They should just drop them off in America. I think we could use some camels.

Or maybe make it a free game fest. And use the meat to feed the poor?
Something helpful like that, maybe?

it usually goes to aboriginal camps..... so yeah feeding the poor
But an air-strike? Wouldn't that leave the camel's corpses to rot and or be riddled with bullets? Not much of a meal I'm thinking. If it were individual kills, it would be less wasted and less shrapnel.

Not that 'wasting' seems to be an issue.

i would like to clear this up. there are no explosives, aerial strafing runs or military involvement. only hunters with rifles and land cruisers and hilux utes.

I dont think they would ever do that, I think our money hungry PM would sooner sell them to the middle east than spend money bombing them

Well if that's the case, it seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. ^^

just to Clarify this i am an Aussie and think that its ok what we are doing and calling my PM a "Serial killer" is a bit harsh

I am also an Australian and I feel exactly the same. Our PM isn't a serial killer. let me ask the people this question, If the Australian PM a serial killer for killing camels, are the Canadians serial killers for murdering baby seals for there fur?

Just because they're the greatest mathematicians on the planet, doesn't mean they get a free ride. Slaughter the damn lot of them.
Wait. What?
You need to read more Discworld novels.

OT: I don't see the problem with this at all. They need to be culled because of their population being an issue for the environment and other species that are actually native. There are rules and limits detailing what can be done so it is all above board.

I believe that bolt-action rifles are still legal in Australia.
(Sighs) This statement can sum up how Americans see our guns laws. An Australian citizen can possess any sort of firearm...as long as they have the appropriate license. But you need an appropriate reason and to undertake firearms safety courses.

The most common license is a A+B, which covers air rifles, .22 rim fires, double barreled shotguns, lever action shotguns, bolt action rifles, pump action rifles and lever action rifles. Hunting or pest control is usually the most common reason for this license.

But if you are a member of a pistol club for at least a year you can get a pistol license, just like you can get a pistol license if your job entails it (security guard etc). So occupational and recreational reasons. Your fingerprints are taken as well I believe.

You can even possess semi-automatic and automatic rifles if you have a good enough reason. God help me I can't think why you'd need one.

You can even get specific collectors licenses, but I don't know much about these, I have however met a man who legally owns a working lewis machine gun (don't ask me how).

This is just the way it works over here, and it does work.

you can own rifles and pistols under normal laws but only for a purpose i.e. hunting, Club, Security work (need Security licence). But not for self defense. Collectors licences are for all Antique and Deactivated Weaponry i.e. a lewis MG or in my case a Austen.

The biggest thing I guess Americans don't understand is that in Australia owning a gun is a privilege not a right.

About time they're killing them, lousy camels lording it over us with their fat stores on their backs, feet designed to stop them sinking in the sand and that damned ability to survive without water for a few days

Yes, clearly airstrikes will help them save the fragile ecosystems.
That's not a stupid and terrible idea at all.
Of course, by 'Airstrike', they mean 'Rifleman in a helicopter' and NOT 'tactical missles'. You see, camels, by definition, are 'Very fast', so shooting them from the ground is next-to-impossible.

The problem is, that Camels are pests, There's really a choice: Get rid of the camels that were introduced and are not native to Australia, or let them run rampant and destroy the natural ecosystem. It's as simple as that. Not only that, but the culled animals are going to be put to good use, the skin, meat, etc. are all being processed and sold. It's not like they're piling them up and burning them (well, not before they've been cut into steaks at least).

But of course, all the wildlife (and by that, I mean the non-Australian tv watchers and internet idiots) see, is "ZOMGOD, THEY'RE KILLING ALL THOSE CUTE HORSY THINGS!".
