I think this is utterly ridiculous. I mean, They're gonna change it to Rainbow sheep according to a few sources.

THey changed Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree for using the word gay, and I could understand that. I didn't agree with it, but if a lot of children laugh at you as you sing the song it's understandable.

But seeing racism where there is none is a form of racism in it's self. They are meant to be treated as equals, and acting extremely...extremist...over stuff like this is more causing embarrassment than actual black rights (Which I'm all for).

It's the equivalent of seeing a black guy and saying BLACK. HE'S BLACK. BE NICE TO HIM BECAUSE HE'S BLACK, PEOPLE in my opinion...

So what's your thoughts on this, hmm?

Yes that means YOU, the guy with the glasses.

Yeah they did this about 5 years ago here (scotland)

So there are rainbow sheep? I fucking knew it!
I rarely use gay in the sense of homosexuals, I tend to use it to mean happy, and queer to mean strange or out of the ordinary. If this is true (which I doubt, these rumours spring up from time to time) then it is fucking retarded.

Annoying rumour is annoying.

Ps. if this is true, how long before they change the names of the Pacman ghosts, so it's no longer the loveable four, Inky, Pinky, Blinky and Clyde but Dave, Tony, Ivan, and Betsy. Pah.

So the first-hand accounts in this thread aren't true either?

Still, if you're right, fair enough. Sadly, the Huckleberry Finn story [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12126700] isn't fake, and if you ask me a lot worse than a silly little children's rhyme.

I did quite a few links, as did other people, on the previous page ;)

Also, I think we're on the wrong foot here, as I see this escalating to Flame war soon :/

Look, the case is it does happen in some places, the idea is gaining ground in others and while it isn't official yet there is a case of it seeping through public perception is the problem.

I don't wanna keep posting in my own thread like I am, it's making me feel slightly..okay VERY... narcissistic, so if you want to continue this you are welcome (And I'd very much enjoy it :D) To PM me about this, and the conclusion we come up with you or I will post, okay?
Can we agree on this?

I hate the 'N' word, but it's in context (not that it makes it correct)and it's a literary classic, it's one of the books that first got me so into reading, now I have more books than house!

FFS This is bollocks.

The Huckleberry Finn story is true yes, but even first hand accounts here were not due to government mandate, and were most likely not due to racism. The racism aspect of this comes from the first report back in 1987 (if memory serves) when two people wrote to their local council thinking it was racist. Since then the only people talking about racism have been the people who brought the story up as an anti-PC rant.

The truth is basically that if it is changed it is to allow for further learning of colours, adjectives, rhythms etc. Anyone citing personal experience is either misremembering, not fully aware of the realities of the situation and knowing where it is government mandate or school choice, or lying.

Black sheep is still used, as is white sheep. The most basic reason I found was a teacher who pointed out to the BBC that 'children see sheep with black wool, we are educators, why would we try and tell them something they can plainly see doesn't exist?'

I find it stupid.

I mean seriously, it's called a black sheep because it's got black wool. It's not racist. It's a universal physical trait of the species. People need to stop thinking that certain "politically incorrect" words apply to every single situation that includes the word, no matter the context in which it's in. Next you're going to tell me that they're going to change the names of every bird that has a race colour in it's name. Madness! Madness I say!

Say it ain't soohhhhohhhhhhhOHHHHHHHHHH!

Is it even worth pointing out that not including any source in your OP makes it worthless? It it even worth pointing out that variations of this claim pop up every few years, with different details? Is it even worth going to see True Grit? I mean, it didn't win any Oscars....

Honestly. Settle down m'boy.

Mr. Numbers says "2) It's not a lie, it's been made legislation by a few councils based on racism, maybe not in the situation you're thinking of" (soz, new to this, don't know how to do the quoty thingy).

Mr. Numbers is obviously not Mr Lawman, because councils don't pass legislation. Indeed, school curricula are set by the states. I don't know about the other states but there is certainly nothing in New South Wales' curriculum about Bah Bah Rainbow Sheep.

But maybe you mean it is in the draft federal curriculum. Oh dear, I've read that too and guess what? No rules about nursery rhymes.

That's right, you're talking about pre-schools. Which, as far as I know, set their own curriculums within very broad guidelines.

To be extremely generous, perhaps you are talking about legislation passed in other countries where councils do pass legislation. To which I say: quote them.

Was this ever true? I think I've been hearing this story for about a decade and not seen anything to validate it.

