Avatar stands on it's own, there's no need for a sequel, especially not this soon.
That's what they said about Star Wars... just saying.

As for the sequel? Easy, the humans come back. Perhaps the corporations convince some nation or other, whoever's in charge, that the resources are worth invading for. After all what you see in the movie is just a mercenary force, not a full fledged military. More conflict, this time on a more global scale and for survival rather than simply land, ensues.

I wouldn't mind seeing more explosions. Say what you will about the plot, but Cameron sure knows how to do an action scene!

Weeeell, wouldn't it have to be about Jake's children/grandchildren, considering the time involved for them to travel back to earth and then to Pandora again. However, I put my faith in Cameron. Also, a Na'vi + a machine gun, how would humans beat that?

Orbital bombardment with high yield thermonuclear or hydrogen (if they are any different) weapons maybe?

But wouldn't that destroy/irridate the unobtanium?

Actually, I think he means the original trilogy.

Which means that then we got The Empire Strikes Back. Which was probably the best of them all!

I mean come on...Hoth.
You are correct, but then, after the original trilogy, the series went downhill so quickly.

Bingo, was referring to the original trilogy.

I prefer to think the... other movies never happened. So when I say Star Wars, I mean A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

Wow... I just walked out of the first one (took a long time to get to my neck of the woods)! I sure hope Cameron doesn't waste his time on a sequel.

Ooh, how about a fusion of Avatar and Cameron's other famous work: Terminator II. Just imagine, the navi are once again peaceful, until suddenly a huge Austrian guy comes along spouting memorable one-liners and annihilating every bloody blue-cat thing he finds...
Ok seriously, why the need for a sequel? The story, which wasn't terribly deep and inspired to begin with, ended quite nicely. There's no need for a sequel, let it be. Cameron should try to work his movie making magic on some other scenario, like...dunno, another sci-fi setting with human colonizing another world, just sans the tree-hugging/blue cat people BS
