I don't watch his reviews too much anymore to be honest. At first it was purley entertainment, and no i never bought a game just because he said it was good, or didn't for that matter. But yea i consider his opinion just as i would any other reviewer. btw hows COH treating ya?

I don't mind Yahtzee. (read: I think Yahtzee's in the top five of the coolest things on the internet) In fact, I agree with him even when he's ripping something apart. He doesn't like fighting games. I really like them. And it's a perfectly fine reason, as with why he doesn't like JRPGs. Which actually seperates him from 99% of the gaming community that will throw the word suck around and use retro-fanboyism, console-fanboyism, and graphics whoring as their excuse to do so.

But he makes entertaining cartoons so automatically he's a celebrity. And celebrities have iconoclasts and antifans.
I have to disagree with you on that 99% of the gaming community likes JRPGs. You're probably just using hyperbole but really i'd say that the figure is more around 50%. The Madden and COD gamers aren't usually the ones who also play Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy and they makeup a large part of the gaming community.

I decided to buy Zack and Wiki after reading his article, and I finally picked up Psychonauts because he brought it back to the front of my mind. Watching the old episodes also reminds me to finish my games, like No More Heroes and TWEWY... But I like it best when he reviews a game I've already purchased... That way I can see how his opinions clash with mine.

Ok I see what you were saying. They way you had the sentence in your post made it seem like you were saying that 99% of gamers like JRPGs

What, how do I think when Yahtzee's views and mine differ?

The same way I do when I notice any review for a game. I consider the frame of the reviewer's points and hold it up to my own values. Some things matter more than others to every gamer and my opinion's ultimately the one that matters. I take in the amusement of the spectacle but judge the content to my own set of criteria, such as consistency being important and graphics not really being of much concern to me. I like TWEWY and SSBBrawl and even though Yahtzee disagrees I don't hold it against the man. He's a critic, that's just what he does. It doesn't deter from my desire to level up my pins or my bi-weekly on average all-night Brawl sesions. It's just a matter of predisposition and personal taste. I think Silent Hill 3 was better than 2 and there's not a lot some witty rambler on the other side of the globe can do to convince me.

That's pretty much why I like comparing what I got out of a game compared to what Yahtzee did, just the same as I'd compare it to the experience had by any pal of mine. Only without the visual humor and all the bright yellow.

I tend to be affected by his reviews because his opinions on game's I've tried are remarkably similar to mine.

Meh, i don't know, I've learned that the type of gamer i am leads me away from the games he tends to review in general

I like some JRPG's, as in the few i played...

I'm an odd gamer though, i have maybe 20 games total i like, and don't add to this collection often, usually due to my poorness but also because I have no desire to...

Anyway, I'd say i watch for fun only, frankly I disagree with The World Ends With You review in most respects, some stuff i did agree with (namely the 104 math problem thing) and I love brawl for multiplayer reasons.

Not so much because he sugested it, but I did, lookin into and eventualy bought no more heros and i'm glad for it.

Also BloodSquirrel Its obvious that in order to make a review it has to be colored by your own experience. so in that since you can. Some people find Halo Fun And I find it lackluster, that doesn't mean their wrong, but that doesn't mean I should follow someones bias review.

Also its worth it to say that Evan if you don't completely agree With Yahtzee, I still find it very fun to watch. and fun is whats important.

cant say im all that affected by reviews overall, i watch them mostly for the entertainment value, i watch just about every review i find on select gaming sites cause i like knowing stuff about games, even if im never going to try them out.

So no, i have not been affected by Yahtzee more than the fact that he's given me stomach cramps a couple of times :p

I usually don't base my decisions off of his opinions except when he absolutely loved a game because his job is to harp on the bad things and when he's got nothing but praise for a game I feel compelled to find out what could possibly live up to his impossibly high standards. I probably would never have even heard of Psychonauts if it weren't for him.

Well, maybe I tend to take reviews a little to heart and head more than others. Sure they are just one persons opinions, but when can you say that you've been in a store looking for a new game, picked one up with a sicker saying "9/10 The best game this year" and not even thought about giving it a try?

Anytime. Specially with numeric reviews... Numeric reviews = reviewer sucks.

That said, I like Yahtzee's reviews as reviews, but I would never blindly buy a game just cause Yahtzee said it was good... Sheepish mentality is never good. I may, however, give it more attention if it gets a good review.
