Overweight or obese according to what scale or standard?
I'm assuming the initial study went by BMI... or atleast estimated based off said scale
The problem is that BMI is the worst possible system of measurement. It does not account for body composition, which is much more important than the height/weight ratio. Even better if you can get a bone density measurement.

yup I agree on that, and on the same note your going, it's universal, not counting that ethnically there is a genetic standard build that may not be the same with another, but sadly it's used as a standard so most groups like this rely on that for their ammo.

- Did modern media effect this? Nope - waited 'til I was 17, 2 years into a relationship.

Are you overweight/obese? No - tall and lanky.

- Did above mentioned activities contribute to the issue? N/A

Do you smoke/formerly? Yes. Used to smoke multiple packs a day, now down to one pack a month.

-If yes, did above activities contribute to said issue? Nope - started smoking after I hit college at age 16 (tested out of High School). College was stressful, smoking relieved it.*

Do you drink? Yes. However, I will say this is "technically". I don't drink often, just not one of those 'I refuse to so much as touch something containing alcohol' types.

-If yes, did above activities contribute to said issue? Not at all - socializing would be the 'why' for this.

Do you feel, in your own words, that the use of electronics through the course of a day have affected your life in a negative, or positive way?
Electronics are a major source of entertainment for me, and in some instances stress relief. They have not prevented me from leaving my home for a casual walk from time to time, nor have they hindered my socializing (though admittedly I am quite introverted). However, I will say that I find cell phones to be a different kettle of fish than most electronics - they seem to have weakened social lives of children in numerous ways. An argument for another day, though.

*In all honesty, I'll say that it is possible smoking may have been a replacement for gaming. In year 1 of college, I gamed at night to relieve the stress of the day. As classes became harder, I took up smoking as my time to game decreased. There may be some correlation, but not solid enough to say one way or the other.

Hope this helps.

Are you overweight/obese: 5'10 and 135 pounds. I think that's underweight.
Do you smoke/formerly: N
Do you drink: N

Do you feel in your own words, that the use of electronics through the course of a day have affected your life in a negative, or positive way: Can't tell. It may have enhanced my computer skills, but since I have been a gamer for as long as I remember, I don't have a period of time to judge it on.

do you feel in your own words, that the use of electronics through the course of a day have affected your life in a negative, or positive way?

Positive. Thanks to cell phones, and other modern devices I am better able to keep track of my day to day life. Being an unorganized individual I rely on my phone, and PDA to keep things running smoothly for me.

The whole thing about music seems out of place to me. I thought we had moved passed the "music of the devil" phase of our society. If it means rap music that it should specifically say that. I think the point is moot since I have yet to meet a gamer that likes rap music.

The sex thing also bothers me to. Being stuck in jack-ass jesus land (AKA USA) we teach that sex is evil, vile, disgusting, condoms don't work, etc. Which of course goes against hormones, primal urges, etc. When I first became sexually active it was a choice of my own free will with no outside influence. If anything it was a curiosity to find out what all the hype was about. Same concept also applies to smoking/drinking.

Are you over weight/obese? Technically, yes. 6'0, 235, 15% body fat still = obese according to BMI.

do you feel in your own words, that the use of electronics through the course of a day have affected your life in a negative, or positive way? Positive way. They helped learn to socialize with others when I was smaller, mostly because I couldn't talk to anyone unless it was about electronics. Or sports.

do you smoke/formerly? (y/n) no

do you drink? (y/n) no

do you feel in your own words, that the use of electronics through the course of a day have affected your life in a negative, or positive way?

possibly negitive, in the social aspect

lol but i think that if i didnt play videogames, i would probably be 75% more likely to actually drink, smoke, have sex, and/or be fat lol

EDIT: reason for why,
if i didnt play videogames i would need to do something else with my time,
which would probably entitle a social life, which would entitly drinking, smoking, and/or sex

also, videogames do infact distract you from the need to eat lol

I see it as a positive influence. I can see how it may be negative, I see people texting in class all the time. I also sometimes get distracted on the internet when I should be doing research. But technology is such a useful tool. Plus my iPod helps me stay sane between classes at the horrible community college I go to.

I think with the music they were attack most genres that may " coerce the young generations who are more prone to suggestion that a life of sex, and hard living is rewarding...and then they secondly attack the constant use of mp3 players and such saying it's suggesting that " youth today" overstimulate themselves to the point of shutting out the real world around them"

and I personally found the sex thing interesting to " regardless of where one is from" I know they seem to be pointing at TV alot and the whole " sex sells" idea, but they generalized it for their reports... not trying to offend anyone, but in reality... when has it been easy for a 16 ( male or female) year old who is pushing 300lbs, only social interaction they know is " text wheels" on games or teamspeak, and bases all ideas of " the real outside world" off TV, who chain smokes, never leaves the house, rarely shower....going to find it easy to go out and get layed... the way their study seems to suggest comic book guy, and the wow guy from southpark are sex gods of the new age. at no point does it even suggest that ones promiscuity could most likely be more influenced by a active outside social life rather than one that is " more removed" as they claim.

and from what I've seen here on THESE forums, most sexual activity seems to pick up at roughly the same age it has for centuries...late puberty which..is sorta how it naturally works, I so far see no indication that anything outside of natural hormone driven factors determine that aspect.

any truth to this? not need to get detailed

I would say so; I was certainly the healthiest of my friends in high school, and we all played a lot of video games; obesity is pretty much certainly true, from what I can tell. I don't really see the correlation for the rest.

sexually active? (Y/N)

Yep

If yes do you think modern media ( tv,games, music etc) has played a major role in your choice? ( y/n)

I think the culture of my friends was a much bigger influence, but that itself was pretty heavily influenced by the media. Maybe I'm not a great person to ask about this one because I don't see why anybody would have any problem with a sexually active 20-year-old.

Are you over weight/obese?

Nope.

if yes, one to five..how much have the above mentioned activities contributed to the issue? ( 1 being none - 5 being a major factor)

do you smoke/formerly? (y/n)

Nope.

Yes.

2? I drink because my friends drink. It's a social tool.

do you feel in your own words, that the use of electronics through the course of a day have affected your life in a negative, or positive way?

In high school, it was a negative influence; I spent a lot of time on the computer and comparatively little time socializing. As a result I lagged behind my peers socially. I was able to recover quite easily once I grew up a little, though.

Positive. Communication has become easier, and I still interact with people on a physical basis enough so that my social skills have not started to atrophy. Yippee!

I hope that I've helped, and that my response wasn't too badly formatted~
