Longbowmen were trained from an extremely young age, the english longbow was capable of doing what it did because of its incredible draw weight, an untrained peasant couldnt fire it.

http://militaryhistory.about.com/od/smallarms/p/englongbow.htm
Though an effective weapon, the longbow required extensive training to use effectively. To make sure that deep pool of archers always existed in England, the population, both rich and poor, were encouraged to hone their skills. This was furthered by the government through edicts such King Edward I's ban on sports on Sunday which was designed to ensure that his people practiced archery. As the draw force on the longbow was a hefty 160–180 lbf, archers in training worked their way up to the weapon. The level of training required to be an effective archer discouraged other nations from adopting the weapon.

Modern bows top out around 50-75lbs
You call a five foot long hunk of wood easy to conceal?
I stand corrected. I forgot how long a longbowman took to train. On the other hand, crossbows were nearly as easy to operate as early firearms, didn't take a lot of upper body strength, even for the really heavy duty ones (although you needed a lot of time to crank the things).

As to concealing the bow, once unstrung (which is rather untrivial, I know) it is easily hidden among an innocuous bundle of firewood.

Do you own a plasma rifle? come on I KNOW YOU DO!
Also, If you could would you buy a plasma rifle?
Again, If you did buy several Which one would be your favourite?

I think that plasma would incinerate whatever you shot. helpful if you can't really aim worth a s**T.

How do you reload a handgun? It can't be as simple as pulling out the magazine and sticking a new one in.
you need to pull the hammer or charge the slide. But that's for a semi automatic handgun. Revolvers are a little more complicated

"I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"

I couldn't resist.

My question, is which rifle make would people recomend? I've read that a .22 is best to start with, any manufactures you'd recommend, avoid etc?
I would say a "Winchester". Those really are good quality firearms. Anything bolt action is great for range shooting or small game hunting

Marlin also makes some high-quality .22 rifles. They're godly.

I hear they have some lever-action ones. Do want.

"Why are you my uncle/grandfather/entire extended family?"

Yeah, I've been brought up around guns, so I don't have many questions. Nice to see someone fielding these questions, though, I think a lot people who don't spend much time around guns have some misconceptions about them that should be cleared up.

I am a gun owner and I think sometimes people dont know things about guns and want to.
So, ask away.

As this is a game forum I expect to receive lots of FPS gun related questions, thats fine but recognize that im not up on every single game, so if you are going to ask me if gun X from game Y is real, maybe post a link to a site describing it.

Also, im not really here to get involved in a gun control debate, if that is what you want to do then please PM me and I will link you to a political discussion forum with a gun control discussion board that I post on regularly. Or if you only want to engage me in such a discussion then we can do it through PMs.
I just dont want to clutter this post with that stuff.

So, go ahead, ask me anything and I will answer you to the best of my ability.
Nice to know there is someone else here who knows their way around a firearm :). What guns do you have?
Kk here's another question, what's the difference between shotgun guages? Like 12 or 20

Why in the fuck do you need a gun? seriously, are you a ****? Or do you genuinely think you need it for some stupid reason? Self defense isn't an acceptable option
Alright, if you get rid of self defence... I own several for hunting, 2 that I never shoot since their kind of old (1861 Enfield, percussion cap, black powder whole nine yards and a Lemat revolver... yeah, both genuine Civil War guns) So collectors value, and then you have what I used em for before I moved to suburbia. Pest Control.
On the self defence isn't an option... if your opponent has a gun, you don't and you don't happen to be Chuck Norris (sorry, had to) how would you say defend yourself? Beg and plead and hope he/she don't pull the trigger? Self defence is the reason I have a colt 45, shoulder holster and concealed carry permit.

Gauge is a strange unit of measurement from a bygone era
It is the number of lead balls of that size which weigh a pound
so, to make a pound of lead fit in a 12 gauge shotgun barrel you must make 12 balls out of it

Good to know that self defense is not acceptable in your society, ill be over to rape your significant other soon.....
/sarcasm

Seriously, read the OP, if you feel this way then PM me and I will link you to a political discussion site or debate you through PMs, why be like this?

They have buttons on the side that eject the magazine. Then you put in a new one and pull back on the slide. You may not need to pull on the slide i forget if thats fake or not i've only fired a simulator handgun and they didn't let us sim the reload.

This is not so much a question as a thought.

Good for you. Having a firearm is something I believe every sane adult household should have. I myself have a civilian grade AK-47(no i'm not joking) and by starting this kind of thread helps reduce the huge negative stigma about firearms.

To horribly misquote Benjamin Franklin "Those who fear weapons more the fear of loosing the right to have them deserve neither."

There was why the second amendment came second.

Can you hold your gun sideways out of a moving Cadillacs window and still hit the old lady across the street?
I tried shooting a gun side ways at a gun range, it's really inaccurate. As for shooting an old lady, I have no idea. I kill paper targets, not real people.