I doubt it. Although, it does strike me as the sort of thing one of those overly politilal-correctness-paranoia induced people we occasionally hear about would do. Maybe that's why the rumour lasted so long.

To all the people who have experience of it happening in schools.

Its because teachers will have heard the same rumours as you, get scared of being sued or fired (which they seem to do about a lot of things), and then teach the 'new' version so that doesn't happen.

The bit that isn't true is that it is government policy. It isn't, no government has put any of these changes in by law. Its the power of sensationalist media creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Sorry I got words muddled :p I was sorta just typing so fast to answer everyone who quoted me.

Okay, Preschools are banning it and councils tried to do it but got caught in some public outcry. Time to quote the BBC all you dubious source callers http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/education/600470.stm.
I sincerely apologize for my misinformation on this, and I will correct all mistatements presented to me, please proceed with the public whipping :C

And yet, Kookaburra use the original meaning of the word gay...

Here is a thought:

Let's try and teach the children in school something, instead of just changing whats not "correct"

Just a thought, it might be a bit radical though, might totally fail...

No its not. These stories are never true. It's just half-arsed attempts by lazy sensationalist media to elicit the very reaction you just gave. Usually with the aim of discrediting government groups setup to combat things like racism and other forms of bigotry and discrimination.

Like all that WAR ON CHRISTMAS bullshit that fox news comes out with every year, and every year it turns out to be overhyped or just plain fabricated.

Next time you read something that sounds incredibly stupid, stop a moment, check the sources yourself and you will usually find out that it is the reporting, or the reporters estimation of their target audience that is incredibly stupid.

Edit: 5 Secs on google...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loony_Left#Baa_Baa_White_Sheep
total fabrication.

I do believe that a lot of sources and personal accounts have now been thrown around, and I finally found my BBC reference again, though it was from 2000 it has resurfaced again in a few primary schools.] which is what I'm trying to say.

Look, from now on to anyone trying to just argue THIS SPECIFIC INCIDENT 2 rules:

Read the other posts and try not to focus on this individually but maybe think of something useful or a similar case of PC stuff to contribute.

I respect all opinions, but I'm getting fairly sick of quote notifications consisting entirely of THE MEDIA IS LYING TO YOU. Okay, sure, even the non-profit organisations.

7/10 for persistence.

The media is lying (or more accurately beating up these stories beyond all proportion) to you.

And on your two rules well,
I did read the posts.
And why would I bother bringing up other incident of so called PC stuff. I just told you that they all bogus. You bring some up. And I'll post you links debunking them too.

Your inability however to do do even to a little basic reading yourself to confirm that fact , well...

Actually, I'm pretty certain you're just trolling. But thanks it's been fun.

I first heard this when I was 5 (back then I actually believed it) - 13 years later and STILL nobody anywhere has changed it (unless it's a teacher that fears for their jobs after hearing rumours). Have you actually ever heard anyone sing it? Care to show me where in your country's laws it actually states this? Even if it WAS supposed to happen, if it's not been made law since the 80s (when the rumours first started I believe), it's NEVER GOING to be made law.

And yes, the media is lying to you. You really think the media tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, for the good of the people? They put up a sensationalist story, readers tell their friends who are all like "NO WAI!!1 LEMME SEE DAT!", hence the media outlet gets more viewers/readers/listeners/web traffic.

EDIT: Sorry, just realised you were a troll; now I look stupid for responding >.<

What about PC stuff that isn't BS

As there is a lot out there.

Everytime Top Gear gets sued, for example?

And I know the media exaggerates, but we do have a case of changing nursery rhymes in the cases of Kookaburra, Humpty Dumpty and for a few years now Black sheep (No laws being passed, just a sort of unofficial guilt sort of thing, which is all it takes).

I'm not saying laws on this are being passed guys, I'm just saying "Black" sheep is being phased out and it seems ridiculous to me.

Also I quoted the damned BBC what more do you people want ^_^? Bwahaha

Look, I don't care about you guys believing I'm a troll either just please PM me about it rather than clogging a thread supposed to be about BS PC going TF...PM me for anything else, please?

ACk my message got deleted :O

I was gonna say a few people in this thread has, and it's an unofficial sort of phase out. No law is being passed, but people are phasing it out regardless. There is no law that Humpty Dumpty should have a happy ending, but that's changing too. This thread isn't about the laws, though, guys, it's about the thought processes and sentiments behind them?
