Come to think of it, most of the voice acting in the Adventure games were hilariously bad. But they were still kickass games.

Final Fantasy XII. The characters would take overlong pauses to make grunts and sometimes stop for a full 2 seconds between sentences that express part of the same thought, it's just grating. Not to mention Vaan always sounds like he has a cold.

Asuka... meh.
Heihachi... I'll bite, that was pretty bad.
Kazuya and Jin... sound fine to me.
Xiaoyu... meh

Those are hardly the worst examples of dub to date. Anything by 4kids period is a good example. Though I almost universally watch dubbed.

One of my favorite examples? Dragonball Z. The Japanese VA who did Goku was the same one who played Goku as a child. The voice sounds bizarre. English dub is terrific (Thank the heavens for Scott McNeil and Chris Sabat)

Gundam Wing? Awful sub. Much better dub, but in fairness, no amount of voice acting was going to make Quatre likable.
I think it was less to do with their actual voices and more to do with the shock of them talking English, combined with their voices. If they'd always had English VAs I don't think I would have been as annoyed.

I'm gonna use a game as an example, but it can apply to anything so I thought to post it in off-topic. Anyway...

I was fiddling around on the settings on Street Fighter x Tekken and saw English language options for the Tekken characters that usually only speak Japanese. Nothing could prepare me for the horrors that awaited:

Asuka [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGdqAPxs6wg#t=0m0s]
Heihachi [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGdqAPxs6wg#t=1m8s]
Kazuya [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGdqAPxs6wg#t=1m35s]
Jin/Xiaoyu [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGdqAPxs6wg#t=2m35s]

Why?! Why have they done this?! They're awful! Dammit Capcom! D:
0_o I thought most of those were quite good or at least entertaining, but then again I don't have anything to compare them to.
Do you not play Tekken? I guess they're not too awful if you don't know what the Japanese voices are like. It was the shock of hearing them talk in English that made it worse for me.

Anyone playing the new Amalur game right now? The woman in the middle of the craft hall in Didenhill is all I can think of right now; she sounds like a female version of George Takei and its awfully funny.

FemShep never sounds right to me - she puts a slight macho-man twist on it and it sounds forced. She was much better as Bastila.

OT: I actually thought I was going to have this problem with Letho (The Witcher 2) when he started speaking, but after a couple of scenes I'd warmed up to it significantly.
Definitely agree on Letho. The dude speaks like a man with a disability, but his odd speech makes him freaking intimidating.
Yeah; it's almost deadpan, but there's something fairly unnerving in it too. I think it helps that he's built like a brick shit house and would seem a bit of an idiot, but actually he's highly intelligent.

4kids One Piece dub, every single one of them.

E.g. Nico Robin 4kids voice. She is a sophisticated type of gal given a fact that her pofession is archaeology. 4kids decided to give her a southen accent just because the first time we saw her, she was wearing a cowgirl just of clothing. No offence to the southern out there but the 4kids dub only make her sound like an mall girl and does not suit here at all!

Thank got Funimation save the show dubbing!
Yeah, I'm glad too. Is it still going, though? I haven't found any dubbed episodes after... 256?

OT: ALL of the voice acting in Just Cause 2. It was the first time in my life I had to stop and go "wait, what the fuck is this?" (I tend to steer clear of anime dubs I don't know are good, and I've been lucky with games)

I don't think Mark Meer (male shepherd) is that bad. His voice is a little monotone, but in a realistic sort of way. I actually know people who talk like that.

Well, since I enjoyed the game, Extermination, despite the horrible dialogue, then I...don't care.

I agree with @Ryu-Kage though... I prefer dubbed versions of things... I find it easier to follow something if I can read the words and hear the tone in which they are said! Nothing worse than a bright and cheery voice actor ruining a darker or more upsetting scene!
I shall indulge you sir with some light entertainment regarding Final Fantasy X-2, and it's atrocious voice acting.

It has bad voice acting but Resident Evil 1 is one of those cases where the bad voice acting is just hilarious.
Do you know what else is in the Resident Evil school of Talentless Voice Acting?

House of the Dead 2

So bad yet so funny, it was like they weren't even trying. I have even heard that the guys who did the VA's for that game weren't even English at all, but Japanese people making the VA, so the localisation would be cheaper. It sure as hell explains the emotionless sound that everybody has in that game.

Also Star Ocean the last hope, but not for all of the characters, oh no. My mind was not prepared for the ear rape that was Sarah, oh dear lord.

She sounded like one of those daytime presenters on cbeebies, with a throat infection. I think that's the best way to describe her VA, it's utterly atrocious, and nearly made me reach for the mute button everytime she spoke.

4Kids drop it and then the other (and better) company Funimation took over the rest of the episode and also repair the damage made by 4kids (while dubbing the rest of the episodes they redub it from the very start)-
Even if you're the type who view sub is superior compared to dub, clearly you can tell which dubs version is better.

The First Templar seems to have shit voice sync, even though I've only played the demo. You know when people mock anime dubs by saying their sentence and then continuing to mouth words? It was that, the models continued to speak after the character was done with their lines. I hope they've changed it since.

My favorite one is the "Oh no, our bullets are useless!" from the cops firing at chaos.

Dead mountaineer's hotel. The voice acting was so atrocious I couldn't get past the intro.

Oh god this, it's been a while but didn't they make Sanji sound like some sort of snobby Italian guy? Sweet merciful zombie christ that was annoying.
I'm gonna to agree here as well. The 4kids dub of One Piece was a cancer to the anime world felt the someone was hammering nails into my eyes, whilst cheese grating my ears. Also I couldn't understand a word Sanji was saying at all. All I could here was mumbling, so yeah Sanji from 4kids One Piece worst voice acting I've ever heard.

Also I was going to say Resident Evil but I found the acting in that funny rather than annoying.

Gentlemen.... Enchanted Arms, the Game. The Voice acting of that game, both english and Japanese is so horrid, it counts as weaponized sound.

I would link you a video as proof, but that would constitute attempted murder by some people. It's that bad. Seek out proof at your own risk.
