Guns?

I'm out.

I think guns ruined all the interesting part of war.

"Stand, Aim, and JUST SHOOT!"

Before guns it was interesting because it was parrying, striking, countering...etc..
You're thinking of fencing, which was a sport for nobles back then. Real warfare involved massive broadswords, where you relied as much on the sheer mass of the weapon, if not more, than the deftness or sharpness of the blade. So swords were basically used as big pointy clubs.

Movies often get this wrong, but a bunch of guys wildly swinging swords around like so many large sticks is less thrilling than skillful swordplay.

It could be like the throwing knives though. Wait.... Throwing knives in Assassin's Creed were much more of a discreet way to kill. It's a pistol, but I reckon the ammunition is going to be pretty scarce.

OR.

It could propel knives. We don't see knives lodged in the guy's chest or neck, so I could be wrong. The bang is probably gunpowder to propel the knives further. Again, I could be wrong.

God I love it when trailers are discussed.... :D

Oh...yes...sorry about that. But I still think wars without guns are more interesting, with the exception of WW2, maybe.

Guns took a very long time to reload back then and I imagine using it will bring all kinds of hell down upon you, so it's probably a weapon of last resort, a literal ace up your sleeve.
*cough* Ace ON your sleeve *cough*
Die.

....;)

Anyway, the OP gave me the impression that he thought it's going to be a near-third-person shooter with guns being a major gameplay mechanic. I highly doubt that...most of the guards won't have guns, as the technology was rather large in size and pretty unreliable. Ezio's gun is more like the equivalent of a derringer...a weapon for use in dire circumstances, and designed to scare an opponent off or be good enough for one or MAYBE two shots. Sort of like a counterpart to the hidden blade...the Assassin is not as unarmed as you think. :)
Haha, just had to.

I'm sure you know i wasn't saying that, im just hoping you don't get like 15 bullets, and a single shot could take down a target, etc.

I'm also hoping its balanced, max it to have 3 shots, triple action at like final level, but you have to visit Da Vinchi to reload, and its only good for a single person each shot, can't be used on proper targets just guards and other targets (just not important ones), just like with the daggers from AC1, aim and fire.

It does not have guns.
The Assassin (can't remember how to spell his name)launches propelled blades from some sort of mechanised sling attached to his gauntlet.
How do you explain the loud BANG in the trailer then? Since when does a "mechanised sling" use gunpowder?

BTW the assassin's name is Ezio I think
enzio
Haha, Ezio = The hat from Zelda: The Minish Cap

Can anyone give me the time era that this game takes place in?
I'm pretty sure the game takes place in the late 1400s, but I'm not sure exactly when. I think it gives an exact date in one of the teaser trailers, though.

Actually I think it was somewhere in the 17th century.

Its during Da Vinchi's life time, and he died 1519 he was 67, sooo, he lived between 1452 and 1519, so it must be in the very late 1400, and also during the Renaissance so, yeah 1400s, can't be 17th century.

I would like to note that during the Renaissance period, guns evolved from Matchlock to Wheellock towards Flintlock.
A wheellock PISTOL (They existed) would be something akin to a cigarette lighter (save, bigger) The technology is completely plausible for that time period.

Second, I think the biggest advantage of having a gun would be to scare off crowds in some circumstances. As well as that medium range assassination showed in the trailer.

(Too Long; Didn't Read Version)
Pistols existed back then.

Pistols would be a fun gameplay mechanic.
That thing about scaring off crowds is a very good point, I wouldn't have thought of that...

It says 1486 in the trailer I'm pretty sure.

*Captain Obvious appears!*

So we know Da Vinchi is 34 at this point in time. When you think about it, he lived a very long time for someone in that time period.

At the end it was a huge cliff hanger, not to mention with "the bleeding effect" and other side plots, so obviously, im guessing the story is also going to be awesome.
As long as it doesn't contain another 'cliffhanger', I'm pretty much happy with everything.
Don't worry, it will. I'm guessing the inevitable third one will be set in the "present", i.e., the time where Desmond is in the machine.

I agree with you completely, thats a good quality first post you have there!

Nice to see a user that hasn't been spawned from the depths of 4chan for once.

Welcome to the escapist :)
I do agree with Garg's statment, and not all of use are from 4chan.

I think it's just a one shot deal, it's not like it's a machine gun. Think of it like those times you killed one of the mob with a throwing knife, only with a bang and some smoke. Melee weapons will still be the main focus. That's my hypothesis anyway.

Agreed, like also the fact they added disarming the enemy with the fact most weapons have to be acquired through disarm.

Though personally i love the little hidden dagger, im going to perfect the counter-kill attack with the assassins dagger, its quite entertaining to watch someone get killed with such a small little weapon.

Also finally, im hoping they do have the guards chasing you down, on the rooftops, BUT also they can fail and fall to there death.

Plus, if you're really in the mood for a challange, try killing in combat with nothing but Hidden Blade counters after you've unlocked counterattacks. Seriously, I think I've pulled one or two off, on purpose, ever. I mostly just threw 'im down and stabbed 'im.
I played through the whole game using just my Hidden Blade :p

Once you learn to do the counter, it's actually the fastest way to kill people.

You have to counter them (or notice when they taunt you or cower.. you can Assassinate them if they do, without countering), but once you learn to do that well, EVERY SINGLE HIT is a kill.. my first time through the game, huge melees were a pain in the ass.. I'd counter, and knock a guy down, then another guy would get in front of me and I'd have to fight him.. I wasn't able to effectively concentrate on a single enemy.

With just the HIdden Blade, that's not an issue.

actually, wars were won back then by their shields, not their weapons. (well, ultimately the weapons won the fight, but the shields won the battle.).. an army that had an advanced shield technology was the one that had the advantage.

I doubt you'll be able to use it the whole game.
Yeah, i can see it as a unlockable, like half way through the game, its necessary for a certain assassination.
