Well let's see... I read 97 novels over the span of 8 months a while ago. So the answer to this question is probably yes, yes I am quite a fast reader.

I can read up to 450 words/min so probably. However just cause you can read fast it doesn't always mean its a good thing since reading faster means you'll normally retain less (since you have to hold more data in a shorter amount of time). However when I'm not reading an essay or a textbook and its a book that I like, I normally slow to like 50wpm.

It also depends on the subject if you're reading philosophy from CS Lewis and Kant it'll normally be a lot slower than if your tanking something watery from like that Saga from Stephanie Meyer.

It took me ten seconds to read your post in its entirety, OP. I've always been a very fast reader. Matter of fact, some of the girls in highschool would pass me notes and get offended when I'd just glance at it; they figured I was blowing them off.

Despite this, I can't finish a book to save my life.

I don't know. I read faster then most people my age, but it took me about three months to read The Grapes of Wrath (reading roughly forty minutes a day), but I've heard that some people have finished it in a weak.

I read very fast, 70-80 pages an hour in Dutch or English. German, French, Norwegian, Swedish or Latin go slower though ;)

Maybe because that book is a ***** to get through.

At least it was for me.

I struggled through that thing. Only time I've ever been more disappointed in a book was War and Peace.

Goddamn that book was so mentally draining.

Well I think I read fast-ish, but I can't say I have a comparison to go on, so I'll say that I read the 465 page "The Magician's Guild" in about 7 hours working out as a little more than 66 pages an hour, meaning that's a little more than a page per minute if that helps you.

To the best of my knowledge that's quite fast, but it does mean that I occasionally need to reread a paragraph several times because I skip a line or two every time.

 Depends on a lot of things. Mostly how much retention I need. Reading for fun I go through about 4-6 books a week. We're talking books like the Wheel of time series or the Game of thrones series. Thats in the 3 hours I read before sleep; "If i sleep" each night. If I'm reading a philosophy book for class, my speed drops dramatically; but I'm still usually first complete.

I know. I picked it up because I wanted to read it, and only finished to prove I could. I still don't get the ending though, it's just total mind screw.

I was quick reader. Then I decided I'd rather be a detailed reader. I really don't buy into the idea that you can skim and truly build a deeper understanding what you've read.

I'm a fast reader (15 years of college will do that for you), but my wife is just ungodly fast. It must be genetic: our 8 year old devours chapter books like they're chocolate.

Secretly, I like to think I'm like the super-readers in Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next book series and that when the characters in the book are done acting out their scenes for me they all sit around going, "Holy shit! What the hell was that? It felt like we were real!"

I'm quite the fast reader and I tend to try and complete a book asap if it's good. Not really a good thing, I know.

I'm fairly fast, yes. Though if the writing in question is boring, i'll have to double or triple take to take it in properly. I take my time with graphic novels too, but that's more for the art. Other than that I blaze through books pretty quickly I think. A lot faster than I'd be able to speak what I'm reading at any rate.

Which one? Grapes of Wrath or War and Peace, because I couldn't finish either.

I can read fast and I do, however I often also re-read parts alot, to make sure I fully understand them.
