I know your fear is scary, and I won't let you finish, but the dark is the most irrational fear of all time.

OF ALL TIME!

But still most to all of us prefer to not reside in pure darkness without some form of a light source, or at least for an acquaintance of some sort, be it pet or person. So what about you guys? No matter how insignificant this fear may be, do you fear the dark?

I'm no pussy. I can go downstairs to grab a drink of water, or go to the bathroom to take a leak. But in the dark, It feels like I'm at my most vulnerable. Anything could just pop up, and I'd be constantly wondering what. Also, it doesn't help to visit the internet looking for Scary stuff.

Perhaps its not that we're afraid of the dark itself, but what it could possibly hold. Like most people fear doors, its fear of the unknown.

So where do you stand on fear of darkness?

Hmmm...

Well I'm paranoid in the dark, whenever I have a shower at night after everyones gone to sleep and its pretty much completely dark I keep imagining myself getting stabbed around corners and shit, not really afraid of it though... just irrationally cautious.

Nobody is afraid of the darkness, they're afraid of what is lurking inside of it.

That pretty much answers it for me personally. I'm not scared of the dark at all.

Its not the dark, its the psychopathic axe murder/viscous alien/knife wielding clown that hides in the dark.

I think is if we have it when we're young then it always stays with us a little bit.

I'm defiantly unnerved by the darkness.

Slightly.

It is perfectly natural though. We are programmed to be weary of our surroundings; and when we can't see said surroundings, they become potentially dangerous.

Terrified of pitch blackness... I don't mind dim light, but I can't sleep if I can't see my room, so I have a very dull light on the floor.. >_>

I guess it is a fear of the unknown. It's a fear that I won't be able to see what could be about to attack or jump out at me. I'd like a few seconds to try and defend myself instead of not knowing until it's too late. D:

Paranoia + Fear of the dark = a lot of insomnia. xD That's my fear in a nutshell.

I love the dark. I mean, it's gotta be pitch black for me to sleep most nights, but I can just sit there in the dark no problem. I just hate when I have to move around and hit something.

Totally agree on this. Especially the bumping in to things part.

I wouldn't say I'm scared of the dark, I just get a bit freaked out if I'm walking somewhere in the dark and I hear something behind or near me...

I have been known to karate chop thin air every now and again when that happens...

All of this.
I am so paranoid in the dark. I end up spinning around and trying to karate chop whatever my brain is telling me is behind me.
Then I knock over the plates and have to run upstairs and pretend I am asleep.

The dark and water scare me.....

I have this recurring dream where I'm in a hallway, in the house I grew up in, and it's pitchblack. As I walk down the hallway I hear things behind me, but can't see what they are.... yeah.... the dark freaks me out.....

The dark is afraid of me...
Anyway, not generally but if I've seen a scary film I tend to illuminate the room with my phone or i-pod before I fall asleep, just in case.

I'm only afraid in the dark when I've seen a good scary movie. Walking to my room through the hallway in the dead of night, I get that weird feeling I'm being watched and have to fight not to break into a sprint.
