EDIT:People, some of the information I ask for is that you give your budget in USD, that you state your country, and that you put at least 2 smiley faces in your post. :)
If your asking for information about upgrading parts on your CPU, ram, or motherboard, I need to know what motherboard your using.

All right, since people have been requesting that I give Quotes on a PC build, or that I show them a build that fit's their budget, I've decided to do a thread of it.
Basically what you can do is either show me a Configuration and your budget, and I can tell you what's good about it, or where you could do better, or you could just give me your budget, and I will get you a custom 100% genuine configuration.

ALSO. I mainly focus on gaming configurations, and the configurations I give are primarily for gaming. If you'd like a build for something else, such as workspace Maya, simply say so, and I can focus the build around that.

You can do it via this thread, or through PM's. Although my PM box is filling rapidly, so I wouldn't mind doing it here.

I'm looking for a cheap Core 2 Duo, I just saw the "Demigod" trailer and I know that game will be the one to kill my God knows how old Pentium D (crysis didn't surprisingly, and supreme commander pushes the limits but that's no surprise).

Still, I've looked at www.tigerdirect.com and newegg, and so far I've still got some waiting to do for that price to drop.

They are overpriced (but surprisingly still worth it) for sure and I still have the money for even a quad core, but I hate spending so much on just one thing - makes me feel like I'm pompously rich. Most of the great deals are motherboard combos but I don't need a new mobo either, and I'd check Fry's but they have new sales and deals every week, so it's inconsistent, sometimes they are 400 dollars, sometimes they are 150 (but at the time I didn't have the cash ;_; ) - when it comes to Core 2 Duo's, I know shit, there are SO many models that I have no idea which one will be the best for me, if I wasn't so conservative I'd just get the quad core because it would last me like, 2 more game generations, and it is a lot cooler in temp.

Thanks for the help man, it's a nice thread idea but I hope you don't get flooded with requests. This isn't a high priority for me (as I've been pondering this for a long time but until my proccessor actually meets it's limit I won't need a new one, I'm really curious to see which game will kick it's bucket) so just PM me if you do look it up.

EDIT: (I just looked this one [http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3826343&CatId=2396] up, it seems to have good specs and it's 775 so it's an easy switch.)

Read my message, Also if you go quad then you might need to upgrade your power supply unit. Also high end duos will almost always be better then a low-end quad even if the quad looks better and is the same price as a high end duo.(My defintion of high end might be low compared to others.) I learned this in one day fairly easy from people like aries. :D

Actually bullet, that's not true. A 2.4 quad will most definitely outperform a 3.0ghz Wolfdale.

Because there are 4 cores running at 2.4ghz instead of 2 cores running at 3.0ghz.

It also has a larger LM Cache, which helps speed immensely.
I think you got what I told you earlier in the wrong context. A Duo will outperform most Quads on GAMES. Because current games (save crysis and a few others) are not optomized for multi-threading (The act of using multiple cpu cores.). A quad beats Duo's in most other areas, and I wouldn't imagine you needing anything more than a standard 420w PSU to run it.
:)
That is also a reason why the PS3 is fairly difficult to develop for. It is using an 8 core cell proccessor.

If you want the absolute MOST bang for your buck graphics card, I would have to recommend the Radeon 4850.
"GASP! But Aries, you've stated yourself that you despise AMD with a passion!"
It's true, I do. But I also know a decent GFX card, and although I have never used it, apparently the 4850 is a godsend for the sub-$200 category.

I could most certainly help you find a good laptop for what you need to do. Make another post with your details, or send me a PM.

Thanks for showing interest guys, gives me summin to do.

First of all guys, I get ALL of my parts from newegg [www.Newegg.com] almost exclusively. It's price has proven to beat ANY retailer and most other online retails. It has won the prestigious
ARIES CHOICE AWARD

Secondly Arab, this will suit your needs fine.

Hurraz! I'm a man without anchors, doncha know. My need is pretty straight forward, I like to game. I'm a man without womanly anchors, doncha know. Besides word processing/internet surfing my laptop has no other purpose. Budget is under $1000. I'm a man without monetary anchors, doncha know. The real objective here is a bit of a thought-experiment though, so I'm not afraid to go over a little. I really would like a computer that can be relatively dependable 3-4 years down the road, a smaller screen, (again, mobile) and nothing too complicated in terms of operating. I'm a man without educational anchors, doncha know.

Thanks for the help! I'll use the forums because I don't want to overwhelm your PM box.

Just for the sake of making it easier on my part, could you convert that to USD? Please? If you can't I understand but it makes it sooooooo much easier when I don't have to track down a currency converter.

Sure thing mate. this [http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=320] should cover all your needs. It's speedy, reliable, and should run any current game and most future easily at medium settings.
It's already preconfigured too, so you don't have to worry about choosing anything outside of warrenties. :)

Crrato, look ,I dunno how to tell you this, but I'm basically useless to anyone not in the US,Canada, or Australia. I can give you a list of parts, but I'm not sure if you'd be able to get them all. My main supplier, Newegg, does not ship to New Zealand. Niether does Ibuypower.

I feel really bad because I can show you a really good configuration for your budget, but I'm not sure how...are their any computer hardware stores you can tell me about in NZ?

Yeah I know the quad will outpeform in the long run but spending 100$ when a duo will good. Also its lets quad prices get cheaper sos he can get a quad in a few years for 150$ or so.

You could have told me about the radeon being better in the long run before I figured out the intel mobos.. I dunno may switch up at the end of the year anyway if the 4850 gets any cheaper.

There's an amazing gaming rig that should absolutely DEVOUR any game you throw at it, including crysis. You can run Crysis, 1920x1200(That is actually BETTER than 1080p Full maxed settings, INCLUDING Anti Aliasing and Antistropic Filtering.

I'm sure I could raise the price a few more hundred dollars and squeeze out a few more FPS, but this is about as good as it gets. I saved you a few hundred dollars to spend on your moniter. Pick a good one to compliment this bad boy. If you want help just ask and I'll totally pick one for you :)

Dude that build is AMAZING. I had a build in mind already but you blew it away and saved me at least $300 dollars.

I already had a monitor in mind but seeing as you just slashed $300 dollars off what my projected price would be I think I may have to look into an even better one.
