My dad got me into gaming... we used to play Crash Bandicoot on the PS1... I was quite young back then... Now, he doesent have much time for gaming and sucks at shooters. In halo 3 he actually gets to the point of hiding or running until I clear out a room... then shoot 1 grunt(barely) and call it teamwork. However, he KICKS ASS in RTSs... I cannot beat him in Age of Empire 3, Warcraft 3 and I am looking forward to gettin my ass kicked in Starcraft 2.

My parents still think video games are evil and only serve to waste my time and rot my brain. They tell me I shouldn't spend so much time on the computer. Which I find funny because I'm studying computers in university, and they spend ALL their free time in front of the television.

Yup.

Is that guy shooting himself in the head to attack? WTF?
The summoning device just looks like a gun. It's part of what makes the game so unique and fantastic.
Unique, yes. Fantastic...doubtful. Then again, I don't play Japanese games.

Good for them. Doesn't mean I have to like it.
Never said you had to. Just showing you most people consider it a fantastic game.

Same thing here. "Waste of time" this, "lazy and fat" that. Funny, video games actually have positive health effects.

Definitely not. They still somewhat believe that playing video games will turn me into a psychopath. Lucky they're not persistent.

To be honest, I don't care if it IS bad for me. The fact of the matter is, how much better could TV really be compared to gaming? That's all they do, and the fact that they look down on my hobby like that smacks of hypocrisy.

My mom knows alot about games, because I talk to her about them and she likes watching them, but she would never touch a controller.

I find most game reviews to be totally off base. Plus, most people are dumb as a bag of rocks. I like what I like, you like what you like, and we all can live merrily and harmoniously till the day we die.

My mum knows nothing about games, just that I play them.
My dad, owns a Wii with Wii fit and Mario Kart which he plays. He also likes to keep pinching my Guitar Hero whenever he's near it. He also keeps telling me that The Beatles Rock Band is a really good idea. I wouldn't be surpirsed if he bought it

My mom was my family's first gamer, then me. My mom took me to arcades and took me to game stores to browse together or to rent games, bought consoles, and just fostered my love for games. We used to play together when I was a kid into my teens. But consoles got a bit too complicated for her hands (She has MS) so she went mostly to PC, though she can also play Wii games. I actually wrote about this for a past Escapist issue.

I've been thinking a lot about games as art lately and have tried to explain my thoughts to my mom. She, for good reason, thinks of games as just a bunch of shooting and gore. Her response was to say that it is just hard for her to imagine games as anything more than shooting and gore.

My dad thinks video games are useless, brain-destroying and unproductive. He would prefer I read a book. My mother's views aren't quite as strong. And she is a maniac for simple PopCap-style games. Although, I have heard she agrees with a ban on an R 18 classification for games here in Australia... So I may have to disown her.

But both never really engage in a conversation about video games.

My mom currently plays WoW and got me into games by accident by buying herself an NES. My first game was Final Fantasy. My second was Legend of Zelda.
My dad is mostly indifferent to the hobby.

My dad used to play the NES , SNES and Sega Master System 2 with me when i was little but now he's too busy working and doesnt have the time to bash on games like mario and sonic and pac-man.

My mum, she's never been into playing games but she'll shout me when there is a video games advert on TV lol :D Bless her!
