I love this country because why not? I mean, of course we've got problems but why hate my country? That's just a very childish thing to do.

Yes. I'm Israeli, and I believe firmly in my people's right to our thousands of years old homeland. I'm especially proud of having left a much easier life in America to come here because of my ideology, and soon I will be serving in the military to defend my country against those who wish to kill us and take our home.
must resist urge to get started about this

OT: i like living in America and all but i don't like the government (Dems. are incompetent, don't get me started about Republicans)and I'm not proud of a lot of the things that our country has done.

Nope. Not because there's anything especially wrong with England but because it's pretty ignorant to be patriotic to your country simply because you were born in it. Also I've always thought patriotism caused alot of problems.

I suppose I am a patriot, I love mt country and plan to join the Air Force, but I really don't refer to myself as one because it brings to mind all those tea party idiots.

I like the 2 countries I've lived in, but I'd only fight and die for them if they were fighting something evil.

While I don't doubt your sincerity, I think that conflict is a bit more complicated than that. On both sides.
I would say something, but your reply to his views manage to be quite respectful and to the point.

Admiting is the first part of the healing process. =)

Might I suggest looking into the reasons for such a cultural backlash as a second step?

Yeah, I totally agree. I'm from Brazil, and am pretty happy that I was born in a legimate melting pot of the most bizarrely different cultures of the planet.

Happy, but not proud, because I don't have any merit in it. Not yet anyway.

Yeah, and that's where I believe a lot of Brazilians make a grave mistake. They mistake the land for its deeply corrupt politicians. And decide that it's so shameful that it's not worth trying to make it better.

Thank heavens that a lot of people are campaiging for a new bill to pass that forbids indicted politicians to run for office. Fucking finally!!!

As a Dutchman, I resent the usage of the term "Holland" for our entire nation. It's kind of like saying "The north" when you refer to the complete USA. You forgot the south!

I, as many Brabanders (Southerners, Brabant is our state, sort of. It's a province, if you care, look it up), I am a major patriot as it comes to Brabant, but because the Catholic south has always been resented by the north, I don't care about them. (Not completely careless off course)

In short: yes, I am a faithfull Dutchman (Though not a guntoting, pot-smoking, clog-wearing guy in a windmill), and a patriotic Brabander. If I have to tattoo a flag on my arm, it'd be the Branbantish flag [http://www.ehvshop.nl/img/p/61-120-thickbox.jpg]. I know it's bland, but I didn't pick it.

Yeah, having a conflict about the Middle East crisis is never a good idea on the internet. All it does is get everyone involved pissed off, each one convinced only he is correct and that everyone else is wrong.

Let's begin and end with the fact that I am a patriot and will fight for my country, to defend myself and my people.

Maybe... I really don't know anymore. I considered joining the Military and all that, but I don't think that my "patriotism" extends quite that far. However, if, for example, someone were to invade, i'd probably go into the nearby mountains and go "wolverines!" on their butts. ;P

That's why I'm all for having an intelligent discussion rather than a conflict.

Nope. I don't care much for any country and I find it nothing more than lines in the sand of where one government ends and another one begins.

I'm pretty proud, but not patriotic. I will not defend my country in an argument with another nationality, and I would certainly not think myself better than them (that's not patriotism, I know, but you get what I'm saying)

If we were invaded, though, then I'd certainly help fight, because if someone's invading Britain, something's serious

I'm all for devolution, however. We need a Federal U.K. with subserviant English, Welsh, Irish and Scottish parliments

I can't stand when people say that being Anti-Israeli is being anti-semitic, despite the fact that semitic refers to all the people from that part of the world and not just jews.

Also, I saw in your post that you're from Brazil, my dad just got back from Sao Palo and said that it wasn't as bad as everybody thinks it is.

And of course the women there ;)

I just happen to be born on this patch of land thats controlled by some government. From what i understand patriotism is thinking that your patch of land is better than everyone elses. It makes more sence to me to fight for my way of life not for a patch of land.I live in a pretty shitty country btw.
