Pretty much everybody hates America, but yes I'm very patriotic. America is a much better place than everyone thinks. Some people don't realize this until they visit a place without the freedoms that we are priviliged to have here.
Also we are not all fat, ignorant, gun toting, Obama bashing, Mountin Dew chugging sons o' bitches.
Some of you drink Pepsi?
Hard to beleive, I know.

Some days I love Britain, it's countryside, it's wit, it's history and it's tolerance. Even it's weather. Other days I feel it's a loathsome place, small minded and cynical.

Yes. I'm Israeli, and I believe firmly in my people's right to our thousands of years old homeland. I'm especially proud of having left a much easier life in America to come here because of my ideology, and soon I will be serving in the military to defend my country against those who wish to kill us and take our home.

I come from Iceland and I despise the country except for the nature and good looking women.
Isreal.....Hmmmmm wasn't Pakistan split up because the jewish people needed land in WW2?
So it was actually stealing the land from Pakistan? This is just a thought correct me if I'm wrong and leave religion out of this please. But still correct me if I'm wrong.
You're thinking of Palestine. It's more complicated than that.

Patriotism, as I understand it, is just loving a country because you were born there. That makes no sense.

But genuinely liking where you were born, okay, I understand that. I like the UK, only because, sadly, 80 per cent of the world is a dump. Democracy, free healthcare and decent education are good in my books.

I'm not patriotic at all.

Personally, I support the theory of retardism. Assume everyone else is a retard until they prove differently.

So far, it's worked out pretty well. Keeps my stress levels way down, since you're already expecting them to act like retards. Saved my life on the roads a few times too! :D

''Every true Patriot, must be ready to defend his country from it's government''.
That just about sums it up.
That's similar to one I favor: "Loyalty to the country always. Loyalty to the government when it deserves it."

...I love Mark Twain.

Are you a patriot?

Do you love your country?
What do you love about it?

It could be your country's food, the language, the music or whatever.
These are two different questions mate.

Being a patriot means that you're proud to belong to a body of random people, most of whom you really don't have much in common with except for the fact that you live in roughly the same geographical area as they do. And sometimes not even that.Patriotism is basically nothing but a logical fallacy that governments love to exploit.

Loving the environment or certain aspects of the culture in your country has nothing to do with that.

I'm from the United States, so patriot carries a kind of negative message about blind arrogance around here.

That said, I like my country. It's taken pretty good care of me so far, and it's kept me safe from those that would do me harm. That said, I don't like it's pandering to the upper class and seemingly constant attempts to murder the middle class.

If my country was invaded, I would probably defend it. however, I would never go to war against anyone else and I would never argue with someone that my country was better than theirs (not seriously anyways)

Patriotism is silly, if you ask me. It basically amounts to "This country is better than all others because it's the one I was born in."

I like my country, but I certainly wouldn't call myself a patriot.

I believe if you are proud of your nation, then you also have to be ashamed for the bad things it has done in the past. You can't be one without the other, and to do so is incredibly foolish/idiotic/stupid/ignorant

but it also seems a strange idea to be ashamed/proud of something just because the person who did it just happened to be born on a piece of dirt which is near you...seems odd

I love the America I learned about in school---land of the free, laissez-faire, pull yourself up by your bootstraps minimalist government America.

The Democrats and Republicans are such a perversion of the Founding Fathers' vision for this country that if civil war broke out, I'd throw my lot in with the rebels.

Ahh Durham. How are you a city? :p
County Durham is the best name for a county though. It even sounds medieval.
Heh heh, we are by the definition that we have a cathedral (as you can plainly see). And yes, we're awesome [sub]even though I'm actually from Brighton...[/sub]

Being Scottish I'm supposed to be extremely patriotic, and it happens to be quite mandatory. Trying to fight the irrational prejudice against everything else is hard, but it has to be done. At least I'm completely outsider on the whole Rangers (Proddy) / Celtic (Catholic) thing. Don't care for either football team, either religion, the supposed links between them, none of it. Independence for Scotland? It would fuck with the economy no end, no thanks. Robert Burns? I sing Auld Langs Ayne every year, I'm not bothering with Haggis for his name's sake every February for burns day. I could see myself moving on from this country when I'm older, but so far I've never left Scottish soil. If there's good money and living somewhere else, an interesting and exciting opportunity and my leaving won't upset those around me, I'd go for it and fondly remember the old country more than it deserves.

Nah. Here in Sweden, "patriot" means "racist".
This is spot on. In Sweden, most people believe that being patriotic means believing that all other countries are inferior to their own country. This is not true! However, they are siamese twins sharing the same brain.

I'm patriotic in the sense that I am glad to be a part of this country. What I like is the original ideals this nation was founded on (ideas which I think we've lost touch with some time ago).

I love the ideal of America, but I'm not an idealist. I want to leave my country. Go somewhere else. It's really not working here.

Well played, sir :p

and no, I don't consider myself a "patriot" - I love England and given the right situation (like, if the country were under genuine threat) I'd fight for King/Queen and country, but I think over the top "patriotism" is unhealthy. The guy that said assuming your country trumps all others just 'cause it's yours being sucky, was dead on
