I'm first watching the e3 footage right now.

Gravemind.

It's essentially the "queen bee" of the flood. Calling it a god would not be an understatement.

Gonna have to go into more detail than that, as I thought that Halo's story is one of the best universes for a game series ever.

Its just that people tend to see space marines, aleins, and then just stop paying attention, when it actually goes uch further than that.

Halo has more in common with ancient Epic poetry than your standard sci fi armyfest.
More importantly, what about Halo 4. It certainly took me by surprise. Nice to see a sequel to Master Chiefs story

will you cry if halo 3 introduces cover-based shooting and strands MC and Cortana on a planet where everything is grayish brown?

As I explained around 5 times in the answered questions section HINT, Those aren't Halo fans.

They go to whatever game is uber popular at the time, when Modern warefare came out, 99% of them left Halo 3 Matchmaking, and went to COD. I haven't met a single person like that in MM in 3 years.

Now, there has been a recent influx of anti-COD people on the Bungie fourms, but that died down a few months after black ops.

I think it's just some people's way of coping with the fact that halo just ins't the most popular game out there any more.

I like Halo for 4 reasons:

- I find the game really fun (I have never had so much "HOLY CRAP DID YOU JUST SEE WHAT I DID!" moments as in halo 2)

- Bungie is on valve tier as far as how they care for their products, and care and interact with there fans more than ANY other dev, and THAT I will defend.

- Halo has a rich universe and backstory.

- Halo has some of the best user content creation systems for a console game, THE best for a console FPS.
Stories debatable but fair enough

But when I said halo fans I did mean HALO fans, not those shallow game followers
he literally has done everything there is halo related (minus watching Legends because it's anime) and he just constantly talks about it and just will NEVER shut up

also he's a total scrub, yeah he's GOOD at the game, but whenever he DOES die (which when I play is quite often being that I'm used to faster moving targets and dodging more bullets and having health that DOESN'T come back) he ALWAYS has an excuse for it like "well I was trying to do this" or "well I was doing that"

also he's the one that will melee a hunter to death and go "GUYS GUYS CHECK IT!" while I'll just charge one, jump back, then pistol shot through the stomach and say "Yeah I did it to, way faster and way more efficiently" then he'll go into a rant about how what he did took skill and what I did was nooby and blah blah blah

halo fans like that are EVERYWHERE over here
they're what I was wondering about

I played it.

Despite the fact that it's often looked down upon by the canon people, it didn't break any canon.

I like it, it added little stuff, but nothing mind blowingly awesome.

The cutsecenes were amazing though.

Not sure.

I agree with 343's choice of the CE remake, and how they are going about it's multiplayer, but I feel that they should have waited for halo 4.

Honestly, with cryptum, who knows whats going to happen in halo 4?

Why all the hate for CoD? Don't get me wrong, hate for that series seems to be the tow line around here but by your logic you should love it too, it expanded upon many halo elements while adding it's own and a control scheme and game play mechanics that are more fluid and cohesive to play.
I DO like COD.

Not as much as Halo though, if you recall, I stated that I loved halo because of gamplay, fun moments, the backstory, Bungie, and the customization.

COD only really has the good gameplay portion. I enjoy playing it, but I wouldn't call myself a COD "fan", let alone fanboy.

Is it possible any other Spartans are still alive? IIRC, Jun makes it off Reach alive. Do we know if he is dead?

According to Canon, why were Brutes present in Halo: Reach but not CE?

What did the Datapads in Reach actually mean? Who wrote them?

And a totally speculative one for someone who understands the story better than I:
Do you think the Covenant will be not just fought off but actually defeated at the end of the Halo series (as it is clearly going to carry on) and if so, to what extent? As pure speculation, if they do destroy the Covenant do you think the Humans will just break up the Covenant or use the Halos to actually completely destroy them?

Off the top of my head, the known Spartans that are still living as far as we know are:

John (II): last seen getting pulled into legendary planet with cortana
Kelly (II) : in Onyx's dyson sphere
Linda (II): same as kelly
Fred (II): same as kelly and linda
Lucy (III, beta company): Same as above
Tom (III, beta): same
Mark(III, Gamma): same
Olivia (III, gamma): same
Jun (III, Alpha, Noble): unknown
Rosenda: (III, unkown, Noble): unkown.
Gray team (II): Unkown
Black team (II): unkown
[/spoilers]

As for brutes: There were no brutes in the ships that were sent after the PoA at Halo, or they weren't sent out on the surface, due to Elites not trusting them.

