Goddamn it, can someone explain to me what's so great about Bioshock's story? It was good, but fuck, it wasn't that good.
If you've played the game and still don't get it, then no amount of explanation on my part is going to get you there.

I don't know about "game of the decade", but I'm not surprised that it was in the running.

Fuck all this, you can kill the Pope?
You can't kill the Pope. At least not in AC2. Alexander VI died from poisoning, I think in 1503? That death may well be worked into the story of Brotherhood. You give him a beating at the end of AC2 but let him live. Hence the repercussions in Brotherhood.

It's not at all about Scientology. It's an original idea with no premise of being fact. The idea is that the Gods are merely a different species who cohabit Earth with humanity. They no longer exist in their original form on Earth (but there are a select few "demi-Gods" around who have be borne of cross-breeding) which runs contrary to Scientology's "beliefs". I think you're missing out on a great game if you skip this, but each to their own.

I always thought Assassin's Creed would be much better if they would cut the whole future/animus stuff out and just leave us to jumping the roofs of cities in the past, but i guess they wanted a 'coherent' story instead just random fun.
With hat said however, i didn't mind the whole back story, i just ignored it halfway through, did the puzzles only as puzzles and not as part of what was going on and went to make myself another cup of coffee during the whole alien revelation thing.
Yeah, the whole 'animus' and 'future' just allows them to narrative tie the series of games together into something more coherent than, first you're this guy, go kill people. now you're this guy, go kill more people.

You got to beat the shit out of the pope... I can never complain about the end of that game.
Here here! A game where the final boss is a BARE KNUCKLE BRAWL TO THE DEATH WITH THE POPE, has to be amazing. Also i found the story massively mindfuck. It was comparable but not really as good as the "would you kindly" mindfuck.

I just wish that the end of the game didn't have the Desmond vs Templars bit, just so that the last line in the game would be "What the fuck?"
I would just simply say this.

But, if you play the other Assassins Creed (handhelds as well) you'll find that the shiney person at the end was there before Jesus and that they didn't make humans, but the pieces of eden.

And the human from ape thing was an obvious nod to evolution.

Understandable, though I should point out that there is a very clear story progression in AC2. Far more coherent than in the first game. There are side missions and puzzles you can do (and the dungeons are highly-recommended) but the missions are very linear and structured.

...They weren't aliens, they are sentient beings that came before humans and created humans in their image as a slave force. We rebelled and won.

eagle vision is rarely, if ever, presented as anything special. At it's absolute height of "super humanness", it allowed Blandy McBlanderson to see messages smeared on a wall... that he'd been staring at for a week.

Thus, the argument assassin's are special has to be rooted in the idea that everyone else in the world is half-blind and crippled.

I think It's more to do with the fact that if he wasn't Ezio's ancestor he wouldn't have picked up on the traits as easily. I've read up on some of this though and about the Adam and Eve part.
Theres also no real evidence altair/ezio/blandy learned anything faster than anyone. And Blandy McBlanderson did have two lifetime's worth of memories slammed into his mind in a couple weeks so nothing real superhuman there, either. Subject 19 being driven crazy further cements the idea that theres nothing special about "assassins."

All that definitely wasn't revealed in the game lol...
It was inferred. Strongly. Mostly by that one quote of the guy being sickened by the reality of humanity's origin. Hell, humans were likely originally sterile, as well. Since the story is, mostly, genesis.

Its also spelled out that every big advancement in human capacity was a result of "templars" getting a hold of pieces of eden, every stretch of "dark age" was when assassin's had control of, or simply hid them.

But they're no doubt going to switch back to the templars being right, that everything they did was an effort to avert an apocalypse or, at least, push technology to a point where humanity could survive it.

Hell, they might even go full on bullshit hack sci-fi and have the templars make a time loop.

Seriously Valve is your go to guy for a good plot?

Okay they at no point say they are aliens they establish that the woman talking at the end is a diety - in fact she is multiple dieties from various religons due to misinterpretation. "Those that came before" does not mean alien, just that they came before humans.

They don't just throw Ezio out the way they show how his work is important in the present time and show how everything was forseen by the gods.

The ending is not meant to make complete sense yet because the series was always going to be designed as a trilogy - you are meant to play on if you want to find out the truth.

Also it's a series thick on conspiracy theories and other phenomenon are you really surprised an ending like that came up?

Meh, to each his own. I really enjoyed the game, and though that it had a pretty good story. I didn't mind the ending, and actually I thought it was quite cool.

Bioshock didn't have an amazing storyline, it was just another FPS but set in a very interesting setting with some cool characters and nothing more.

The Assassin's Creed series has always been about the future and the past, Desmond has always been the focus of the series. I knew from a little ways through the first game that there'd be some sort of connection to an outside force.....Altair and the Piece of Eden, clearly said to me, hey, chances are that this isn't just a history game where Desmond becomes an assassin. He does become one, yes. However, you should've figured out if you played AC1 that there'd be an outside force connection.

The story behind the Assassin's Creed series is probably one of the more unique stories I've seen in the last little while to be honest.

You know the whole aliens made humans is the basis for many cults and has appeared in alot of sci-fi.

Any how I joked to one of friends "huh I but AC2 is really all about aliens, just like in that cult you nearly joined" (yes my friend nearly did join an alien worshipping cult)

Then when I finished AC2 "oh sh*t I was right" followed by insulting whoever wrote the story and rageing on the internet

Is this a joke? I've never witnessed a worse story in a game...
Most modern warfare games in the past two years. "What if Russia shot their nukes?!!!" horrible story, in which only America attacks Russia, ensues.

OT: I disagree with you entirely. I loved 'The Truth' so much at the end of the game, it was a lovely little follow on that they made so they can make a prequel. I want Assassins Creed 3 to be about that. I loved the whole we came before, you beat us back story too, it just perfectly resembles the human race; whatever made us, whether it be evolution, aliens or a Deity, we will always fight for freedom and independence... then fall right back into it all.

But, we all have our own opinions.

Anyway, I want AC3 either set in the Garden of Eden, modern day (although I'm very hesitant of this one) or in World War 1. I think a new way of blowing people up, sniping them out or jumping on them would be rather awesome, Franz Ferdinand's assassination would have too be in there though, maybe as the tutorial.
