In certain cases, you need to. For example, there are certain videos on youtube that require a confirmation of your age for whatever reason. Plus, gamespot has a lot of over-18s trailers.
Although I'm actually 18 now.
If I have to put my birthday, I generally change it by a day or two. And I say that I'm 18 when asked, as I'm pretty sure everybody does.
