My mom likes this band called Nickleback. I just hate the singer's voice. but a lot of people really hate them. It's not like they're a bad influence on teenagers, have their own show on Disney or Nickelodeon, or like they slap their faces on everything from candy to skateboards.

Anything from around nowdays in generl

you have poeple come along with their nostalga filters turned up to 11 complaining about how awful everything is now today and how the 80's was the absolute greatest era in music

or...people who hate all kinds of pop and proudly proclaim in a very eleatist fashion how they love bands like metallica ACDC the beatles ect

and rap that gets alot of undeserved hate

Also, Eminem. Yeah, I know, he whines a lot, but in a lot of his stuff he can be very funny, and his lyrics can be very clever (please don't reply with a bunch of bad lyrics from him, you just look sad).

And N-Dubz.
N-Dubz are terrible, perfectly hatable also Eminem is one of the best rappers out there people who hate him just hate rap or they just hate him because he's a white rapper. And to all those people saying "Oh all hate is pointless because opinion is subjective fnar fnar"; it's meant to be a fun thread, not a psychology thesis.

I don't understand all the hatred Justin Bieber gets. I mean: hate the parents who didn't abort him. (Please excuse the very political incorrectness of this joke, moderators.)

Yep. I can't stand Nickleback. Terrible band. Nothing against you, of course. You can't help your taste in music, so there's really no point in persecuting you over it. We can still be polite, after all.

That said, I've never listened to Nickleback in my life, and can't say I want to.
This confuses me. You claim they're a terrible band yet you say you've never listened to them? Explain please.

I'd say that Nickelback is, at worst, mediocre, and people hate them just because they're immensely popular.

Eminem is quite talented but I can't stand listening to him in any more than extremely small doses because his vocal tone is so grating (nothing to do with being white either - there are other white rappers I really like a lot). Also a lot of his raps are frankly very emo. I can understand him not wanting to be a gangster cliche and that's fair enough but no need to go in the other direction and be a complete crybaby, his constant bleating about how supposedly hard-done-by is just gives me the shits. Gosh it must be tough with all his millions of dollars. Having said that I don't hate the guy, he's had some good songs in the past and all power to him and the people who like him, I just wish he'd harden up a little.

1) Slipknot; stupidest argument I've heard is, "they suck because they need 9 members to sound good," So they sound good but they suck because their different?
It's because they really are not that great (I find them merely alright, but that's not the point). And having nine members in your band and being out-done by a one-man project whose sole member is far younger than all of your members does not bode well for your band, really.
How haven't I heard of this band/guy before? I'm putting him on my itunes right now. Thanks for the referral

Metallica and Megadeth. They don't get nearly as much hate as most of the bands mentioned and they're both very popular and successful, but a ton of their fans hate each other just for preferring one above the other. I think it's because of the fighting done between Mustaine and the members of Metallica, but I'm pretty sure they've put that behind them now.

They're both really great bands, don't see why their fans continue to fight...

Is there really that much hostility? I know a few people who dislike Megadeth simply because they don't like Mustaine's somewhat glam-influenced vocal style, but I never met a Megadeth fan who didn't at least appreciate some period of Metallica, and most Metallica fans who like the old stuff like the songs that Mustaine wrote on "Kill 'Em All"...

People that absolutely hate bands beyond (artistic) dislike are retarded anyway.

I've scorned and ridiculed the hipster/emo/goth/metal crowd on multiple occasions, but I don't hate the music.

Nickelback, for all its generic blandness (although the first two albums were okay); Justin Bieber, for all its corporate cynicism, they are people making money. People buy their shit, and therefore there are people who like it.

You can't argue about taste, but you can argue about the merits of something popular. If people like what you do, you're doing something right.

But let me turn on my rosy-tinted glasses of nostalgia and days of yonder, and say that Nirvana gets a lot of flack. Certainly, it's not technical, but it was never ment to be judged on technical merits.

Lady Gaga gets a lot of hate, probably because of her revealing clothing, and bizarre fashion sense. She's not a bad singer, but she's an acquired taste to a lot of people. Personally, I don't really like her that much, but I don't hate her as a person, really. One of my friends saw her live, said it's the greatest thing she's ever seen. Personally, Muse live was the greatest thing ever.

This should be interesting.

My choice is going to have to be...Nickelback. They're the definition of generic rock, I'll grant you, but I still think the hate against them is borderline absurd. Plus, god save me, I do love "Into the Night" and "If Today Was Your Last Day"
The only Nickelback song I currently admit to liking is "Burn It To the Ground".

Miley Cyrus

Yeah sure her new look might be look a tad slutty. But she is freaking 17 she aint Hanna Montana anymore people should applaud her for going her own way. But instead she get flamed to hell because people are afraid that their kids will take the wrong idol.

It is the parents job to raise their kids if a teen idol matures a bit you shouldnt rage on her for doing so. You should just stop blaming her and do shit yourself.
Bro, I don't know anyone who hates Miley Cyrus because she's slutty. They just don't like her, period. And I assure you, she's not going "her own way". Any change she makes is a change designed to make more money. She is a product, a product that is owned by a company. They decide everything that she does for the best interest of their company. It has nothing to do with Miley being independent.

I'll go for Nickelback, I mean, they're not awful. just unbelievably boring and generic. And Chad Kroeger is an asshole. But I saw that video where he gets rocks thrown at him... not cool.

Um if a band is "unbelievably boring and generic", than I would indeed describe them as awful. And Nickelback is indeed awful.

I used to like Eminem, but all his new stuff is complete garbage and all the people that used to think he was weird love him now. He's doing songs with the kind of people he used to make fun of. And why would bringing up Eminem's bad lyrics make me look sad? That would provide a completely valid counterargument in your saying he's clever. That's like if I said the Hindenburg was a flawless, amazing aircraft (please don't reply with "It blew the fuck up", you just look sad).

Maybe its because I live in England and he hasn't caught on over here in the same way, but I had no idea who Justin Bieber was until I started seeing people on the interenet complain about him. I've listened to one of his songs once (I felt I should check out the most viewed video on YouTube).
People get very worked up about something that is both trivial and that they don't need to subject themselves to.

See also: Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers etc.

The Birthday Massacre and TOOL.

I hate how those bands get so much hate >.> TBM because people think they're about suicide and TOOL because they talk about atheism.
