thank you for least having it in a spoiler bar.
It's from a Porno. To quote cracked

<quote=Cracekd>
For you arachnophiles, someone did make spider porn, and it's so much worse than the name suggests. Like maybe you just read the segment on panda porn and saw the pictures and thought, "Well, I feel bad inside, but it's not like I want to use steel wool on my brain and genitals." Hold that thought. As you can see, this is the worst thing that has ever happened to you. I'm sorry. Even a sweet pair of perky Sorens can't compensate for that mug. If your penis responds to this with anything other than a high-pitched shriek, like the sound from a boiling kettle, as it bids a full-on retreat into your abdomen, then you are dirty in the soul. Your spiritual self is made of the latent energy expelled when dinosaurs shat themselves to death eons ago.
The story in this cinematic gem is that our protagonist -- let's call him Russell -- is a foul-mouthed gentleman looking through boxes in an attic. He's dropping F-bombs and hates his job, near as I can figure. And he's being spied on by an awful, naked spider lady.
Spider lady creeps out and Russell runs in a panic, as anyone should, because fuck that. But when I say fuck that, I don't mean like "fuck" that. I just mean eew. He runs downstairs and there's a locked gate of some kind, and -- this isn't relevant, but I need you to know this -- there's a bulldog sitting on the other side of the gate staring at him. I like to think that someone brought it to the set that day because they like hanging out with their dog and thought the dog might enjoy watching a spider porn shoot. Later they went out for burgers.
One minute into the video and the spider lady is on Russell. He's screaming, he's panicking, and within about 10 seconds, he's enjoying the sweet sensations and an arachno-BJ. There's a solid 11 minutes left of this that unfold exactly like every porno you've ever seen, only awful. So awful. Then it ends with her killing him, I guess, so that's a bit different.

I'm still wondering how they managed to get good production values for a porno.

I'm pretty sure I would be outside with a can of Axe (or equivalent) and a lighter, doing my duty to protect my airspace.

That or hiding in the basement and whimpering. Either one.

Get the nearest astropath and call the Inquisition. This planet needs an Exterminatus.

Help...
Why!? Why would you remind me of that!? WHY!?

OT: I had to sleep on my sofa because there was a spider in my closet, and the next day I had to phone a friend to come and take it out. That video... I would literally run away screaming as fast as I could. That shit is the stuff of nightmares.

Eh, just a bunch of spiders overhead in a giant web constructed across power lines.
Thought they'd be falling by the bucket-loads, but they seem to be content just chilling up there as we should be down here.

@SkarKrow - that Goliath is something I've never seen before...I didn't think it was possible to have that! What do they eat...rats and small children? And I've heard about the funnel web spider. I'm pretty sure humans can die from one of those bites.

As to the original post, it wasn't as scary as I thought, but I wouldn't want to live there. I think they'd be protecting people though - they'd be catching and eating mosquitoes and other things that we consider enemies inside our homes. As long as they're outside it's ok.

Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.

[HEADING=1]nope![/HEADING]

It would be time to bust out some gas and matches and kill the bastards.

Of course, someone else would be doing that while I will be in a bunker somewhere that will be filled with my swears.

I'm not afraid of spiders particularly, but wouldn't be leaving the house if I had to cross under a powerline to be honest. But that said, I don't like anything suspended over my head, especially not if it adjusts its own elevation.

IIRC correctly, it's not as such, as it doesn't hunt primates. It's just an unfortunate coincidence for them that the venom those spiders use just happens to be very good at killing primates.
