It seems like 38 year olds on here do think alike.

And no, I don't understand the pony thing either. Here in the UK MLP is a show for primary school girls; why 20-something blokes would profess a love for it is beyond me.
Well for starters there are two things you should be aware of:
1) We're talking about a new MLP series that debuted last year with entirely new everything.
2) The person behind it's creation was Lauren Faust, known for her work on
PowerPuff Girls and
Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends (both also very popular shows).
If you know those things and are still dismissive then all I can suggest is that it pays to keep an open mind. It's a good show. The jokes are funny, the characters are relatable, the references are clever (seriously,
Star Wars,
Star Trek,
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,
Benny Hill,
Alice in Wonderland...and this is only what I noticed, mind you). The team that created it are people our own (well,
your own, actually) age, and they set out to make a show that they themselves could enjoy. Yes it's about pastel equines, but the characters could be human and it wouldn't change anything other than a bit of terminology. The way I see it, true quality is universal. I'm not going to deny myself entertainment just because no one had any idea I'd enjoy it.
