The random folk of Beirut was an eye opener for me this year as well as the early ska of count oussie and the more roots based Ethiopians. Does anybody else appreciate the early days of the ska???? Decker, skatalites, dynomites, Upsetters anyone?

Most of the Jazz I listen to now I only got into this year. There was a time where I was bored of rock and moved to Jazz. So I found Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Marcus Miller, Charlie Parker.. So many

I also re-discovered Opeth this year. I heard about them years ago but wasn't really into that stuff back then but thanks to youtube and most of their albums being $10 at JB HIFI I now love them.

So in 2008 I found Miles Davis and Opeth - I should just stop looking for music, nothing will ever live up to this.

Beat me to it.

I have a verry interesting story actualy. I made a new friend and she is into prog. I was always into that stuff but i din't know many bands. She introduced me to Porcupine Tree who i now love and once her family friend who is about 15 years older found out he randomly contacted me through deviantart and sugested some great bands like Godspeed You! Black Emporer, Mogwai, Boards of Canada and the one i am most grateful for Amiina.

I also started using last.fm this year so i found some great bands including:
Bauhaus
The Glove
Just about every other side project of a member from The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees or Bauhaus
Flogging Molly
Sun 0)))
Crystal Castles
Nine Inch Nails (yes late i know)
Akira Yamaoka
Blues Control
E.S Posthumus
Lightning Bolt
and a bunch of random noise stuff.

Flobots, but that might've been late 2007. Either way they're awesome.

Cynic and The Ocean Collective. They were supporting Opeth in Manchester a couple of weeks ago so when I got the tickets I thought I'd check them out, turns out they both rule.

The Ting Tings, pop yes but they are pretty good
Ugh, I hate these guys. My g/f is a little obsessed and I ended up listening to this for about an hour before I realized what was making my head hurt.

I just discover Trivium a month or so back. I love them, not enough to go buy an album yet, but give it time.

Hadn't heard of Streetlight Manifesto until July. Amazing Ska band. Somewhere in the Between, may just be my favorite album ever.