The datapads? As best we can tell, they were made by a group of joined AIs that manuplated the UNSC for a few hundred years. See here for more details: http://www.forwarduntodawn.com/triumvirate-see-no-evil/

The Elites most likely became neutrally aligned with humanity, sharing a very limited amount of tech, and contued to try to hunt down brutes.

The jackels probably ran off as soon as they saw they were losing, some returning to their moon homeworld Eayn (Interesting note: while Eayn is fictional, the planet it orbits is not, it exists in real life, and is actually a potential planet for lie, fancy that?), some trading supplies with humanity (they are a capitalistic race, they already have done so in the past), most returning to their old ways as pirates.

Grunts most likely returned back to their home planet, while a very small amount would probably keep in touch with humans, they have expressed intrest in human culture before.

The drones and hunters would almost without a doubt just go back home.

The brutes would just splinter off into warring tribes, some would try to maintain control over whats left of the covenant.

engineers would stay whoever they were with at the time, if any prophets are still alive, they will be hunted down by elites.

The UNSC has no reason to hunt any down, they are barely functioning, and would rather make peace with them then anything.

The Halo's cannot be used to target a certain area or group of people, it'd be like trying to wife out a ameobea by nuking a zoo.

I've heard that the combat was lacking because of the regenerating health and limited weapons.

regernerating health
Well speaking from a develpors point of view it's much easier on actually making the game because you how much health the player will have at that paticular point in the game.

It couldve been more varied haveing the sheild not work(insert reason here) and not take as much damage or regernerate much slower and it wouldn't have been to much harder to do that.

weapons
The limited weapons i liked alot because it meant i had to think *what will i encounter next will it be jackal snipers and therefore i should take the battle rifle or will it be grunts and a couple of brutes and i should take a machine gun and a shotgun* That i liked about halo.

Yeah unlimited weapons are fun but your mostly just going to be using the most newly acquired gun because the floating eyeballs are alot tougher to kill with a crappy pistol but with this BFG it's a walk done easy street.

My main question is this:
Can we PLEASE have a Halo game centered on the stories of the Covenant?
We've done Spartans, we've done marines and we've done ODST's. We've even done civilians damn it, the Arbiter was a great addition to the series, I thought, and it saddens me that since then the Covenant hasn't gotten much involvement.

I mean they ARE one of the key players in the series. And it's not like there isn't the potential for great storytelling here. The Covenant is a galactic crusade and they conquor every race they come into contact with. There is an complex belief system as well as racial castes to go with as themes for stories, not to mention with the way they talk and behave and the way their dialogue is written... god you could stage it to be like a Greek legend but set in space.

I guess what I'm saying is, there is potential. A LOT of untapped potential, I know there would be difficulty selling it because the Spartan is iconic but let's face it, Halo fans are nothing if not dedicated. You make it, they WILL buy it.

I just wish we could try something new, here we are with a huge expansive universe, with so many themes and references to mythology and the potential for so many great stories... but we refuse to do ANYTHING with them unless they somehow involve Spartans.

Give the Sangheili a turn for once.

Sorry this took so long, i've had a busy week.

I too would like a ODST styled game where you play as memebers of the Covenant. Bungie stated they wanted to make them seem more fearsome for reach, and less "human", but I think theres a chance with 343.

Not really a question, more of statment, but...

I DO like the idea of having the armor's shield function be disabled for a level or so, would make a nice change of pace. Perhaps in Halo 4.

Unlimited weapons wouldn't work with the Halo series because, as surprising as it may seem, Halo sticks to realism quite a bit. Not one thing in the universe is technically impossible.

I do dislike the fact that they tried to make the Covenant fearsome again. I mean, sure, it made sense for that one game because Reach was a major defeat and a dark chapter in human history so it makes sense to make the Covenant fearsome and 'alien'.

My issue though is whether or not 343 will decide to just continue with that or at least try going the sympathetic route again. Given all the effort of characterization and empathy put into the Covenant (especially the Sangheili) it would be disapointing to see them get turned back into generic evil aliens.

Then again, 343 made 'The Return' so I suppose there's hope that they haven't forgotten that aliens are people too.

Indeed.

I really want to see more of the post-halo 3 universe, so i'm keeping my eye out on the ghosts on onyx squeal and halo 4.
