Why with all the 'girl' threads?
I'm pretty angry at the last one, seems there are fools wherever you go.

I did find it interesting how we're always referred to as 'girls' but the males are 'guys' and not boys. Nilcypher gets many awesome points for being one of very few people I've noticed to refer to us as 'ladies'.

You get lady when you decide to be subservient to males otherwise blame the womens liberation movement.

Male gamers see the idealised forms of feminine beauty in videogames and demand that same level of quality in the real world, add to this raging teenage hormones and male gamers want hawt chicks nao! They also want the female to share similar interests not realising the paradox they are setting up for themselves. Female gamers like male gamers exchange time for exercise, hygiene and healthy eating for videogames; this obviously leads to imperfections on both sides and means that neither can cross the void of difference to find sweaty gaming love.
We could scapegoat the industry for making perfectly sculpted characters in the first place but we would be naive to expect that teenage boys would demand less. Just as we would be naive to expect that teenage girls want less than a two dimensional vampire that sparkles in sunlight.

Nintedogirl is dead wrong; no matter what flavour of beer goggles you wear, not all women are born equal and Disney calling small ugly children princess will not change this fact.

First of all, no, you used to get 'lady' in that context, now it is merely another term for a woman, laden with a deal more respect than 'girl'.

And there is beauty in everyone. It is simply that you refuse to see it. You might call someone ugly, but not everyone else will. More importantly, perhaps people should spend less time worrying about appearances.

Lady has certain connotations that no matter how you use it in slang, can't be changed. It is a term used for women of prominence and elderly women not for women in general and it is certainly not on the same level of respect as calling a man, guy. Either accept equality and be called woman or I will have to demand that you call all men, gentlemen.

Beauty is subjective but that is no excuse to blur the lines of what is physically attractive and what is not. There would be no modelling agencies if anyone could turn up and demand to be a model because they have their own beauty, industry standards demand models of clean flawless skin, tall, thin/muscular and young. I agree that too much emphasis is placed on looks but when judging a person looks are the first sign of who that person is, call it shallow but I call it instinct.

Pah, these people only say such things to justify their lack of companionship. It's far easier to say "I'm single because no pretty girls like what I like" then "I'm single because I'm an overbearing dickhead"

no technically the second one is the same number of syllables but fewer words. sorry, ill go kill myself now.

I'm still going to disagree with you. I do not think that the connotation is still there, although it would depend on where you are from I imagine. I do refer to men as gentlemen in conversation, rather than guys anyway, so perhaps it is merely my archaic forms of expression. Perhaps some else could give an opinion on this.

I was saying that beauty is subjective and you came back with the reference of modelling. Firstly models are only passed on criteria deemed attractive in certain cultures, and I don't know about you, but there are very few men I have met who actually find models, in general, attractive.
We are conditioned to like certain features, symmetry, size, shape, and all these are on a checklist for modelling agencies. Most people, that I know at least, find the women who have all these criteria to seem alien and unattractive.

Some peoples stupidity is just amusing to me. It's quite clear that they've never had any female contact anyway. They were probably just pissed off because some girl beat them at Quake or something.

...Well thank you Internet, thank you for reminding me that I'm a mannish social reject who spends all her time drawing fairies, I chose tutors over public school so I could get away from that lonely lifestyle. ;_____;

I don't care which gender plays games or looks better, but I wish people would stop picking on the gender which, in their opinion, sucks more at games/is as ugly as sin, which always seems to be girls. Woe is me and such.
I agree with you. A lot of men will condescend on women in the online world. But take comfort in the fact that most of those men wouldn't even open their mouth if you were standing in front of them.

And personally, I find hardcore gamer chicks to be very attractive (in a non physical way). To me my perfect girlfriend is one who can beat me at Quake III Arena. :p

If only half the population on XBL presumed I had a 99% chance of being ugly they would cease the sexist jokes, squint their eyes until my name looked like MrShotallofyou and treat me (and every other female gamer)like everyone else...
One can dream, can they not?

I thought that ladies like to be called girls, simply because they like to have their age underestimated. Be that as it may, I usually refer to the female gender as such because of the fact that girl is shorter :p.

On the subject though, it is the environment a person is grown up in that makes a person like video games or not. In my case (I'm freshly 18) it's been the fact that I've had a computer practically since I was born, and my parents deemed virtual games to be a good past-time for me. A good idea in my opinion. After a while I was a bit of a little gaming maniac, and it took my brothers to get me to learn how to stop once I got into a game.

Now then, I am male, but it seems like the same thing applies with ladies as well. There is the usual stigmata that girls must not be gamers, as "games are for geeks", and being a geek is not desirable. That is utterly incorrect in this day and age, as games are practically everywhere, rather than the mario day of old. It's just that girls are taught that way: IMing with their friends is more fun than shooting their brains out.

Not being unilateral here, there are many gentlemen that don't have video games to the heart. Most of them see them as a loss of time, which they practically are. So let's not be harsh on the ladies, because doing that would mean being harsh on your own gender as well as intellect.

I must say, I do like my hair. A lot.

As long as it's on my head, not anywhere else. .. oh wait, TMI. Ha, too late!

So when are we going to get this misconception out of the world? Girls that play games do exist. They play FPS games, visit forums (like this one), play RTS games.. well, anything really. Not just MMOs and The Sims. And My Little Pony or whatever.

And in my opinion, because I speak from my own experience, the reason that girls aren't "known" to be gaming? Because teenage little kids will start drooling and harassing the crap out of the girls that play once they realize they're playing with girls. It's one of the main reasons you won't hear girls speak out in public or let others know they are girls (unless they're attention whores and want gifts, or whatever).

You want to find girls online? You can find them in good, mature and active guilds/clans/whatever. Every group I've been in so far has had a fair number of girls (in fact, my msn list is quite full of them).

This is funny, because I just had a discussion with a beautiful lady friend of mine who didn't think she was a gamer.
Then I pointed out she was more hardcore than I was, owning and beating every Mortal Kombat she could afford and playing for extra hours on end for fun.
And she has Guitar Hero, and a Wii.... and recently had to break her addiction of an MMO resource management game.
So I think most people of our generation are gamers, whether they consider themselves such or no.

And my point is further proved because I recently re-befriended an ex of mine and went to her Halloween party, and she being the girly-girl who goes to clubs and gets drunk, got into a small argument with one of her other girly-girlfriends about which was better- WoW or Everquest.
Yeah, most girl-gamers aren't playing the FPS's, but they're pretty attractive anyway.

Ah, the Internet. Intelligence, restraint, sanity, grammar, logic, and basic social skills are all optional on the Internet. And it leads to this. *sigh.*

What I find utterly amazing about the Internet is that despite being filled with crap like this it still manages to be better at identifying genuinely good (flash) games than a lot of real world critics are at identifying good (console) games (or anything, really. I can't tell you how many times I've read amazing book reviews of books that were utter crap). I find it kind of odd how on the same site where you get people posting how much they like a game because of the blood in it, they also manage to identify quality games and rate them higher than badly done, flashy, and bloody ones. It's either a very strange problem or a lot of lurkers. Eh, probably the second one.
