I heard about this years ago, I think it was a joke that was spread around when Political correctness and diversity started to get out of hand.

This story has been banging around for years. My understanding is that the kernel of truth at the centre of it is that a pre-school in England made their own variation of the song that combined the song with learning colours. It was never about being politically correct. The government never made laws about it. Next you'll be telling us that teachers are no longer permitted to use the words 'blackboard' and 'whiteboard'.
And since when did they (you know, Them, the evil PC crew) change the lyrics to Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree?

I think this is utterly ridiculous. I mean, They're gonna change it to Rainbow sheep according to a few sources.

THey changed Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree for using the word gay, and I could understand that. I didn't agree with it, but if a lot of children laugh at you as you sing the song it's understandable.

But seeing racism where there is none is a form of racism in it's self. They are meant to be treated as equals, and acting extremely...extremist...over stuff like this is more causing embarrassment than actual black rights (Which I'm all for).

It's the equivalent of seeing a black guy and saying BLACK. HE'S BLACK. BE NICE TO HIM BECAUSE HE'S BLACK, PEOPLE in my opinion...

So what's your thoughts on this, hmm?

Yes that means YOU, the guy with the glasses.
No they aren't, this is a stupid bullshit rumour and lie that's been made up by the press and conservative media, and has been around since the 80's

Why do people believe the news. Freedom of press= right to tell whatever lie they feel like

I know it's taboo to mention Larry the Cable Guy in a positive light on these forums, but he's got a skit on his old TV show that's very relevant to this thread:
He also did one for Little Red Riding Hood titled Vertically-Challenged Native American Riding Hood.

It's the equivalent of seeing a black guy and thinking "dude, he's human like the rest of us. Maybe I shouldn't be a dick to him just because I can."

Or not even seeing the black guy and thinking "Hmmmm...Just because I can be inconsiderate does not mean I should or have to."

I'm skeptical about this so called change "they" are making, and if true, it's a bit far, but the phrase "black sheep" took on a racial tone ages ago. We also wrote the word "darky" out of many songs in the past, does this offend you?

Right, now I've got your attention.

This story is not true. They are not changing the words to Baa Baa Black Sheep because of perceived racism. In some places they teach a wide variety of words, including black, white, rainbow, several colours, and different emotions. This is in order to add to the learning value, teaching children different words and rhyme schemes in place of the simple one everyone knows.

The story first came about some time in the 80s, when a local newspaper reported it as part of the 'loony left' administration trying to destroy traditional values, the story got picked up by the Daily Mail, famous for their sensationalist journalism, who turned it into a national story. Once it was proved to be false they dropped it.

It's been revived several times over the years, whenever the Daily Mail thinks the regular news is getting boring or when they think the 'loony left' is in danger of taking over. Sometimes it gets picked up by bigger newspapers like the Times, who print it to a wider audience, but then they do their fact checking and quietly drop the story.

It isn't true. Don't be misinformed. Even typing baa baa rainbow sheep into google autcompletes as 'urban myth' 'myth' 'false' or some other variation of untrue. That's how little you need to do to unravel this. Now please stop yelling loudly about a PC attack which doesn't exist.

5 odd years ago, my sisters were being taught to say 'rainbow sheep', as opposed to 'black', at their primary school. The only surprise for me is that this is not widely known, as I assumed it was all those years ago and didn't give it a second thought. IMO, it is over the top, but the list of questionable political corrections is already huge, and is only going to rise. Live and let live.

my 5 year old daughter came home from school singing "rainbow" sheep, I told her its black sheep and she replied that the teacher told her it was "rainbow". Had a word with the teacher and asked her to tell me where in nature does she see a "rainbow" sheep, and a few other words as well...

I'm glad to hear that, if only because if they genuinely changed 'black' to 'rainbow', it would throw off the rhythm of the entire rhyme. That makes me cry a little inside. :c

I have no idea what you're talking about specifically. But that's some pinpointed political-correctness-gone-mad.

Okay, 3 things:
1) Never use google autocorrect as a reference. I once typed "is it" and the complete was "Gas or am I pregnant"
2) It's not a lie, it's been made legislation by a few councils based on racism, maybe not in the situation you're thinking of
3) Quoting all of us just so we'd reply to you is a troll tactic, and normally I wouldn't reply but you're not the only one this is for.

Unfortunately, in several schools and councils, this is still the case. You should still unfortunately be sad.

I have seen first hand cases of Rainbow sheep as apparently as one of the people above me.

It's not a lie, in some cases yes it has been exaggerated, but there is still a Humpty Dumpty was happy again, a "merry" Kookaburra and, of course, a rainbow sheep.

There are cases out there that are wrong, but not all of them, and certainly not enough of them, here in Australia, apparently, and to a lesser extent England.

I was thinking more along the lines of singling him out and treating him differently, not necessarily meanly, can be just as bad as just flat out being racist (Of course, I don't mean KK or N word racist)

And Darky is a case of flat out racism. If you sing a child "Black sheep" They don't think of it as racist, and since that's the target audience where's the harm? It's not so much not offending black people so much as taking certain lengths too far.

God this is old news, the Primary School where my mum works has been using this version for years.

Quite funny as the school is in the middle of some fields that have herds of sheep in them, and yep you've guessed it, they sometimes have a few black sheep.

snip.
Google autocorrect isn't my only reference, I had a previous post with full sources, myabe you should find it?

I quoted you solely and you ignored it, presumably because I had provided about ten sources to prove my point whereas you have yet to cite a single credible source. I thought quoting everyone would

Where is your source? Where is this legislation? All government legislation is available to the public because of the Freedom of Information Act, so why can't I seem to search the government database and find this law? Why can I instead find dozens of stories about people getting suckered in by false claims? Not to mention a lot of credible sources, both from schools and government officials decrying it as sensationalist nonsense?

If you were to check my previous post, you'd find my sources, which I'd recommend reading in detail because they provide not only evidence of the latest upswings in this myth but also the history of it.

And hey, at least I finally got your attention, normally you'd need black skin and a criminal record to get the attention of the Conservatives.
