I think it's dependent on the situation at hand. One cannot just have a preset view on the world/life, it changes depending on the obstacles or events we encounter.
I tend to have a healthy dose of perspective, and no desire to mope about things I can't change, which I suppose makes me an optimist. I don't mind getting my hopes dashed now and again, because hey, that's life. I'd much rather BE hopeful for things instead of just thinking that everything was going to be doom and gloom.
I consider my self a realist bordering on pessimist.
The glass is neither half full, nor half empty. It is constantly full. It's half filled with water, and half filled with air. Only in a vacuum state can the glass ever be not full.
