It's actually a very early gun and only the main character has one. The developers have said that it takes a lot of time to aim it for an accurate shot so I'm guessing that to use it to assassinate someone you have to stand around aiming forever, while totally open to someone walking along and spotting you, and that it probably misses from long range, meaning that you have to be close enough that the target or a bodyguard might spot you and ruin the whole attempt. Also, cool people don't use guns, they sneak up and use the hidden blade.

I was under the impression that it was an early pistol. When did gunpowder start being used in the West? Must research that now...

guns in assassins creed just ruins the whole stealth approach in my opinion. The fun of the game is from sneaking, and running in to the kill, but standing at a distance takes that whole strategy out of it

It was stated at E3 that Leonardo da Vinci will be your personal inventor, so of course this technology is feasible.

Here's what I believe will happen with the gauntlet gun (catchy name, isn't it?):
The gun will be an easy kill to just about any enemy, possibly even your assassination targets.
However, it will be INCREDIBLY obvious to everyone around you if you use it, so it won't be a great choice for stealth combat.

So it's still a balanced weapon. Great for killing, but not a wise choice for stealth assassinations.

So you never used the throwing knives?

It was a bracer with a barrel and a firing mechanism. It may come to some of you as a suprise but during this period in history, the firearm was actually seeing more and more use. It took a very short time to teach John The Peasant to use a gunpowder weapon, compared with the years of training it took to teach Simon the Squire to use a lance on horseback.

Either way, by this period in history, the flintlock and the more expensive and less widespread wheel lock were used throughout the enlightened world. People were incorperating flintlock and wheel lock mechanisms into every day items. I once saw a warhammer with four barrels in the head and a firing mechanism. If you hit someone with it you could trigger four barrels of shot. Nasty and messy.

The repeater firearm did exist as early as the mid 1500's. It had a rotating magazine in the stock. Of course this took awhile to reload and the device was prone to malfunction, not to mention the rather expensive nature of construction. This is why it was never adopted by the various militaries.

In short, it is feasable and probable of a bracer mounted bullet firer. It probably takes along time to reload, while the accuracy would be about as good as a blind man throwing rocks at a small cat. But it makes a loud sound and close up could have the element of suprise.

/end lecture.

I doubt it will be any more gamne breaking than the throwing knives were. I will possibly be worse because of the noise and smoke. Remember these are pre-rifling firearms, they are not terribly accurate.

Have you seen the actual gameplay of the gun though? What happens is when you use it, a line appear's from Ezio to the target, the thinner the line gets, the more of the chance it will hit the target. Maybe's there's even a reload time.

how come everyones saying guns? its one GUN, its on his wrist, and itll be itll be hell trying to reload it, so you'll probaly gonna only be able to use it once in a while, so you probably want to save it for certain situations, and its gonna be during da Vincis time period, so its not random, so idk why people are bitching, i thing its gonna be neat

While guns without silencers aren't exactly stealthy, you got to consider that it takes place in Renaissance Italy, and that Ezio is friends with Da Vinchi. It was a prototype, so I doubt people back then knows what a gun is, or what it sounds like.

They'll probably think it's thunder.

But still, IT"S A FUCKING HIDDEN GUN!
Even so, on a perfectly clear day, you hear a loud, rumbling bang to your right and you immediately go to investigate it. It would be nifty if you could shoot from far, far away so that the guard will be more alerted by the noise of the bullet hitting the wall behind him that by the sound of the shot.

all of ezios weapons r made for him by da vinchi so of couse there gonna be a bit more high tech than others also his gun could have worked like this when he pulls the triger it hits a thin metal wall inside the gun witch ignites the powder(some gun powers can be light by sudden hit aka the triger being pulled hiting the metal wall inside the gun) the small projectile is lanched at a fast speed and might have a rang from 15-20feet also guns have been around scine the 1200 the chines discoverd black power and first used it for fireworks then later used it in cannons and by the 1300hundered u had guns, assassins creed 2 takes plase in thr later 15 century also in the e3 demo they showed the gun in the game

Yeah, the existence of a gun in AC2 will no doubt function more like a more powerful but slower-firing version of the throwing knives from the first game. This game is not about to turn into a shooter.

I reckon it'll add a nice layer to the game, and it is an early musket pistol so that probably balances that out right there.

it's the hidden gun, it's one of davinchi's inventions that goes under his arm like the blade does. I saw some gameplay footage with him using it a while back, I'll try to find it and add it in here as an edit. It didn't look like anything game breaking. He just sort of stood still and this narrow blue laser pointer line showed its trajectory and then he shot the dude with it. The process took about a second to prepare the bullet, and I'm not sure how much ammo it has. I think it's just there to replace the throwing knives. Plus it's one of davinchi's "inventions" so ezio probably will be the only person who has a gun.

Edit: SHAZAM

Assassin's Creed 1 is so unfun I hated it. It's the most repetitive piece of boring ever made. If you so much as bat an eyelid near a guard they flip the fuck out. GOD I HATE THIS GAME.

How do you explain the loud BANG in the trailer then? Since when does a "mechanised sling" use gunpowder?

BTW the assassin's name is Ezio I think
enzio
No... it's Ezio (Auditore di Firenze).

Sorry.
