Say what? Thats an anti-theist argument? I always found that little conflict to be manufactured by young earth creationists. Even the Vatican admits that evolution is not in conflict with God.[/quote]caross73 said:Also, evolution has nothing to do with the existence, or non existence, of God. That's a lovely little argument trap anti-theists like to try lure the argument towards so they can appear more educated.
Also keep in mind evolution only talks about origin of species, not the origin of life. That is called 'abiogenesis' and is completely unproven.
Ah ah ah, I never said it couldn't eventually be proven. I was merely pointing out how it hasn't been proven. I point it out, because I often hear a lot of 'You can't prove God!' and I simply reply 'You can't prove origin of life!'. Both are unprovable, at this point, yet it's silly, to some, to believe in one yet not the other.Cheeze_Pavilion said:It might be completely unproven, but, anyone who accepts the rest of science and then balks at the idea that science will explain the origin of life someday has clearly switched off their reason and started arguing with their faith.Baby Tea said:Also keep in mind evolution only talks about origin of species, not the origin of life. One can't have confidence in science which has kept on explaining the things we see in biology and then lose confidence just as it gets to explaining something like the origin of life. When people do that, it's because they believe in a 'god of the gaps' where they want to keep some kind of gap open in science that they can fill with god.

Athiest vs Athiest
Nobody can or will win!
If you really don't believe, then it doesn't matter at ALL what a believer says. So there really is no need to belittle it is there?caross73 said:If you really believe, then it doesn't matter at ALL what a nonbeliever says. You need another history lesson? There have been a few. I think Lincoln and Jefferson were atheists weren't they?caross73 said:Call me when we have an atheist president.
I wasn't quoting the entire text to save space, and must have accidentally removed an extra set of quote brackets. Sorry.Machines Are Us said:May I ask why you changed the quotations to say my name? I never said that. I believe it was Cuddly Tomato.
No, it damn well does matter when they are legislating based on their sky father mythology. I don't have any afterlife to console me about this life's tribulations. This one is all I've got and its very important to me.cuddly_tomato said:If you really don't believe, then it doesn't matter at ALL what a believer says. I think I would have heard about that. I suspect they were deists who did lip service to Christianity in order to get elected. I know full well that no admitted atheist, even if he was a perfect candidate, would EVER get through the primaries, let alone the Presidency in the current climate, while guys like you lecture me on anti-theistic bigotry. You need another history lesson? For the record, Lincoln was an atheist and very vocal about it considering the times. Jefferson was a deist I think, though.caross73 said:No, it damn well does matter when they are legislating based on their sky father mythology. Yes, that is atheism. One doesn't have to attack, hate, or pour scorn onto religion in order to be an atheist.caross73 said:Check out the link, Lincoln went to a Presbyterian church when in office.
"That I am not a member of any Christian church is true; but I have never denied the truth of the Scriptures; and I have never spoken with intentional disrespect of religion in general, or of any denomination of Christians in particular... I do not think I could myself be brought to support a man for office whom I knew to be an open enemy of, or scoffer at, religion."

You are incorrect, sir. An atheist does deny the truth of the Scriptures.cuddly_tomato said:Yes, that is atheism. One doesn't have to attack, hate, or pour scorn onto religion in order to be an atheist.caross73 said:Check out the link, Lincoln went to a Presbyterian church when in office.

Yeah, you've obviously thought about this way more than me. What was He going to do then?Cheeze_Pavilion said:False dilemma. Don't explain it at all, in any depth beyond what's necessary--just say 'hey, I'm God, and I caused all this to be in some way--it's not important how' and then start in with the 'I love you, don't eat pork' stuff.
