But yeah, she was one of my favourite characters. Her whole guardian complex thing was pretty cool. I loved how if when you get her to use the taunt ability one of her shouts is, "You come through me before anyone else!"
Other than her, I can't really think of any. There's Shale from DA:O who is kind of female, or used at least used to be.
It's not really a common thing. After all, it's a lot easier to imagine and depict a guy with the physical attributes of a tank character than a woman.

I can't think of any right now, but with some clever play you can use anyone as a tank. I used yuna as a tank in FFX by aeon swapping to absorb super boss attacks and stuff.

I scrolled through my entire Steam library to see if I can remember any tank-like characters from any of the games. Damn that was a samll percentage. What I got was:
Fallout: New Vegas - Veronica Santiago/Lily Bowen(technically female, super mutant)
Fallout 3 - Star Paladin Cross/Fawkes(technically female, super mutant)
The Last Remnant - Emma and Emmy Honeywell are primary story characters that focus on heavy armor and melee and defensive skills

I'm guessing we're throwing out RPG PCs and other 'make-your-own-protagonist' games? Well, apart from Aveline (who is awesome), there's the various housecarls and mercenaries from Skyrim? Most of them favor heavy armor, though not many of them get much in the way of character development.
Apart from that... Ashley from Mass Effect. Tali in the first game, maybe? She had the highest shields of any possible character. And we can't forget the shotgun. Jaheira from Baldur's Gate (well, she was tankier than most of my usual party). And I've never played them, but I think I've heard of tanky women in the Fire Emblem series.
