I wasn't reading right and for a second I thought it said "And will not recontest the seat of Cybertron in 2014"

Gentlemen!Radelaide said:Not just yet. There are still AG's oppose an R18+ rating, just not as vocally. And he's not retiring until 2014. So, barring he doesn't have a heart attack or something else that makes him retire prematurely, we still don't have a snowflake's chance in hell of getting an R18+ rating for at least 4 years.Hothcliff said:Bwuh?!?
EDIT: Thats pretty huge news. Congrats, my Aussie brethren. your ordeal is finally over
Now now don't fret there is always a possibility that his replacement will e an even more out and out geek hater. Remember things always get worse and rarely betterSnootyEnglishman said:*blinks* oh my god is the gaming oppression finally over in australia?

You can feel embarassed about it still if you really want. The Premier was beaten with a wine magazine after all. And why is it Australian politicians never get accused of having affairs with attractive people?OmegaCheese said:I can now not feel embarresed about living in south Australia! HOOORRRAAAYYY!!!!!
At the moment it looks like Labor by a 1 seat majority... of course, Atkinson wouldn't be talking about 'stepping down' from being AG if the liberals had won because he'd just flat out not have the job anymore anyway.btw who won, liberals or labor?
Dude. That's AWESOME!SamFancyPants252 said:He will retire when I turn 18.
FUCKING WIN!
That would make sense except that he's stepping down from the position that gave him the power to veto the R18 classification now and retiring from parliament in 4 years.XJ-0461 said:He's retiring in 4 YEARS. That's plenty of time for him to stop the R18+ rating stopped, and it won't matter how unpopular he is, because he won't get voted out, as he's going anyway.
My screen is smudged now...The Warden said:
It's almost certainly factional maneuvering rather than party maneuvering. It looks like the ALP Right have figured it will cost them too much in the factional squabble that is the caucus, where all the cabinet positions are decided, to push for retaining Atkinson as AG. Any other cabinet position would rightly be seen as pushing him to the side he's decided to jump before he was pushed.Major Tom said:I'm guessing there's some maneuvering being done by the party here, some sort of face saving deal done, having him stand down rather than dismissed.
Maybe. It's possible that when he finally retires he'll be receiving a payout for being a sitting member for around 25 years, a sum which could probably be described to the average Aussie citizen as 'obscene', helped that decision as well. Then again, the man could just be tired of politics.
