I suppose I'm relatively similar to what you were. Personally I'd call myself a Metalhead..but that entails what most people would call gothic behaviour, as in dressing in all black, listening to heavy music, etc. I also used to smoke pot an drink(I'm only about 15 now and that was 2 years ago). I'm pretty much just music obsessed...and socially unaccepted outside of my friend group.

I'm just saying that there are better ways to express yourself rather than whining about everything or being moody and dressing like Edward Scissorhands.
Which shows you clearly have not bothered to read the rest of the posts in this thread. With the exception of the Edward Scissorhands look, you clearly know nothing about what Goth's are, or what they are like.

In relation to Max, well I can't say I know him, but then again that's my point, nobody knows what anybody else on the net is really like.
Yeah, I am pretty deluded, aren't I? You got me there. However, after visiting some goth website, I can safely say they aren't a very happy bunch.

Have a look at their poetry:

http://www.goth.net/writings/wr-po-021.html#Feeling
http://www.goth.net/writings/wr-po-007.html#Inevitability
http://www.goth.net/writings/wr-po-007.html#Heart

Yeah...
My god you are right! How could I be so blind? A few Goth's post poetry on the web so therefore they must all be miserable! How could I not see this and the obvious logic!?

Wait a second. Some gamers like playing games that involve killing people, quick! We must stop them because they are quite obviously homicidal and are planning killing sprees as we speak!

Seriously, the elitism frothing forth from your post is most impressive.
Also, most goths don't actually consider the Cure to be Goth. And there are actually several easily recognizable sub-genres that exist in the sub culture. They are:

Death Rock
Goth Rock (circa 90s)
Goth Rock (Circa 80s) (They sound very different
Darkwave
Future pop
EBM
French Coldwave
Ethereal Goth
Neo-Classical.

I think you missed the point by a large margin. The Goth movement grew out of dissillusionment at the death of Punk in the early eighties and is essentially an expression of distaste with the inneffectual nature of anarchism as a method of protest for social change through the medium of hedonism. It's long since abandoned those roots but in the long run it's no more or less superficial than any "youth movement" that has ever existed.
Very well put.
You're just saying that because you're in love with Andy LePlegua :p

Oh I used to be Goth. Complete with spiked collars and bracers, eyeliner, the whole shebang. I found a diary, from a online commune I used to go to, in .txt the other day(the commune shut down, and everyone was emailed backups of whatever they had). Pretty interesting read. I was a whole other person back then, and I hadn't realized just how different I was, before reading that stuff.

dude those who were 'Goth' never really considered it goth, just people who were into the same shit, there were others who went over the top and thoses who didn't, no different from Punks emos, skater kids etc, half the 'grundge' kids I knew didn't lissen to anything but nivarna, none of the Punks had any agenda and wore the same shit contradicting the very nature of punk, Emo's are just plain pathetic newage-goth wannabes.
Dark clothing and make up, death/black metal and other alternitive music, an apprechetion for the arts and history, indevidualisation within the above mentioned were what calssified a goth back in the day (Gothic architecture and the love of the historic period is where the name comes from anyway)
Theres still a few Goths about but its more or less died out and given way to emo, which is bloody pathetic, at least goths didn't fuckin cry into their diaries and wear clothing so skinny it cut off blood cerculation.
Immortal, Emporer, Cradle of Filth, Dimmour Boguir etc were real goth bands btw

I know lots of goths. With only a few exceptions, a very narcissistic bunch. Goth is the only youth movement (well okay it used to be youth movement, some of them are pretty old now) that is 100% superficial. No statement, no purpose, just pure unadulterated "oh don't I look pretty dancing around to Skinny Puppy in my black clothing". I've flirted with the scene a little but the vapid superficiality at the core of it stops me getting deeply involved.
Same opinion as this really. But throwing emo's in there as well because they're like goth-lite, but so like totally emotional yah mega lulz oh look a bunny mega rofl lulz raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaandom. And yes that is an accurate representation.

At least Chavs are funny.

I think the goth look is cool so I dress the part, but I don't let it bring me down, as for "Scene". Girls can pull it off and look pretty hot doing it, guys look sickly and everyone wants to beat them up. But both of them always suck at being ironic.

Your goth card has been revoked, please hand in your ankh necklace and hairspray at the nearest dank hole in the ground masquerading as a nighclub.

It's wrong to lump emos in with goths. Emos may be whiny and annoying but they actually have some integrity and are generally nice to people outside their social circle (if you're nice to them, that is).

I was never much for cliques, I hung out with everyone. Throughout my school career, my grades were good, I played lots of sports, did stupid criminal shit (fairly serious stuff), and I still had time to get in touch with my inner nerd. I dropped the criminal aspect from my life after I graduated, that's about it.

To be honest I get the same reaction when I'm told about classic goth artists. Pete who? Roz? The only reason I remember Siouxie is because he name's in the damn band....
