I'm bias towards people with My Little Pony avatars because no one has yet to explain to me what all the fuss is about. Till then, it looks ignorant and like a passing meme. Sorry guys.
The search tool sure is a handy invention, isn't it? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/global/search/?cx=005672590579257297818%3Amkmrjhvsnwa&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=UTF-8&q=what%27s+with+My+little+pony&sa=Search&siteurl=www.escapistmagazine.com%2Fglobal%2Fsearch%2F%3Fq%3Dwhat%2527s%2Bwith%2Ball%2Bthe%2Bmy%2Blittle%2Bpony%2Bavatars%26cx%3D005672590579257297818%253Amkmrjhvsnwa%26cof%3DFORID%253A9%26ie%3DUTF-8%26sa.x%3D0%26sa.y%3D0%26sa%3DSearch]

[small](Kinda breaking my own rule.)[/small]
Why would you look in the search bar for something like that? Plus, I still haven't found an answer that said what the fuss was about.

I sure as hell wouldn't.

OT: Don't really have a bias.

I dislike when people change their Avatars every left and right. That's how I remember who they are.

Although it just so happens that all the people who are changing their avatars are changing them to Pony avatars.

Personally, I like both the movie Avatar by James Cameron and the TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender pretty equally. They are both awesome in their own unique ways, and trying to compare and contrast them is like comparing apples to assault rifles. So, no bias preference here.

Oh, you're talking about the avatars people use in forums like this one?

Still no preference. I'm pretty laid back, so I don't really care. Though some people I tend to recognize based purely on their avatars. Or should I say I notice their avatar first then I notice the name? Because that is probably more accurate.

Seriously, I just choose a avatar from the list of available ones. And honestly it was hard. I don't know what kind I would want if I went the custom route either, to be honest.

If I'm going to take the time to read everyone's posts, I'll be more likely to disregard people who don't have avatars. Even if they have been on the Escapist since the start and have half a million comments, the lack of a face to the post makes it so much harder for me to care. When I can think, 'ah ha, Clint Eastwood has made a point,' I'll be more likely to read it. Bizarre and mostly unconscious.

Also, I've noticed that Basil as my avatar seems to be getting me a lot more comments and quotes than when I had Squall from Final Fantasy VIII, which is good. Also, on Facebook I currently have Twilight Sparkle as my picture delibertaely waiting to see how long it takes before someone asks about the picture, and no one has commented or replied or 'liked' any of my comments since I put it up.

Im one of the people who greatly dislikes the MLP avatars...since the majority of the fandom irks me. (Brony? Really? Adding bro to it doesnt make it manly, and Id hope even actual MLP fans can see how dumb that term is)

I may become bias to specific avatars, but that would have to do with the person, though since I ID people by avatar, I could potentially think someone is someone else if they have a similar or teh same avatar.

I've gotten some choice words for my avatar, don't know why.
Really? It's Tyra Banks... being Tyra Banks.

I don't see the issue.

OT: I don't give a rip one way or the other about others' avatars, although I've gotten requests from people to change my various avatars for being "too disturbing". Hmmm.

I can't think of any avatar that immediately makes me dislike people.

People can find avatars through a variety of methods, just because they have an anime avatar doesn't mean they like that anime, or anime in general. They could have just used google image search, saw something cool, cropped it and made it their avatar.

I like the trollface and Y U NO avatars, makes me think of memebase.

I don't have a problem with Pony avatars, but when I see an anime avatar I immediately think "No mater what this person has to say, I now disagree with it."
Can you elaborate? There are a few people I've seen that share your opinion, and I've always been curious about it.

OT: The only thing that I don't really like is when people don't have avatars. It just seems kind of lazy.
That was a joke. -_-

...mostly.

For the record I've actually SEEN a couple episodes of MLP and I think it's better written, better animated, and more mature then most anime. That's probably one reason anime fans are so easily annoyed by pony avatars.
Sorry, I was referring to the remark about anime avatars, not pony avatars. I should have clarified that better.

EDIT: Reading this post has left me confused. Are you saying that you don't like anime avatars? Or that you're completely fine with them?
I don't like anime avatars because I don't like anime, simple as that.

Whenever I see an avatar based on an anime, I usually tend to believe that they're brainless pocky chewing simps, dry humping anything with an improbably large sword that you can make an AMV into with unbelievably emo Nu metal.

While I enjoy the show, I completely agree about the term 'brony'. I refuse to allow a show I watch to alter my vocabulary in non-constructive ways.

I think the best option is to create your own avatar(if possible) so it remains unique to the person using it.

I don't have a bias on people because of their avatars, that's silly. However, I have been "hard to take seriously" because of my avatar.

Boy, it will take a lot more than an internet phenomenon to rouse me into changing this avatar.

I generally try and avoid bias with avatars here on the Escapist. Just because someone happens to like something I like, that doesn't prevent them from being a prick. There are plenty of pricks who like the same things I do. On the other hand, on ConceptArt.org, where almost everyone's avatar is drawn -or otherwise made- by the user, I have a higher tendency to look at people's body of work when their avatar displays significant skill or creativity.

Judging people based off of a 100x100 picture they use on a forum is petty.

Hence why I don't.

It is interesting to see another League of Legends avatar though. Shows how popular the little game is getting.

I'd be extraordinarily surprised if anybrony actually thought that the term was manly. It's merely a convenient and clever label.

I'm biased against threads about how we can claim to know a person's entire personality based on the 100x100 picture they choose to show on an internet forum.
Yes, because that's TOTALLY what this thread is about. >.>

Anyway, I know I tend to give a person more attention if they have a cool avatar or one that really stands out to me. I'm more likely to read their posts, but that's about where the bias ends.

I suppose I do a little bit.

For instance, I saw this guy the other day with some toast for his avatar, totally made the assumption that he enjoys a good bit of toast in the mornings...shame on me.

The only avatars that I don't really like are:
A) Gifs that are really flashy and distracting
B) Pictures that are too small or crowded to see

I have a pony avatar because it is my current favorite thing. However, I HATE THE FANDOM. It descended quickly from "Oh isn't that neat?" to near Sonic fandom levels. I use the term Brony just to fuck with people.
