Guns are pretty foreign to me, but all this talk of zombie apocalypses got me to thinking: In the event of said apocalypse how would I go with my complete lack of firearm experience. is it as easy as it looks in the movies to just pick up a gun, whack in a magazine, point and shoot at the nearest undead corpse and watch it's head explode?
try it
rapidly moving melon shaped object (which zombie rules?) at 50-200m, complete lack of experience

yeah you're fucked :p

try this;
take one milo tin or similar; fill with water and tape down lid.
place on top of coin on a fence post or similar.
use one moderately powered rifle, .223-243 is ideal, shoot the tin.
the water will expand rapidly and the tin will bulge and unwrap; the side will fly off.
however before this happens the pressure forces the base off the tin to mould around the coin and into the post.

the result is a perfect double mould of the coin; note how bumpy it is where the tin forced itself onto the rough surface of the post.

You ever fired two guns whilst jumping through the air?

You ever fired one gun whilst jumping through the air?
You ever emptied your clip in the air while going "nooooooooooooo" because you just can't shoot him?

Is it true that there's spot on your head that makes your head explode if you shoot it?

I already asked this but I never got a definitive answer so I?ll try again.
Will a gun jam if I use it at point blank?
not unless something like a hand stops the slide from cycling

I am a gun owner and I think sometimes people dont know things about guns and want to.
So, ask away.

As this is a game forum I expect to receive lots of FPS gun related questions, thats fine but recognize that im not up on every single game, so if you are going to ask me if gun X from game Y is real, maybe post a link to a site describing it.

Also, im not really here to get involved in a gun control debate, if that is what you want to do then please PM me and I will link you to a political discussion forum with a gun control discussion board that I post on regularly. Or if you only want to engage me in such a discussion then we can do it through PMs.
I just dont want to clutter this post with that stuff.

So, go ahead, ask me anything and I will answer you to the best of my ability.
Nice to know there is someone else here who knows their way around a firearm :). What guns do you have?
Kk here's another question, what's the difference between shotgun guages? Like 12 or 20
Power, It goes like this (weak to strong) 20-12-10 Example: a 12-gauge is more powerful than a 20-gauge.

Your forgetting the distict possibility of blood and or other such peppering into the barrel and other bits. On the whole this won't do anythign besides making you need to clean your gun later, but there is the small chance of it burning to and sticking up the firing pin, messing with the slide, killing your accuracy because of bits in the barrel etc. etc. If your going to shoot someone with a gun... shoot from about 3 steps back. No such problems and you still aren't going to miss.

Not really, jams are usually about specific failures of design or ammunition, thought I suppose, as mentioned by ironsouled, debris might get in the way. Still, I would have to say its highly unlikely.

No, its not very easy at all, in a way its like a car, if you dont know what your doing you can totally screw things up. They do not have a simple point and click interface

Though most of the time in the movies the gun they pick up is from someone who has already prepared it for them to fire, or someone who was killed while firing. In those instances yes, it is point and click (though your accuracy will probably suck) at least until you run out of ammo and have to reload.

I dont think there is a difference at all, (searches web)
Holy shit, there is, I never knew that, wow
http://carnival.saysuncle.com/002453.html

Its a minimal difference, but enough that a shooter would want to use the right ammo for shooting in target situations.

...but what's the worst/stupidest/most dangerous thing you've seen someone do with a firearm?
Stashed away somewhere on my computer, I have a video of a shooting demonstration in a Las Vegas desert. One idiot was firing a modified AK-74 for so long that the plastic foregrip literally melted off. He then went and lit a cigarette on the barrel.

With the rise in ammunition prices, have you had to decrease the amount of times you go shooting? Have you been storing ammunition at all? Have you heard anyone else complain about the ammunition shortage?

Edit: Also, one does not have to reload a knife! :D

Not so much about firearms, but if you have a gun, and another guy has a gun, and you both look at eachother menacingly, does a tumbleweed spontaneously pop into existance and roll past the both of you?

[sub]*this may only apply to revolvers[/sub]

Do you agree that the Colt Single Action Army is the greatest handgun ever made, and that six bullets are more than enough to kill anything that moves?

Always shoot from the hip you need to arc the round, also i hope your backyard is big you could feel the heat blast back at 10 meters.

I dont shoot too often, so no, I havent bought ammunition in a year or two, so no I havent noticed.
But yes, I do store ammunition

In reality you do have to reload a knife, since the killing power of a knife is your muscles, which grow sore and need rest your ability to kill with a knife will degrade over time without rest.

No, but oddly enough a stranger appears and starts whistling

whilst i did lol at the excessive use of the word "y'all" (excessive, i.e. more than zero) that was an epic star wars reference in there
good info too.
so basically i shouldn't really risk firing ex-mil ammo in a rifle chambered for .308 winchester, and vice versa - but ex-mil brass can be used and reloaded into .308 win.

edit: also i thought your username was 'manurhin', as in the french revolvers at first lol

What would you say the most badass looking gun would be? I've only seen a few guns in real life.
Really tough question, there is so much badassery out there.
I think I am gonna have to get back with your tommorrow, its 3 am and I intend to make a list of badass firearms based on category, would take way to long for right now.

Here is one to start with
http://world.guns.ru/smg/smg57-e.htm
The main badass portion being the new magazine type, can hold 50-100 rounds at a time, this company was killed by the assault weapons ban as it made their main claim to fame illegal for civilian use, with no military contracts yet they sunk.
I wonder if someone will start them up again, if the patents are owned or what.

ok, badass guns.

Handguns
"pretty" badass
Walther PPK, nifty little handgun, concealable yet stylish, deserves its place in James bond movies
http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg13-e.htm

Historically badass
Colt 1911, was the official pistol of the US military until they decided that their candy-ass soldiers couldnt handle a .45 anymore (I kid, standardization around the 9mm was in there somewhere. It is notable that the special forces went back to the .45 round, though in different guns)
http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg04-e.htm

Powerful badass + badass new design
http://world.guns.ru/handguns/hg186-e.htm
A lower chamber firing revolver that utilizes the previous round to rotate the cylinder, making it semi-automaic
If you have seen "gamer" this is the pistol he uses.If you have seen the serenity posters its what river holds.
New design is obvious
Powerful is because it come in the .454 casull, and to get more powerful than that you must move to custom or "wildcat" calibers, many revolvers chamber this round.
Yes, its more powerful than a .44 magnum, also known as the "dirty harry" gun

Powerful badass honorable mention
The magnum research BFR, they swear it stands for "big _FINE_ revolver"
http://www.magnumresearch.com/FAQ_BFRRevolver.asp
Shoots a rifle round, the 45-70

Most badass submachine gun
FN P90
High rate of fire, high armor penetration, large magazine capacity, small size, very badass gun.
http://world.guns.ru/smg/smg13-e.htm

historical badass
Thompson submachine gun
Invented for WWI it never made it into battle, was sold to civilians in absence of a military contract (common thing for new gun designs, nostalgic generals oppose them, stick to tradition)
http://world.guns.ru/smg/smg29-e.htm

the Russian equivalent
http://world.guns.ru/smg/smg02-e.htm

Technology badass
The Kriss, has a recoil management system
http://world.guns.ru/smg/smg96-e.htm

More badassery to follow
