Batman: Awesome or A Joke

I agree with Yathzee, Batman is boring.

And by boring do you mean the Arkham Asylum review where he said, "Like everyone on the internet, I LOVE BATMAN."

Just wanted to clear that bit of nonsense up.

Yes, and if you took the time to read this, I also mentioned I love batman as well. But there is a certain hatred of him. As others have stated in this very thread, the fact that batman always wins, always has what he needs, and can always get people to do what he needs them to do really grinds my gears.

Mehhhh, I see where you're coming from but it doesn't bother me nearly as much as heroes like Supes who start off as being nearly invincible so that the writers have to say "Oh shit, he needs a weakness... How about we make radiated pieces of his planet weaken him, and give them to everyone and their mother." Shit by now so much kryptonite has passed through the comics that they could probably build a few new Kryptons with it.

And that, is bad writing. Not just bad, some of the worst. And also why Superman will always be my least favorite superhero, tied with GL; cause again who can fight will power? "Oh shit, we did it again! How about we make him weak to yellow and wood?" They retconned it pretty well with paralax but it still is a bad concept for a hero to start off being invincible and make up weaknesses on the fly.

That's why I like Batman so much, being human you know what you're getting into, he can't take the punishment Supes can, so you know that every battle isn't a toe-to-toe brawl. He has to be smarter, and quicker to win; rather than relying on him being an alien and making sure no one throws a magic rock at him.

I don't like Superman either. I just straight up don't like him.

Batman can beat Superman in a fight. kryptonite. Batman can singlehandedly take down one of the most powerful things in his universe by himself. yeah, he kicks ass. yeah, his rogue's gallery is 75% "guy in costume with gun", but it's their personalities that set them apart. take the Joker and Two Face. both are just guys in colorful suits with guns and henchmen. but they're still NOTHING alike.

I think Batman is overrated. Yes he is prepared to take down any other superhero but that doesn't mean hes the only one. Green Lantern, for example, has the entire Corp backing him up including the Guardians. One of them would be able to figure out how to beat Superman. Hell, Sodam Yat, the current Ion, has most of the same powers as Superman plus a ring.

Except that Sodam Yat got pretty much schooled when he went up against Superboy/man-Prime in the Sinestro Corps War, as well as how Superboy-Prime took out multiple GL's in Infinite Crisis (although the "Thin Green Line" was pretty awesome). A rogue Superman with immunity to Kryptonite is one the universe ought to fear.

As for Batman, he's pretty cool. Sure, most of the time he can act like he's a clairvoyant, especially with the whole Final Crisis scenario, but he's just a man - see how he operates in the JLA as an example of how he fits.

Yea, that was because of his weakness to lead (Daxomites = lead, Krptonians = Kryptonite). I'm not really tryin to say Sodam Yat is tops, just that he has the potential to win if it came to a free for all. Batman could win, Green Lantern (I consider the entire Corp to be one hero in this case), Superman, etc all have the possibility of winning. Batman is just the one that we know has everything to do it. I suppose we could say Hal has everything for it since he did it as Paralax but that gets into some fuzzy areas.

I can see where a lot of people are coming from, but a lot of it is due to bad writers, not a bad character. When he's well-written he can actually be very interesting. The deus ex machina is mainly a relic of the Adam West days, where the character was treated as something of a joke. Good writers do not just have him pull out the perfect gadget for every situation. He also has some personal failings which make him more interesting.
I actually don't care much for Superman either, at least for the most part. There are some very good stories about him, but he's inherently a fairly boring character. I do enjoy stories with him and Batman, as they play off of each other very well.

There is a recent movie where he threatens Darkseid after hes cracked the ordinance codes and rigged the entire planet to blow and Superman is just standing there punching shit. Two guesses who he caves to...

Brain power is a truly awesome superpower, just ask Agatha Heterodyne. There is a reason why he works so well with Superman. They are practically unbeatable together.

(The whole wearing you undies outside your pants thing can be mostly excused when the rest of the awesome is involved)

If you want to go by that, Wonder Woman chooses Supes in at least one other work.

He's pretty goddamn awesome; if your friend has a problem, direct him to the GODDAMN JUSTICE LEAGUE. Batman is one of the best, alongside Superman and Wonder Woman. So yeah. He's awesome; also, don't put down the Batman villains. The Joker very nearly killed Superman (World's Finest), and Poison Ivy took control of his mind (Hush Story Arc).

Scarecrow once drugged Superman. Superman saw what the world would looks like if it's surface was covered in kyrptonite... its was awesome.

OT: Batman is awesome. Read the batman and superman crossovers. Batman is the only person awesome enough that superman will go to for help (well not only, but the only one I've seen a cross over dedicated to). The one I just read involved Batman and Superman ridding the world of kryptonite.

Also, seriously it took a damn-near god to kill him. And even he only had the guts to send him back in time.

EDIT: Batman once took out Superman, Batman's first move (first, note the word first) was to block out the sun and it just got better from then.
