About the only game I've let Yahtzee talk me into was Painkiller, and that was because I know what good mindless fun FPS can be like. That said, I haven't regretted it - Painkiller is pretty stellar. (Unfortunately, it does make me feel a bit sick to my stomach as some FPS engines will sometimes.)

I like to think I might have influenced him, too. Somewhere on the Zero Punctuation EVE Online Review comment thread, I recommended City of Heroes. I don't know if that spurred him to action (not too likely given the plethora of other ways he might have heard of the game) but hey, I get "I told you so" props for City of Heroes not being immediately terrible, don't I?

From the Game Damage review, it seems Yahtzee's main turnoff of the game right now is that they seem to be running some kind of game event that has zombies spawning in newbie zones. (It's a little ironic considering that, while it's quite disorienting to the new users, dynamic content (even crudely forced in a temporary event) is quite refreshing for established players.)

That said, I'm currently really burnt from City of Heroes and am anxiously awaiting Champions Online, which will be true a City of Heroes re-designed sequel in every way but intellectual property.

well form this i think its safe to say that everyone is divided on the subject. Most take it as humour, some as a view point to act upon, and some, like me, see it as a good review, even if it is exaggerated...the flaws are there to be picked at

I'm tempted by painkiller but that's only because I could do with some mindless fun, and I'd never heard of it before. Everything else I've usually already played or have no interest in.

Yahtzee hasn't affected my buying of game. Simply because I find his reviews are now more about "shits and giggles" than actual criticism. So what I'm saying is, Yahtzee is a verbal assasin.

I picked up Killer7 as a result of his No More Heroes review...and promptly traded it in 3 days later. Yeah, that game was just not for me.

Yahtzee's reviews are more useful in steering clear of games that got good reviews elsewhere, since other companies may be encouraged to give positive reviews of a game to avoid being hated at by the community, while Yahtzee has no taint and is fully supported in going off and making huge critical statements about a game that others neglect to mention or quietly brush aside (Halo 3 is a good example, Yahtzee made a big thing about character AI, while other sites kept complaints to a minimum)

His reviews don't put me off games, or make me buy a game; just helps me weigh the pro's and con's. The things he tends to dislike in games, are similar to my own, so if he points out something that is pretty bluntly...crap, generally I'd agree too. Short answer: he doesn't alter my decision, only helps with some information. As some others have said too, I watch the reviews more for a few laughs.

Unfortunately, I fall into the category that he seems to despise, or at the very least suffers from massive paranoia in that he believes our kind are in constant watch of him, ready to pounce. I tend to buy games i think I even MIGHT like fairly quickly after they release, and since he reviews based on an Australian market (me being in the US), the reviews are generally too late. (I reference his MGS4 video...I feel like he thinks I'm the kind of guy outside his house ready to pounce for saying anything bad against it)

However, Sonic Unleashed and Fallout 3 were two examples in which I opted out of playing because of his review. Not because I may neccessarily AGREE with his overall opinion, but because one of his fifty-billion issues includes a glimmer into an aspect that kills my interest. I.E. his revealing to me that Sonic has the aggrivating Hub system from Sonic '06 and that Fallout 3 is most assuredly Oblivion with a gun.

Oh, and I like RPGs. That seems to cut me out of most "avoid what he warns against" issues. Our tastes are too different.

I don't really buy anything based on one source only.

But I do trust Yahtzee a good bit. Everyone's review is only as good as their personal taste is compatible with yours, but a good reviewer can expose both their preference and their reaction, which allows you to disregard the reactions caused by preferences you don't share. That makes for a very usable review. Yahtzee is pretty good about this, and that the reviews are presented in the form of comedy doesn't matter.

I watch ZP for the lulz, nothing else. I tend not to buy games based off reveiws unless they all say that the game is shite.

No - I find his videos amusing, but his views are often incredibly distorted, and he focuses on his own opinion (they are really just rants) way to much for them to be considered fair reviews.
Exactly this. The man's funny, I don't deny it, but he's funny because he rants. If he was a fair and unbiased reviewer, analyzing every different piece and aspect of a game, he wouldn't be the same. So, he focuses on the bad points, maybe embellishes them a bit, throws in some swearing, and et voila! , a Zero Punctuation.
But what is a fair and unbiased reveiw? There is no magical scale used by proffessional reveiwers to truely decide if a game is good or not. Everyone is in someway biased. I personally find that the way in which Yahtzee is biased coincides quite well with my rare and unexpected acquisition of cash and desire to buy a game.
