Can you name some sequels that fall into the second?

How about Halo 2? At the start, it appeared that this game would be part of the former, with MC taking the fight to Earth, but it suddenly reverts to the second the moment you step foot back on a Halo. Halo 3? Even more so, since it is merely a continuation of 2 because they ran out of time and money to finish 2 the way it was meant to be.

The Empire Strikes Back is an example of a sequel that uses the first film to jump off from, and begins a whole new adventure. Whereas a film like Pirates 3: At Worlds End is simply a continuation of Dead Man's Chest, rather than a new story.

This is becoming a problem, as more and more games and films seem to be giving us the "TO BE CONTINUED" kind of ending, like they are expecting a sequel to be made. But the problem here is that they are merely continuing the story from the fist game or film, and not starting afresh. You are pretty much paying twice for the same story becaue they didn't finish it the first time round.

So, can anyone else name some bad sequels?

Bad sequels eh, in terms of films I'd have to say revenge of the fallen (I know I know, obvious choice). I actually liked the first transformers, mainly because it ended with no possibility of a sequel (The cube was destroyed and the major villain was buried AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN) but the second one was not only poor in quality but it reeked of a desperate sequel.

In terms of games...I got nothing, personally I've found game sequels to be better than their predecessors.

I'll be the first to come out and say that MW2 is a very, very literal example of that mantra.

Final Fantasy X-2

'nuff said.
I was wondering how long it would take to suggest X-2. In some weird kind of reasoning I actually didn't mind it!

The Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon games made by Activsion instead of Naughty Dog and Insomniac. Thank you, Activision for destroying my child hood. Thank god for the PS1 Classics section of the PSN.

Now, there is also the problem with sequels where, in an attempt to jump off from the original, a sequel goes so far off that it doesn't resemble the game it is supposed to be based on.

Far Cry 2 is an example of this, as well as being a bad game.

And every single Pokemon game looks the same to me, only with a few new monsters.

I didnt feel to much of a difference playing COD4vs.Cod5vsMW2, i mean the last stand vs nazi zombies vs knife throwing were a bit of a change, but outside of last stand didnt add too much, i mean MW2 feel superior and better than COD4, but when you look at it part to part, they are more or less the same game, also, i dont see the HUGE deal with a game being made purely for the expansion of the story or to make a new game, look at the original sonic games, they were identical to each other, outside of a new area or tails/knuckles being present (i refuse to think sonic games continued after the creation of the Dreamcast), and they were still fantastic, also think of the crash bandicoot games, same game, different/ semi-expanded stories (expanded in the sense of one episode of spongebob expanding on the other but you get what i mean) and each one was great (again i dont wanna consider the newer games, i guess anything past Wrath of Cortext, and even that one to an extent)

What an odd thing to say...

I thought that, storywise, it fit the description perfectly.
Never seen such a superfluous, stupid and downright hollow follow-up plot in my life.

And the story is still my main drive for playing a jRPG.

Besides that: graphics were a total rehash, music was lame (and the pop-culture injection made my ears bleed), the 'Charlie's Angels'-mission setup was just wrong and, well...

Gameplay was frickin' sweet.
A nice, fluent reincarnation of the job-system.
Truly a pity everything else sucked.

Anyway, each his own, i guess...

To be honest I really didn't like Fable 2. It always felt like something was missing, plus there were large load times and i got divorced every five minutes...

Bioshock 2. Such a pointless sequel.
Unsurprisingly, where I found the Yahtzee quote.
You best not be saying im a yahtzee fanboy that has no opinion of his own >.>

I got that game on day one of its release and it dissapointed me on day one of its release. Long time before yahtzee reviewed it thank you very much

Exactly! I thought it was a really bad game but I really enjoyed playing it! Sometimes I don't understand it and just accept it!
