Probably Green Day because everyone hates them just because little 10 year olds like them.
I think their song writing is poor, i dont hate on them.

But i dont like them, and i dont want them played outloud.

Either Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, or Panic! At The Disco.

I can understand people not liking the band members but they do make decent music.
Nope.

Cannibal Corpse. If you knew the band members, you'd know they're really good guys. If you read their lyrics, you'd understand that they're all just make believe, and not some sadistic fantasy or message for youth to kill people. Their music is brutal and intense, and maybe that's not your cup of tea, that's fine, but I know most people who dislike them have not even let a single song finish before hitting pause. I'm cool if you don't like their music but I think it's unfair to not like it because of their image and genre, dislike them for the music itself.
They represent the stereotype of Death Metal to be honest...

well being 1 of the handful of metal heads stuck in a town of country hicks I hear a lot of crap about bands I like.

1) Slipknot; stupidest argument I've heard is, "they suck because they need 9 members to sound good," So they sound good but they suck because their different?

2) Any metal/hard rock band with a girl singer; because apparently everyone thinks only guys can sing for heavy bands and girls have to be in kitchens making sammiches.

3) Metallica; I always hear, "they suck because they sold out and changed their sound," and I think that just makes you sound stupid. Sure, I don't think their music is as good nowadays either, but if they kept putting Enter Sandman and Sad But True clones every CD then they would just get boring.
They totally sold out on Black Album, although i think they did pretty bad on Master of Puppets aswell, not as bad though.

Slipknot makes conventional verse chorus music, and is constantly hailed as the greatest metal band of the 00s, and got metal awards all the time... . what the fuck?
There's absolutely nothing, and I mean fucking nothing, wrong with making verse chorus music. Because it sounds nice. Innovation is a good thing, but so is polish, and rare is a band that does both.

Not saying that Slipknot is good, and I'm not even saying they're metal. I'm just saying calling music "generic" is utterly pointless.

OT: I don't like people hating on Enter Shikari for their change in musical style. They are still great to listen to. Sure they've gotten really political and dance-driven, but they remain as fun as ever.
Also, Between the Buried and Me. They seem to get hate from a lot of prog metal fans that call them talentless. This is kind of stemming from me having prog elitists shoot them down right to my face, because they are blinded by Dream Theater, and anything not as good to them is shit...

What polish is there to slipknots music, oh ok Verse-Chorus with detuned guitars oh wow? Oh and many bands have tried diffrent structures, and they sound polished enough to me.

The problem with most verse-chorus songwriting, is that its pretty much easy to know whats gonna happen next, its kinda boring and repetative, listening to same song over and over, since its all written verse-chorus.
I've never listened to Slipknot, that's not what I'm arguing. What I'm saying is that not every band needs to innovate, for one thing because you don't need to listen to it. For another, song structure should only be messed with if you have a good idea on how to change it.

It's one of the most basic aspects of music, and sometimes it needs a little shaking up. Most times, it's best to leave it alone.

Linkin Park as a fan the amount of shit I get personally and the amount of people who insult them for no reason is baffling.

It doesnt have to be super innovative... But when its so predictable, im technically listening to the same song over and over. Im asking for some variation.

Its not best to leave it alone, id prefer bands mess around with it.

Many Death Metal bands avoid writing conventional verse-chorus songs. I could name so many good Death Metal bands that do something. Then there is a whole fucking genre dedicated to avoid conventional structure, Progressive Metal and Progressive Rock,, then there is Post Rock, also quite anti conventional then there is Jazz music, particularly Free Jazz, particularly Free Jazz, improvisation based, quite a few Black Metal bands avoid conventionality within their structure too, oh and i forgot mention Classical Music.

It seems like there are many capable musicians, and genres dedicated to breaking conventional song-writing, or atleast innovating a little bit, there are musicians from every genre who innovate.

But the biggest problem with slipknot, is they innovated NOTHING, and get praise for it!?!?!
You don't have to innovate to make music that people enjoy listening to.

Metallica and Megadeth. They don't get nearly as much hate as most of the bands mentioned and they're both very popular and successful, but a ton of their fans hate each other just for preferring one above the other. I think it's because of the fighting done between Mustaine and the members of Metallica, but I'm pretty sure they've put that behind them now.

They're both really great bands, don't see why their fans continue to fight...
Is there really that much hostility? I know a few people who dislike Megadeth simply because they don't like Mustaine's somewhat glam-influenced vocal style, but I never met a Megadeth fan who didn't at least appreciate some period of Metallica, and most Metallica fans who like the old stuff like the songs that Mustaine wrote on "Kill 'Em All"...
Well there's a lot of truth in what you're saying, most of my friends who like Metallica don't hate Mustaine or Megadeth. Most of the hostility I've seen has been on YouTube and the internet; where the general mindset is if somebody disagrees with your opinion, they must be a moron.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if people actually viewed this way however.

Their a very bland band. :D
The only reason I mentioned it is because I seem to get a lot of hate for still being a fan after their new album came out. It's like I'm not allowed to like a band after they deviated from their original style.

This should be interesting.

My choice is going to have to be...Nickelback. They're the definition of generic rock, I'll grant you, but I still think the hate against them is borderline absurd. Plus, god save me, I do love "Into the Night" and "If Today Was Your Last Day"
This one...

"Someday" wasn't a bad song, to be fair!

What leads you to believe I am an angry person? And I guess we see things differently. Do you enjoy unbelievably boring and generic music? And to me, that would provide a counterargument about Eminem, but like I said, I used to enjoy him so it is pointless to argue over this.

Lady Gaga. Yeah I said it!

What's so bad about her? She's actually not that bad as an artist, the songs are pretty catchy and fun to dance to even if you wont admit it. Plus when did you ever see Britney Spears at a political rally fighting for equal rights for gay people in the army?

Tell them that you like the Scissor Sisters (I do) :p

Anyway, I would go for The Killers. Lots of people think they're throwaway pop trash due to Human, when in reality, they are so much more.
Dude, I f*cking love The Killers.

OT: I'd say Nickelback receives the most pointless hate. Even from people that haven't heard their music.
