You know I watch alot of anime, from the grim to the cheery, and I got to say that Attack on Titan is interesting. The time setting is a nice mix of steam punk and medieval themes clashed together. The onslaught of these giant monsters that render a lot of the characters to feel hopeless, sure I got to say that the art styling of the titans(not that they look hilarious) look short from the rest of the anime itself. you have high def characters, back grounds, and equipment, but you have low resolution titans.

Someone mentioned this in a thread a bit ago and it got me intrigued. I don't really watch anime, apart from a few of the more popular films (studio ghibli, Akira etc.), and pokemon when I was a kidm but the concept of this sounds interesting. I may give it a shot.

Not sure about this one. I don't think it's really my style, I always had a bit of a cringe when watching anime's where they have an excuse to throw out giant fights for no reason because the writers get lazy.

If you really want to, read the original manga instead. It is infinity better (despite rougher artwork)and it has lots of trivia information regarding the world itself.
Here is a link for the manga.

Attack On Titan is ok. The story is basically 'War of The Worlds + Valkyria Chronicles + Predator' and it does that well and is pretty original. So far there have been some very potent moments but it feels lacking, Eren is a really unlikeable main character and pretty much every other character is canon fodder. Also I have a bad feeling that it is going to go into 'ass-pull' territory very soon with shit like 'the world is actually a giant Titan' 'the city is made out of Titans' but I dunno. It did give us this gem though:

I have higher hopes for it than that. They haven't given any indication of it becoming bullshitty yet. I can understand why you don't like Eren, pretty much his entire character so far is rage personified, but he seems like an appropriate person for the world he lives in. I'm not sure how they are gonna resolve his current... 'arc' without some kind of deus ex machina, though. At this point, the direction they take would make or break the series.

I've read the whole manga. And what he said about.
'the city is made out of Titans'
Is actually (literally) true.

Actually, yesterday's episode is when the bullshit starts to get its introduction.

Since you've read the whole manga, would you recommend the anime? Is it worth sticking with it?

I like it but the writing is pretty mediocre. I still read it for the interesting world, but I must say Eren is a pretty bland protagonist.

I haven't seen any of the anime, but I can definitely say the manga is worth sticking with.

What with all of the major Titan attacks (the Colossal and Armored titan) were just part of conspiracy to kidnap Eren and get him outside the Walls.

Can't wait to see how the intelligent ape-titan figures into this. :)

So many people here complaining about Eren, which tells me So many people here need to see episode 5.
That is all I will say.

Nothing wrong with it. We're finally starting to get a bit of an explanation for everything, I hope. I just feels like the story tries too hard with its many twists, and bullshit powers. It's just a letdown, because I really liked it in the beginning.

The manga is still ongoing, and has been for a few years now.

Like Hannibal said. I like the world, but the writing is just ok. Eren is pretty much just a plot device at this point.

It depends on what you like. The upcoming episodes are probably going to give you a glimpse of how it will end up like.

Decided to give the manga a read and hey, it turns retarded.
Great.

I was looking forward to seeing this be a good, enjoyable, but dark and non-standard anything. What a shame.

It's okay, I cannot give it a higher grade due to the fact that this anime was made with everything going for it, the manga was a stellar example of character development done right that when the anime for it was greenlit, it was clear as day that they'd have to be inept or outright retarded if they screw this adaptation up, and it's clear with how much budget went to the the soundtrack and animation that they were aware of this.

Again, I think it's okay, but please don't call it the best because it's clearly no LoGH nor call it great when original anime with intriguing plot such as Suisei no Gargantia exists.

I personally kinda like the twists that others have been complaining about, but then again if experience has taught me anything it's that my opinion and the general opinion of the Escapist tend to clash.

I'm really enjoying it. I haven't read the manga so I can't say how it compares to that (although reading the manga as it's airing kinda ruins the experience for me), but so far I like it. I like how bleak, unrelenting, and unpredictable it is. While there are a lot of interesting ideas and character development, I think people, like me, are mostly enjoying it for the ride, as it is a exhilarating, epic show, and can see why it's becoming a huge hit.

It's only my second favorite of the season, though. First being Aku no Hana.

Yeah, I said it.

I am also enjoying the anime so far. I have not read the manga, but will probably go back and do so once some of the plot twists are out. Things have been bleak and almost soul-crushing up through ep. 5, which gives me hope that it will be more Blue Gender and less DBZ. (By that comparison, I mean more bleak character development and less 'zomg, look at my new powers'.)

It's retarded, but compared to the usual fare of manga that's out in Shounen Jump right now, you can't blame the masses for thinking this anime is a blast of fresh air.

I was thinking so too until the plot twist that'll probably be coming in... an episode or two, I suppose.
Shame, it had some real potential. Looks like it's going to be wasting it and becoming just another standard anime.
